Mother: Nelly Schaap Fuchs
Brother: John Arthur Hoogstraten
Sister: Louise Beatrice Hoogstraten
Husband: Paul Leslie Snider (m. 1-Jun-1979, d. 14-Aug-1980, suicide)
Boyfriend: Peter Bogdanovich (1980)
Stratten was born in a Salvation Army hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia, to Simon and Nelly Hoogstraten, Dutch immigrants. Her parents had married in Holland in 1954. In 1961 her brother John Arthur was born, and sister Louise Beatrice was born in May 1968.
She grew up and attended Centennial High School in Coquitlam. In 1977, while working part-time in a local Dairy Queen, she met a Vancouver-area promoter named Paul Snider (then 26), who coaxed her into sending photos to Playboy. Stratten forged her mother's signature on the model release form.
In 1979, after changing her surname to Stratten, she became Playboy's Miss August. She also found work as a Bunny at the Los Angeles Playboy Club. In 1980, she became Playboy's Playmate of the Year. Her original pictorial was photographed by Mario Casilli.
In June, 1979, she married Snider in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple's relationship quickly deteriorated, as Snider became prone to fits of jealousy and bizarre, controlling behavior; he constantly took credit for Stratten's fame, stating that he was the reason for her success, and repeatedly attempted to usurp her fame when in the presence of celebrities.
Hugh Hefner reportedly encouraged Stratten to sever ties with Snider, calling him a "hustler and a pimp." Rosanne Katon and other friends warned Stratten about Snider's behavior. By August of 1980, Snider's personality had turned obsessive. He hired a private detective to follow Stratten and report back to him everything she did. Stratten meanwhile developed a relationship with director Peter Bogdanovich, with whom she began having an affair. Snider and Stratten separated and Stratten moved in with Bogdanovich. Stratten had also made plans to file for divorce from Snider.
Murder
On August 14, 1980, Snider and Stratten met at Snider's duplex, in which the couple had once lived along with their friend, Dr. Stephen Cushner. Cushner still lived in the home with his girlfriend and his girlfriend's best friend, but Cushner and the women were all out for the day when Stratten showed up at the home. What exactly transpired is unknown; at noon, Snider's private investigator called the apartment. He was aware that Stratten and Snider were meeting, and wanted to make sure that everything was going smoothly. Snider told the detective "Everything is going fine" and hung up.
At 5:00 p.m., Cushner's girlfriend and her friend arrived home to find Stratten's car in the driveway. The door to Snider's room was closed and Stratten was nowhere to be seen; the women assumed that the two were in the bedroom and wanted privacy. They stayed until 6:00 p.m. to watch the news, then left at 6:30.
At 7:00 p.m., Cushner arrived home and found Stratten's car in the driveway. He assumed that Snider and Stratten wanted privacy. One hour later, at 8:00 p.m., Cushner's girlfriend and her friend arrived back home from dinner. At 11:00 p.m., the private investigator called Cushner. According to the investigator, Snider had given him instructions to periodically check in over the course of the day, but Snider hadn't answered his private line for some time. The investigator told Cushner that he believed something was wrong and that someone needed to check on Snider and Stratten.
Shortly after 11:00 p.m., Cushner broke into Snider's room. There he discovered Snider and Stratten both dead by gunshot.
Dorothy Stratten is buried at Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California.

Stratten's tragic story was portrayed in Bob Fosse's 1983 film Star 80 starring Mariel Hemingway (Stratten) and Eric Roberts (Snider).
Peter Bogdanovich wrote a book about her titled The Killing of the Unicorn. He later married her sister, Louise. They divorced in 2001.

Nicole Linkletter is an American fashion model, winner of Cycle 5 of the reality TV series America's Next Top Model. Her prizes as winner were a contract with Ford Models, a $100,000 contract with CoverGirl cosmetics, a fashion spread in Elle magazine , and the cover of Elle Girl magazine.. She is the only winner not to have a guest appearance on ANTM since her win.
Biography
Linkletter graduated from Grand Forks Red River High School in 2003, and attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota as a marketing major; she is currently attending California State University Northridge. She had previously worked at Victoria's Secret and Old Navy stores.
America's Next Top Model
Linkletter appeared in Cycle 5 of the show after auditioning for the show at the Mall of America. During the finale fashion runway show for Gharani Strok, Linkletter's strong runway walk demonstrated how much she had improved throughout the competition. In the final judging, the judges selected Linkletter over the runner-up Nik Pace due to her portfolio, model attitude, diversity, and fierce catwalk. Nicole's win made her the youngest winner in the history of the show at the age of 19 years and 9 months.
Tyra said of Linkletter, "...she has the model 'thing' more than any of our other winners – the body type, the face type and the attitude,...... She reminds me of the girls I modeled with when I was in Europe when I was 17 years old." Fellow judges Twiggy and Nigel Barker likened Linkletter's look to that of an "English rose". Although she had some of the best photos of the whole competition, she often did not receive as much recognition as some of the other contestants because of her seemingly "sour" facade and not breaking from pretty to beautiful in her photos.
“ I was always the girl who, like, never really got that much attention. And now here I am — I'm a CoverGirl and I'm a Ford model... my life is beginning right now — Nicole's life as a CoverGirl! ”
Career
In August 2006, Linkletter left her original agency Ford Models (NY division), and signed with Elite Model Management, LA division. Later, Linkletter left Elite Model Management and signed to Nous Model Management in L.A. Born: February 27, 1983
Location: Bedford, New York, U.S.
Kate Mara is an American television and film actress. Beginning acting in her hometown of Bedford, New York, she moved from the stage to her first film, Random Hearts (1999). Notable roles include appearances in Academy Award-winning Brokeback Mountain and on Fox television series 24. Included on the New York Daily News list of "10 young actors who have a shot at making it big" at the start of 2006, she has since appeared in the feature films We Are Marshall (2006) and Shooter (2007). She will next be seen with Justin Timberlake in The Open Road (2009).
Biography
Early life
Mara was born and raised in Bedford, New York, the daughter of Chris Mara, a scout for the New York Giants, and Kathleen (née Rooney). She is Irish-Italian-American, her family name used to be O'Mara. She has one older brother, Daniel, and two younger siblings, Patricia and Conor. Mara wanted to be an actress since seeing Les Misérables at a young age; she said she "fell in love with Broadway and musicals", and grew up watching movie musicals on television and going to Broadway shows with her mother. She was especially a fan of Judy Garland's films. She began acting at the age of nine, appearing in a school musical. Mara attended several youth theater-arts schools and appeared in community theater and in school plays. Mara described herself as "painfully shy" while growing up to Esquire magazine, and said she only had one friend.
Beginning at a young age, Mara continually asked her mother to help her get an agent. Mara's mother got the name and address of a management company, sent in a photograph, and Mara signed with her first agent, beginning her professional career at the age of 14. Mara's first audition was for the television drama Homicide: Life on the Street. She didn't get the role, but knew that she just wanted to act from then on. Mara was accepted into the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University to study musical theater and graduated from Fox Lane High School early by a year. Mara felt pressure from her parents to go to college, but was already getting work as an actress, so she deferred for three or four years before deciding not to go. Mara moved to Manhattan in order to act full time.
Television and stage roles
Mara's first television role was in the drama Law & Order in 1997. She went on to guest star on numerous television series including, Madigan Men, Ed, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Recurring parts followed in 2003 on the series Everwood, as Kate, an 18-year-old who is impregnated by her piano teacher and then gets an abortion, and on Nip/Tuck as Vanessa, a bisexual cheerleader involved in a love triangle with boyfriend Matt McNamara and another cheerleader, played by Sophia Bush. Mara also appeared on Cold Case, Boston Public, CSI: Miami, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in 2003. Mara was cast as the lead in Prodigy in 2004, a television series on the WB Television Network about a teenage child prodigy played by Mara. The series only produced a pilot episode. Mara appeared in a large recurring role on the WB series Jack & Bobby in 2005 and a 5 episode arc on Fox television series 24 in 2006, playing computer analyst Shari Rothenberg.
Mara debuted theatrically in 2003 at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in John Guare’s Landscape of the Body with Lili Taylor. Doing more theater work for Mara is a "dream" because it was "all I really wanted to do as a kid. I didn't care about movies or tv, I just wanted to do Broadway", she told WFAN radio in 2006. Mara starred in The Alice Complex, a play by Peter Barr Nickowitz, at Dixon Place in New York City in 2005 and at the Blank Theatre in Los Angeles in 2006. The production co-starred Tony Award-winner Harriet Harris.
Film career
Mara's film debut was in Random Hearts with Harrison Ford in 1999, directed by Sydney Pollack. She played Jessica Chandler, the daughter of a congresswoman. She next appeared in the Sundance Film Festival award-winning films Joe the King (1999) and Tadpole (2002), alongside Sigourney Weaver. Mara co-starred in Peoples (2004), a drama and coming of age story filmed in Louisville, Kentucky. She starred in the direct-to-video horror film Urban Legends: Bloody Mary, and appeared with Noah Wyle and Illeana Douglas in The Californians in 2005. However, it was her supporting role in the Academy Award-winning Brokeback Mountain (2005) that brought her more widespread attention.
At the beginning of 2006, Mara signed with the William Morris Agency. That year, she appeared in Zoom with Tim Allen and Courteney Cox and in We Are Marshall, starring Matthew McConaughey. We Are Marshall recalled the aftermath of the 1970 Marshall University plane crash that took the lives of most of the football team, with Mara playing fictional cheerleader Annie Cantrell. It was a script that Mara responded to emotionally because of her football background.
In 2007, Mara appeared in the comedy Full of It with Ryan Pinkston for New Line Cinema. The film later aired on television as Big Liar on Campus. Mara was also featured in an advertising campaign for clothing retailer Gap called, "khakis with attitude." She appeared in Shooter, a thriller about a master sniper lured out of retirement to prevent an assassination, based on the novel Point of Impact. Mara played Kentucky widow Sarah Fenn, the love interest of Mark Wahlberg's character's partner, and then Wahlberg's character himself. She adopted a southern dialect for the role. Director Antoine Fuqua immediately felt Mara was right for the part when she auditioned.
Also in 2007, Mara finished the film Transsiberian by Brad Anderson, the director of The Machinist (2004). Transsiberian takes place on the Trans-Siberian Railway that runs from China to Moscow. The cast includes Woody Harrelson, Ben Kingsley, Eduardo Noriega, and Emily Mortimer. Mara spent three months shooting the thriller in Vilnius, Lithuania, starting in December 2006. The film also shot on location in Beijing and Russia. Mara plays Abby, a 20-year-old runaway from Seattle, Washington, a character she described to MoviesOnline as "dark", "mysterious", "sort of goth", and doesn't talk much. Transsiberian premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival in January 2008 and was released in theaters on July 18, 2008.
In 2008, Mara starred in Stone of Destiny, written and directed by Charles Martin Smith, a film about the theft of the Stone of Scone on Christmas Day, 1950. Mara plays Kay Matheson, one of four students that removed the stone in a Scottish nationalist plot. The period "adventure-comedy" co-stars Billy Boyd, Robert Carlyle and Charlie Cox. Filming began in June 2007 in locations around Glasgow, including Film City studio and Arbroath Abbey. Mara employed a Scottish accent for the role, which she described to the Daily Mail as "incredibly difficult to master", and stayed near the Botanic Gardens in the city's West End while filming. Mara attended the film's world premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, Scotland on June 21, 2008. The film closed the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival on September 13, 2008, and was released on October 10, 2008 in the UK.
Mara will star in The Open Road alongside Jeff Bridges, Justin Timberlake, and Mary Steenburgen. Filming began in Hammond, Louisiana in February 2008, continuing in Memphis, Tennessee and elsewhere in the southern United States. She will star as Sophie Conway in Flying Lessons, a film produced by 20th Century Fox.
NFL football ties
Mara's family owns the New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers; she is the great-granddaughter of Giants founder Tim Mara, the granddaughter of late Giants owner Wellington Mara on her father's side, as well as the great-granddaughter of Steelers founder Art Rooney on her mother's side. Mara's uncle is John Mara, the president and CEO of the Giants, and her father is the vice president of player evaluation. Mara attended almost every Giants home game while growing up. On Sundays, after attending church, her family would head directly to the games. When asked by Vanity Fair magazine who she roots for when the Giants play the Steelers she replied, "that question is not allowed. I can't answer." Mara missed the Steelers' winning Super Bowl in 2006 because she was working in Los Angeles. Mara was so disappointed, she added to her contract that if the Giants or Steelers go to the Super Bowl, she can attend. She attended almost every game of the 2007 Giants season, leading up to the team's win in Super Bowl XLII.
Mara's favorite Giants game was when she was asked to sing the national anthem in honor of her grandfather, Wellington Mara, who died in October 2005. Mara has regularly sung at home games and season openers of the Giants since about the age of 15 or 16 when her uncle asked her to fill in when they couldn't find a singer. She has also sung at a couple of Steelers games. She sang the national anthem at the 2006 NFL season opener, dubbed the "Manning Bowl," where the Giants played the Indianapolis Colts. Mara's singing was featured in the film The Californians.
Personal life
Mara has stated that she comes from a "huge" family. Her father was one of 11 children. She has 22 aunts and uncles and 40 cousins. She lives in Los Angeles, having resided there on and off since around 2003. Her younger sister, Patricia, is living with her temporarily since relocating to Los Angeles in 2007. Mara travels back to New York when her schedule allows and has stated, "If I could live in New York, I would", specifying that she likes "the cold... the rain" and "miss[es] it"; she also stated that she likes "not needing plans" in New York. Mara tries to spend the football season in New York when she can. As of 2007, her boyfriend was producer and director Joseph McGinty Nichol, whom she worked with on We Are Marshall. As of July 2008, she was linked to Stone of Destiny co-star Charlie Cox.

Occupation: Singer
Kimberly Ann Caldwell (born February 25, 1982 in Katy, Texas) is an American singer best known for being a contestant on the second season of American Idol, where she finished in seventh place. She currently works as an entertainment correspondent and hosts various shows on the TV Guide Network, and is presently writing and recording songs for her debut album.
Caldwell first sang publicly at age five in beauty pageants. She was a five-time junior vocalist winner on Star Search, and she also performed at the Grand Ole Opry. In 1995, she sang at the 50th wedding anniversary of former President George H. W. Bush and Barbara Bush. Caldwell also appeared on the second and final season of Popstars: USA, where she was rejected from the group and told she would do better as a solo vocalist.
Following her run on the second season of American Idol, Caldwell started working as a correspondent for the entertainment/extreme sports program "54321" on FOX Sports Network. She covered various events and movie premieres for the show before joining her fellow Season 2 Idol finalists on the road for the American Idols LIVE! tour, which played in 44 cities across the United States.
Recent Projects
In 2008 Caldwell released two singles, "Fear of Flying" and "Gave Yourself Away," both available for download on iTunes. She also began filming an as-yet-untitled miniseries with John Schneider, as well as hosting a television game show (created by Mark Burnett) called Jingles.
Caldwell will be the host of a new MTV show called P. Diddy's Starmaker, set to premiere in January 2009 on MTV. Both male and female aspiring solo artists will compete against each other through weekly performances, and have the added challenge of living together. The show is produced by Mark Burnett and Sean "P. Diddy" Combs.

During a radio interview with XL 106.7 on October 13, 2008, Cook confirmed that he and Kimberly were "still seeing each other." In a November 2008 interview with PEOPLE magazine, Cook said his relationship with Caldwell was a "nice break from the chaos" of post-Idol fame. David debunked rumors of an engagement to Kimberly in a radio interview on December 12, 2008, saying "I've never even been to Tiffany's" (per Star magazine's reports that Cook had gone into the store and purchased a $54,000, 2-carat diamond ring). Rumors of a breakup surfaced on Vote for the Worst.com in early 2009, and when asked about it during an interview with Q102 in Philadelphia on January 8, 2009, Cook replied "No, man, there's nothing to talk about." Rumors of Caldwell cheating on Cook were reported by Star magazine; Caldwell responded with a MySpace bulletin saying, "Just to set the record straight, as usual, the tabloids got it wrong again. Completely fabricated!"
On January 12th, rumors of the break up were confirmed by a rep of Kimberly Caldwell's who stated in In Touch Weekly:"Kimberly and David ended their relationship just before the holidays. The couple remain good friends and being very private people, appreciate their privacy at this time."

AKA Hannah Dakota Fanning
Born: 23-Feb-1994
Birthplace: Conyers, GA
Gender: Female
Race or Ethnicity: White
Occupation: Actor
Nationality: United States
Executive summary: Uptown Girls
Father: Steve Fanning (minor league baseball player, electrician)
Mother: Joy Fanning
Sister: Elle Fanning (actress, b. 9-Apr-1998)
Hannah Dakota Fanning, better known simply as Dakota Fanning, is an American actress. Fanning's breakthrough performance was in I Am Sam in 2001. As a child actress, she developed her craft in such high-profile films as Man on Fire, War of the Worlds, and Charlotte's Web. Fanning began transitioning to more adult roles with Hounddog and The Secret Life of Bees. She has won numerous awards, and is currently the youngest person ever to have been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Personal life
Dakota Fanning was born in Conyers, Georgia, the daughter of Joy (née Arrington), who played tennis professionally, and Steve Fanning, who played minor league baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals and now works as an electronics salesman in Los Angeles. Her maternal grandfather is football player Rick Arrington and her aunt is ESPN reporter Jill Arrington. Dakota is the older sister of Elle Fanning, also an actress.
Fanning's father had wanted to name her "Dakota" and her mother wanted to name her "Hannah".
Fanning is of half German descent and her last name is of Irish origin. Fanning and her family are members of the Southern Baptist Convention. Fanning attends Campbell Hall School in North Hollywood, California and is on the varsity cheerleading squad.
Acting career
Early years
Dakota began acting at the age of five after appearing on a Tide commercial. Her first significant acting job was a guest-starring role in the NBC prime-time drama, ER, which remains one of her favorite roles ("I played a car accident victim who has leukemia. I got to wear a neck brace and nose tubes for the two days I worked.")
Fanning subsequently had several guest roles on established television series, including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Practice, Spin City. She also portrayed the title characters of Ally McBeal and The Ellen Show as young girls. In 2001, Fanning was chosen to star opposite Sean Penn in I Am Sam, the story of a mentally retarded man who fights for the custody of his daughter (played by Fanning).
This role made Fanning the youngest person (in 2002, at age eight) ever to be nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award, for her supporting performance. When she won the Best Young Actor/Actress award from the Broadcast Film Critics Association for the film, she was too short to reach the microphone; presenter Orlando Bloom held her up for the duration of her acceptance speech.
2002–2003
In 2002, director Steven Spielberg cast Fanning in the lead child role of Allison "Allie" Clarke/Keys in the science fiction miniseries Taken. By this time, she had received positive notices by several film critics, including Tom Shales of The Washington Post, who wrote that Fanning "has the perfect sort of otherworldly look about her, an enchanting young actress called upon ... to carry a great weight."
In the same year, Fanning appeared in three films; as a kidnap victim who proves to be more than her abductors bargained for in Trapped; as the young version of Reese Witherspoon's character in Sweet Home Alabama, and as Katie in the movie Hansel and Gretel.
Fanning was featured even more prominently in two films released in 2003; playing the uptight child to an immature nanny played by Brittany Murphy in Uptown Girls, and as Sally in The Cat in the Hat.
Fanning did voice-over work for four animated projects during this period; as Satsuki in Disney's English language release of My Neighbor Totoro, as Kim Possible in preschool in the Disney Channel series Kim Possible, as a little girl in the Fox series Family Guy, and as young Wonder Woman in an episode of Cartoon Network's Justice League.
2004–2005
In 2004, Fanning appeared in Man on Fire as Pita, a nine-year-old who wins over the heart of a retired mercenary (Denzel Washington) hired to protect her from kidnappers. Roger Ebert wrote that Fanning "is a pro at only 10 years old, and creates a heart-winning character."
Hide and Seek, was her first release in 2005, opposite Robert De Niro. The film was generally panned, and critic Chuck Wilson called it "a fascinating meeting of equals — if the child star [Fanning] challenged the master [De Niro] to a game of stare-down, the legend might very well blink first." Fanning voiced Lilo (succeeding Daveigh Chase) in the direct-to-video film Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch. She also had a small part in the Rodrigo Garcia film Nine Lives (released in October 2005), in which she shared an unbroken nine-minute scene with actress Glenn Close, who had her own praise for Fanning: "She's definitely an old soul. She's one of those gifted people that come along every now and then."
Fanning completed filming on Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story (opposite Kurt Russell) in late October 2004. Russell declared he was astonished by his co-star's performance in the film. Russell, 54, who plays her father in the movie, says, "I guarantee you, (Dakota) is the best actress I will work with in my entire career." Kris Kristofferson, who plays her character's grandfather in the movie, said that she's like Bette Davis reincarnated.
While promoting her role in Dreamer, Fanning became a registered member of Girl Scouts of the USA at a special ceremony, which was followed by a screening of the film for members of the Girl Scouts of the San Fernando Valley Council. She is not a member of a troop, but rather registered as a "Juliette" (GSUSA's title for independently registered girls).
She then went directly to the set of War of the Worlds, starring alongside Tom Cruise. Released in reverse order (War in June 2005 and Dreamer in the following October), both films were critical successes. War director Steven Spielberg praised "how quickly she understands the situation in a sequence, how quickly she sizes it up, measures it up and how she would really react in a real situation."
After filming was completed on War of the Worlds, Fanning moved straight to another film, without a break: Charlotte's Web, which she finished filming in May 2005, in Australia. Released on December 15, 2006, Web met generally warm critical acclaim. Producer Jordan Kerner said, "...when she was so caught up in War of the Worlds, we had to end up going on a search for other young actresses. They would have been nothing compared to her." Fanning also provided voice work for Coraline, scheduled for release sometime in 2008.
2006–2007
Over the summer of 2006, Fanning worked on the film Hounddog, described in press reports as a "dark story of abuse, violence and Elvis Presley adulation in the rural South." Fanning's parents have been criticized for allowing her to film a scene in which her character is raped. "It's not really happening," she told Reuters. "It's a movie, and it's called acting." Director Deborah Kampmeier addressed the controversy in the January 2007 edition of Premiere: "The assumption that [Dakota] was violated in order to give this performance denies her talent."
In 2006, at the age of 12, she was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, becoming the youngest member in the Academy's history.
In March and April 2007, she filmed Winged Creatures, alongside Kate Beckinsale, Guy Pearce, Josh Hutcherson, and Academy Award winners Forest Whitaker and Jennifer Hudson. She plays Anne Hagen, a girl who witnesses her father's murder and who turns to religion in the aftermath.
In July 2007, Fanning filmed for three days a short film titled Cutlass, one of Glamour's "Reel Moments" based on readers' personal essays. Cutlass was directed by Kate Hudson.
From September to December 2007, Fanning filmed Push which centers on a group of young American expatriates with telekinetic and clairvoyant abilities who hide from a U.S. government agency in Hong Kong and band together to try to escape the control of the division. Dakota plays Cassie Holmes, a thirteen-year-old psychic.
2008–present
In January 2008, Dakota began filming the movie adaptation of The Secret Life of Bees, a novel by Sue Monk Kidd. Set in South Carolina in 1964, the story centers on Lily Owens (Fanning), who escapes her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father by running away with her caregiver and only friend (played by Jennifer Hudson) to a South Carolina town where they are taken in by an eccentric trio of beekeeping sisters (played by Queen Latifah, Sophie Okonedo and Alicia Keys). Production wrapped in February 2008.

In her first movie, at the age of 4, Drew Barrymore played William Hurt's daughter in the trippy drama Altered States. She was already a veteran performer, having appeared in numerous TV commercials, and two years later she played Henry Thomas's pigtailed kid sister in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. At the end of E.T., the cuddly space alien told Barrymore to be good, and at 7 she became the youngest person ever to host Saturday Night Live. Off camera, though, she was an alcoholic by the age of 9, a cokehead by 12, and after two stints in rehab she wrote her autobiography at 14, titled Little Girl Lost.
Drama is a tradition in the Barrymore family. Her great-great-grandmother was Louisa Lane, a pre-Civil War stage actress and owner of Philadelphia's prestigious Arch Street Theatre, who starred with John Wilkes Booth in a staging of Macbeth, his last role before killing Abraham Lincoln. Louisa Lane married actor John Drew, and their son John Drew Jr was a Broadway star from the 1880s to the 1920s. Their daughter, actress Georgiana Drew, married actor Maurice Barrymore, spawning three offspring familiar to anyone who watches old movies, Ethel, John, and Lionel Barrymore. John Barrymore married four times and died of alcoholism. His son, actor John Drew Barrymore, amidst his own four marriages and heavy drinking, fathered Drew Barrymore but left the home before she was born, and was never a part of her life.
At 15, Drew Barrymore went to court, argued that her mother was a bad influence, and won her emancipation as an adult. Freed from her mother's guardianship, Barrymore started her comeback with several Lolita-roles in the early 1990s, including Guncrazy with Joe Dallesandro and Poison Ivy with Sara Gilbert. At 17 she played an aspiring actress in a prime time soap opera, 2000 Malibu Road, with Lisa Hartman as her ex-hooker landlady. At 18 she starred in a delightfully lurid TV telling of the The Amy Fisher Story. In the mid-1990s she had a small, almost superfluous role in Batman Forever with Val Kilmer, and appeared in Woody Allen's musical Everyone Says I Love You (but had her singing dubbed by someone who could carry a tune). She posed for Playboy and famously flashed David Letterman on his show in 1995. She was the first victim in Scream with Neve Campbell, she was at her cutest opposite Adam Sandler in The Wedding Singer, and she showed dramatic abilities in the weirdly profound Donnie Darko with Jake Gyllenhaal and the profoundly weird Confessions of a Dangerous Mind with George Clooney.
Now a major star, she has produced several of her biggest hits, including the unlikely charmer Ever After with Barrymore as Cinderella to Dougray Scott's Prince Charming, Never Been Kissed with David Arquette, Charlie's Angels with Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu, and Fever Pitch with Jimmy Fallon. She produced and voiced the animated Olive the Other Reindeer Christmas special.
In 1994 she married bartender Jeremy Thomas in his Los Angeles tavern, where the ceremony was performed by a clairvoyant they reached by dialing a psychic hot line. Their marriage lasted barely a month. She was later married briefly to comic-irritant Tom Green, after her Beverly Hills mansion burned to the ground in 2001. She was the focus of the charming stalker documentary My Date with Drew, in which a lifetime fan went to frightening lengths to briefly gain Ms Barrymore's attention. She is the godmother of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love's daughter, Frances Bean Cobain.
Her half-brother, John Blyth Barrymore, was an actor whose career peaked with a recurring role as Caine's nephew on the original Kung Fu with David Carradine. Her aunt, Diana Barrymore, was a successful film and stage actress in the 1940s who was -- like Drew -- abandoned by her father and neglected by her mother. She killed herself in 1960, and her story was told in the film Too Much, Too Soon starring Errol Flynn as John Barrymore and Dorothy Malone as Diana Barrymore.
Trivia
Barrymore was delivered by Dr. Paul Fleiss, father of Heidi Fleiss (interview on The Tonight Show, January 22, 2003).
She is the godmother of Frances Bean, the daughter of musicians Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love.
She has 6 tattoos: a crescent moon on her big toe, a cross with ivy on her lower leg, a butterfly on her stomach, a daisy on her hip, and 2 angels on her lower back (one has a banner with her mother's name, Jaid, and the other has the name James--a tribute to her then-boyfriend Jamie Walters).
Other career highlights
One of her more recent roles has involved her becoming a recurring character in the animated comedy Family Guy as Brian Griffin's simple-minded girlfriend, Jillian. She has since appeared in four episodes. She was the subject of the 2005 documentary My Date with Drew. In it, an aspiring filmmaker and a fan of Barrymore's, uses his limited resources in an attempt to gain a date with her.
On February 3, 2004, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Barrymore has a worldwide box office gross that stands at over $2.3 billion. According to The Hollywood Reporter's annual Star Salary Top 10, she was one of the actresses with the second highest salary per movie for 2006.
On February 3, 2007, Barrymore hosted Saturday Night Live (SNL) for the fifth time, making her the second female host in the show's history to do so (Candice Bergen being the first), and she still remains the youngest celebrity to host the show (Barrymore hosted in 1982 at age seven).
Barrymore became a CoverGirl Cosmetics' model and spokeswoman in 2007, and was No. 1 in People's annual 100 Most Beautiful People list. In 2007, she was named the new face for the Gucci jewelry line. Barrymore is signed to IMG Models New York City.
In May 2007, Barrymore was named Ambassador Against Hunger for the United Nations World Food Programme and later donated $1 million to the cause
Personal life
Barrymore was engaged and lived with musician/actor Jamie Walters for a period in 1992-93.
Barrymore was married to Welsh bartender turned bar owner Jeremy Thomas from March 20 to April 28, 1994. Her second marriage was to comedian Tom Green from July 7, 2001 to October 15, 2002. Green filed for divorce in December 2001. In 2002, Barrymore began dating Strokes' drummer Fabrizio Moretti, soon after they met at a concert. Their five year relationship, however, ended on January 10, 2007. She most recently dated Justin Long, however, they confirmed their split in July 2008.
In March 2007, former magazine editor Jane Pratt claimed on her Sirius Satellite Radio show that she had a romance with Barrymore in the mid-nineties. This was after Barrymore's own 2004 admission that she considered herself bisexual, commenting: "A woman and a woman together are beautiful, just as a man and a woman together are beautiful. Being with a woman is like exploring your own body, but through someone else. When I was younger I used to go with lots of women. Totally. I love it".
Barrymore was formerly a vegetarian, but has since begun to eat meat.

AKA Maria Lea Carmen Imutan Salonga
Born: 22-Feb-1971
Birthplace: Manila, Philippines
Gender: Female
Religion: Roman Catholic
Race or Ethnicity: Asian
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Singer, Actor
Nationality: Philippines
Executive summary: Miss Saigon
Father: Feliciano Salonga
Mother: Ligaya Imutan
Brother: Gerard (musician/conductor)
Husband: Robert Charles Chien (m. 10-Jan-2004)
Lea Salonga, is a multi-awarded Filipino singer and actress who is best known for originating the role of Kim in the musical Miss Saigon. In the field of musical theatre, she is recognized for having won the Olivier, Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics, and Theatre World Awards, the first to win various international awards for a single role. She was also the first Asian to play Eponine in the musical Les Misérables on Broadway.
Salonga is the singing voice of Princess Jasmine from Aladdin in 1992 and Fa Mulan for Mulan and Mulan II in 1998 and in 2004, respectively.
Early career
Lea started as a child star in the Philippines, making her professional debut in 1978 at the age of seven through the musical The King and I by Repertory Philippines. She became the lead star of Annie and joined other productions such as Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Fiddler on the Roof, The Rose Tattoo, The Sound of Music, The Goodbye Girl, Paper Moon, and The Fantasticks.
She began her recording career at the age of ten with her first album, Small Voice, which received a gold certification. A song on the album, the duet “Happiness,” marked her first recording collaboration with her younger brother Gerard Salonga who would, years later, work with her either as musical director or creative director in her concerts and recordings. Her second album, "Lea," was released in 1988.
In addition to performing in musical theater and recordings, Salonga hosted her own musical television show, Love, Lea, and was a member of the cast of German Moreno's teen variety show That's Entertainment. She likewise acted in films, which included the family-oriented Tropang Bulilit, Like Father, Like Son, Ninja Kids, Captain Barbell and Pik Pak Boom. She also opened for international acts such as Menudo and Stevie Wonder in their concerts in Manila in 1985 and in 1988, respectively.
As a young performer, Lea Salonga received a Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) award nomination (the Philippine equivalent of an Oscar nomination) for Best Child Actress and three wins from the Aliw (literally, "entertainment") Awards as Best Child Performer.
International career
Salonga's big breakthrough came when she was selected to play Kim in the megahit musical Miss Saigon in 1989. Unable to find a strong enough Asian actress/singer in the United Kingdom, the producers scoured many countries looking for the lead role of this major British production. For her audition, the 17-year-old Salonga chose to sing Boublil and Schönberg's "On My Own" from Les Misérables and was later asked to sing "Sun and Moon" to test her voice quality's compatibility with the songs in the musical. The members of the panel were impressed with Salonga's rendition of the songs, noting that from Salonga’s very first note, they already knew they had a potential Kim. Salonga competed with childhood friend and fellow Repertory Philippines performer Monique Wilson as they were tested with songs from the musical, which included "Too Much for One Heart," a number replaced by the duet "Please" right before the musical opened. Salonga was offered the lead role, with Wilson as the alternate (who was also assigned the role of bar girl Mimi).
For her performance as Kim, Salonga won the Olivier for Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical for the 1989/1990 season. From its original London home, Miss Saigon moved to Broadway in April 1991. Salonga subsequently garnered the Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and the Theatre World Awards for the same role. Between 1993 and 1996, she was asked periodically to play Kim on Broadway to boost ticket sales. In 1999, she was invited back to London to close the musical, and in 2001, at the age of 29 and after doing the Manila run of the musical, Salonga returned to Broadway to close the Broadway production.
Between opening Miss Saigon in 1989 and closing it on Broadway 12 years later in 2001, Salonga became involved in other musical productions and projects:
In 1990, she performed in a major homecoming concert in Manila entitled A Miss Called Lea. She also received a Presidential Award of Merit from Philippine president Corazon Aquino.
In 1993, upon completion of her initial stint as Kim on Broadway, Salonga played the role of street waif Eponine in the Broadway production of Les Misérables, and later flew to Los Angeles to perform the song "A Whole New World" of Disney's Aladdin (Salonga is the singing voice of Princess Jasmine) with Brad Kane at the 65th Annual Academy Awards, where the song won an Oscar. That same year, she released her self-titled international debut album with Atlantic Records, which had modest sales in the USA but went platinum in the Philippines and sold 3 million copies worldwide.
In 1994, Salonga played in various musical theater productions in the Philippines and Singapore. She starred as Sandy in Grease, as Sonia Walks in They're Playing Our Song,[38] and as The Witch in Into The Woods.
In 1995, Salonga, back in the U.S., played the role of Geri Riordan, an 18-year-old adopted Vietnamese American child in the movie Redwood Curtain, which starred John Lithgow and Jeff Daniels. She then flew back to the Philippines to star with Filipino matinee idol Aga Muhlach in the critically-acclaimed film Sana Maulit Muli, which gave her her second Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) award nomination, this time for Best Actress. She accepted an invitation from Sir Cameron Mackintosh to play the role of Eponine in the Les Miserable's 10th anniversary presentation called Les Miserables in Concert at London's Royal Albert Hall. Salonga performed as part of a "dream cast" composed of Colm Wilkinson, Michael Ball, Judy Kuhn, and Philip Quast.
In 1996, Salonga was in Les Miserables once again. She played Eponine in the London production of the musical, then continued on to do the role in the musical's U.S. national tour in Hawaii.
From 1997 to 2000, Salonga kept herself busy with recordings and concerts in the Philippines and another engagement in London, in addition to her periodic returns to Miss Saigon in London and on Broadway. In 1997, she released "I'd Like to Teach The World to Sing" (recordings from her childhood days) to gold sales in the Philippines. That recording was followed by "Lea...In Love" in 1998 and "By Heart" in 2000, with both albums reaching multiple platinum status in the Philippines. In addition to the release of these albums, she participated in the major tribute concert to Sir Cameron Mackintosh in London called "Hey Mr. Producer: The Musical World of Cameron MacKintosh," where she did numbers from different musicals mounted by the famous producer. She also performed in four concerts: The Homecoming Concert, The Millennium Concert, The Best of Manila, and Songs from the Screen - the last two being benefit shows. Salonga closed the millennium with a grand Miss Saigon "homecoming" via the Manila production of the musical staged at the Cultural Center of the Philippines at the end of 2000.
After Miss Saigon's closing on Broadway in 2001, Salonga recreated the role of Lien Hughes originally played by Ming-Na Wen in the soap opera As The World Turns. (After completing her contract that year, she was asked to return to the role in 2003.) She also guested on Russell Watson's The Voice concert, narrated for the television special My America: A Poetry Atlas of the United States, and appeared on the Christmas episode of the TV medical drama E.R., playing the role of a patient with lymphoma.
In 2002, Salonga returned to Broadway to play the role of a Chinese immigrant in a reinterpretation of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Flower Drum Song opposite Jose Llana. This was after the reinvented musical had a very successful run at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles in 2001 with Salonga playing the lead role and with the show garnering multiple wins and nominations, including Lead Actress in a Musical for Salonga, from the Theatre Los Angeles Ovation Awards. The show, given a brand new libretto and considered one of the 10 best plays on Broadway in 2002 by Time Magazine, garnered Tony Award nominations for Best Book, Best Costume Designer, and Best Choreographer, and earned nominations from the Outer Critics Circle, the Drama League, the Astaire Awards, and Broadway.com's Audience Awards and Broadwayworld.com's Fans' Choice Awards as well. The Salonga-led Broadway revival cast album was also a top contender at the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Musical Show Album. While Ms. Salonga's performance was received positively by theater critics such as Matthew Murray, Heather Cross, Patrick Purdon, and John Simon, among others, she was not nominated at the Tony Awards for her brief stint on Broadway that season, although she did get nominations for Distinguished Performance from the Drama League, for Favorite Lead Actress in a Broadway Musical from Broadway.com's Audience Awards, and for Best Lead Actress in a Musical from Broadwayworld.com's Fans' Choice Awards. Between the 2001 Los Angeles and 2002 Broadway productions of Flower Drum Song, she performed in a non-musical theatrical production for the first time, playing the role of Catherine in the stage play Proof in Manila. This was followed by a major concert, The Broadway Concert, at the Philippine International Convention Center. She also sang with Harry Connick, Peter Gallagher, and Michelle Lee in a tribute number for Richard Rodgers at the 56th Tony Awards.
In 2003, Salonga was back in Manila to do her first "all-Filipino" concert called Songs from Home, which later won for her another Aliw Award as Entertainer of the Year (she had won it the year prior). Upon her return to the U.S., she performed in several shows at the Mohegan Sun in Montville, Connecticut. This was followed by a Christmas concert in the Philippines called Home for Christmas at the end of the year, which captured the critics' notice at the 18th Aliw Awards, and performances at the Lenape Regional Performing Arts Center in Marlton, New Jersey the following year, in 2004. Later that year, she was back on the stage as Lizzie in the Manila production of the musical Baby, which earned her yet another nomination from the Aliw Awards. In 2005, Salonga played her first US concert tour in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlantic City, and Chicago. Concert dates in Washington, D.C. and Norfolk, Virginia followed. Later that year, Salonga performed with a 26-piece ensemble to a sold-out crowd at the Isaac Stern Hall in Carnegie Hall for the benefit of Diverse City Theater Company. Between her concerts, the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) bestowed her with the Golden Artist Award at the 53rd FAMAS Awards in honor of her international achievements. She performed during the grand opening of Hong Kong's Disneyland and recorded two songs on tenor Daniel Rodriguez's In the Presence CD. That same year, too, Salonga did voice work for Disney's English dub of Hayao Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro as Mrs. Kusakabe (Salonga's other Disney film credits include the singing voice of Princess Jasmine for Aladdin in 1992 and Fa Mulan for Mulan and Mulan II in 1998 and in 2004, respectively).
In 2006, at the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, Salonga concluded the closing ceremony with the song "Triumph of The One" before an audience of 50,000 people at the Khalifa Stadium.
In 2007, Salonga released her first studio album in seven years called "Inspired," which has been certified platinum, and finished another stint in the musical Les Misérables on Broadway, this time as Fantine. She is slated to appear in a number of musical events scheduled in different countries until 2008.
Salonga received the Order of Lakandula Award from Philippine president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in recognition of her excellence in her craft and for using her talents to benefit Philippine society. It was also announced that she would return to Broadway in the musical Les Misérables, replacing Daphne Rubin-Vega as Fantine on March 6. Her tenure started, however, on March 2, four days earlier than planned. Her casting on the show has been credited with boosting the musical's ticket sales on Broadway. On September 27, 2007, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who was in New York, watched Salonga in her new role in the musical, whose cast that night included Filipino Americans Adam Jacobs as Marius and Ali Ewoldt as Cosette. Her contract with the musical ended on October 21, 2007 and she was succeeded by Broadway's original Cosette Judy Kuhn. For her performances in this revival, Salonga received rave reviews and made it again to the short list of Broadway.com's Audience Award favorites -- this time for Best Replacement for her new role as Fantine. During her stint on Broadway this season, she appeared on Broadway on Broadway 2007 and Stars in the Alley 2007, spoke at the Broadway Artists Alliance Summer Intensives, guested on the Broadway musical 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and participated in Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS' 12th Annual Nothing Like A Dame event to benefit the women's health initiative of The Actors Fund. Right after doing Les Misérables, she performed in two events: at the US Military Academy Band's concert in West Point where she sang four songs and an encore and in her own concert at the Tarrytown Music Hall in New York.
As of November 2007, a number of performances were scheduled for the rest of the year and for 2008, including a Christmas presentation in Manila, concerts in other parts of the Philippines and in California, Hawaii, Hong Kong, and Guam and Broadway Asia Entertainment's international tour of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella, where she plays the lead.
In her 30-year career thus far, Salonga has performed for five Philippine presidents (from Ferdinand Marcos to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo), three American Presidents (George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush), and for Diana, Princess of Wales and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Salonga, on July 3, 2008 started writing as columnist in Philippine Daily Inquirer - “Backstory” (Entertainment section), "Introducing: Lea Salonga, writer." She performed in "Global Pop" at the Music Center on July 11, 2008. It was presented by The Blue Ribbon a group founded by Dorothy Chandler in 1968. Backed by an orchestra of 19 musicians, Lea Salonga received a standing ovation for her historic solo concert (Tickets, priced $ 30 - $ 115), at Frank Gehry’s masterpiece on July 11 at Los Angeles’ iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall. Salonga also performed part of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “There’s Music in You,” as preview of her coming show “Cinderella,” at the Cultural Center of the Philippines on July 29.
According to Billboard.com, the acclaimed singing actress is scheduled to offer concerts in Nevada, Washington, California, Indiana, New York, Hawaii and more in 2009.
Personal life
Lea Salonga is the eldest child of Feliciano Genuino Salonga and Ligaya Alcantara Imutan and spent the first six years of her childhood in Angeles City before moving to Manila. She is a sister of composer Gerard Salonga. Contrary to popular belief, she is not related to former Senator Jovito Salonga.
She studied at the O. B. Montessori Center in Greenhills, Metro Manila, where she was a Bergamo 1 Student and an active participant in school productions. She also attended the University of the Philippines College of Music's extension program aimed at training musically talented children in music and stage movement. She was a college freshman at the Ateneo de Manila University when she auditioned for Miss Saigon and attended Fordham University when she was in New York.
On January 10, 2004, Salonga married Robert Charles Chien, a Chinese-Japanese managing director of an entertainment software company in Los Angeles, California, whom she met while doing Flower Drum Song. They have a daughter, Nicole Beverly, born on May 16, 2006 and named after Salonga's late mother-in-law, Beverly Chien.

In 1984, she played the lead female role on the CBS television series Cover Up; the lead male actor, Jon-Erik Hexum, was killed on the studio playing with a blank (prop bullet in a gun), and the series ended after just one season (with Antony Hamilton as the new male lead).
Personal life
A self-described "romantic", O'Neill has been married and divorced nine times, and has a daughter by her first husband, and two sons from later marriages. A lifelong competitive horseback rider, she has suffered serious back injuries due to falls. On Oct 23, 1982, O'Neill accidentally shot herself in the abdomen with a gun belonging to her then-husband, John Lederer, at their Bedford, New York mansion; she stated she was checking if the weapon were loaded, and police ruled it an accident.
In 2004, O'Neill wrote and published From Fallen To Forgiven, a book of biographical notes and philosophical thoughts about life and existence. The actress, who had an abortion at the age of nineteen, became a pro-life activist and born again Christian, counseling abstinence to teens. Concerning her abortion: "I was told a lie from the pit of hell: that my baby was just a blob of tissue. The aftermath of abortion can be equally deadly for both mother and unborn child. A woman who has an abortion is sentenced to bear that for the rest of her life."

She starred opposite River Phoenix as an "ugly" young woman taken to a cruel contest by a Marine under the pretense that it would be a date.

In early 2004, Taylor began appearing onstage in New York City in a production of Wallace Shawn's Aunt Dan and Lemon in the role of Lemon. She won the Best Actress award at the 2005 Copenhagen International Film Festival for her role in Factotum.

AKA Robyn Rihanna Fenty
Born: 20-Feb-1988
Birthplace: St. Michael, Barbados
Gender: Female
Race or Ethnicity: Multiracial
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Singer
Nationality: Barbados
Executive summary: Caribbean/hip-hop/soul vocalist
Father: Ronald Fenty (store supervisor)
Mother: Monica (accountant)
Brother: Rorrey
Brother: Rajad
The eldest child of a Barbadan father and a Guyanese mother, Robyn Rihanna Fenty spent a quiet, average childhood in the Parish of St. Michael on the small Carribean island of Barbados. Although her vocal abilities became apparent at an early age, for the first decade-and-a-half of Rihanna's life her musical experience did not extend beyond singing for her own enjoyment (or, on occasion, with friends at school). In her early teens she made her first attempts at public performance, beginning with her entry in the Miss Combermere Beauty Pageant (which she won) and followed by a rendition of Mariah Carey's Hero as part of the Colours of Combermere School talent show (which she also won).
A dramatic change in Rihanna's life took place at the end of 2003, set in motion by a chance introduction to New York-based producer Evan Rogers. Vacationing on the island at the time with his Barbadan-born wife, Rogers was introduced to the young singer by a mutual friend; after an impromptu demonstration of her vocal skills, he immediately recognized her potential and arranged a recording session back in the States the following spring with his production/writing partner Carl Sturken. A 12-song demo tape was compiled over the next several months, and in January of 2005 Rihanna relocated to New York City to more effectively pursue whatever opportunities presented themselves. The demo recordings quickly generated a lot of interest -- the most enthusiastic response being from Def Jam CEO Jay-Z, who arranged a meeting with the then-17-year-old in February and signed her on the spot.
Rihanna's debut single Pon De Replay was issued in the summer of 2005, rapidly climbing to the #2 position on both the US and UK mainstream charts. Her first album Music of the Sun arrived at #10 a month later, with a subsequent promotional tour in support of Gwen Stefani helping to push it towards gold status. Filming for her first acting role (albeit as herself) in the straight-to-video cheerleading flick Bring It On: All or Nothing was undertaken between sessions for her second album A Girl Like Me (2006), which arrived a mere 8 months after the first. This second collection's lead single S.O.S. (Rescue Me) (featuring a sample from Soft Cell's Tainted Love) repeated Pon De Replay's rapid journey up to the #2 slot, while the album itself surpassed it's successor by reaching #5 and almost doubling it's sales figures. A second single, Unfaithful, found it's way to #6 upon it's release in July, providing the singer with her third top 10 song less than a year after her arrival on the music scene.
In the midst of the considerable developments taking place in her career, the singer moved out of New York and took up residence at the Connecticut home of Rogers and his wife. Numerous television and sporting event appearances successfully maintained her public exposure throughout 2005 and 2006, including performances at both the 2005 US Lawn Tennis Open Championships and the 2005 NFL launch game, and a guest appearance on the long-running soap opera All My Children in July of 2006.

News
The Los Angeles Police Department opened an internal investigation late Thursday into whether a picture posted on a celebrity gossip website purportedly showing the bloody and bruised face of R&B star Rihanna was part of police evidence in the case, department officials said in a statement.
The photo posted by TMZ.com at 8:39 p.m. Eastern Standard Time time under the headline "Rihanna -- The Face of a Battered Woman" showed a woman said to be Rihanna with her eyes closed, a fat lip and apparent bruising to her forehead. The site ran a short sentence above the photo stating "TMZ has obtained a photo of Rihanna taken after Chris Brown allegedly beat her."
The LAPD currently is investigating an alleged altercation between Rihanna and singer Chris Brown, who police said injured the female artist during a fight the couple had last week in a Hancock Park neighborhood the morning of the Grammy Awards.
The department issued a statement that said the photograph has the appearance of one taken during an official domestic violence investigation.
"The Los Angeles Police Department takes seriously its duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence," it read. "The Department launched an immediate internal investigation and subsequently filed a personnel complaint. A violation of this type is considered serious misconduct, with penalties up to and including termination."
Brown was arrested Feb. 8 on suspicion of making criminal threats but was not immediately charged because the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said police needed to gather additional evidence in the case.
Police sources have said that Rihanna is cooperating with investigators in building a domestic violence case against Brown and indicated that she had suffered bruises and a scratch on her face resulting from the early morning altercation with Brown. She was treated at a "major medical facility," a police source said.
Brown, 19, who has a double-platinum record and dance moves often compared to Michael Jackson's, fled before officers arrived, police said.
He remains free on $50,000 bail and, through his public relations firm, issued an apology for the incident that rocked the Grammys. Brown and Rihanna were both nominated; neither attended the ceremony.

Born: 20-Feb-1983
Birthplace: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Gender: Female
Race or Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Model
Nationality: Australia
Height 5 ft 9 in
Hair color Brown
Eye color Blue
Measurements 34-24-34
Executive summary: Australian fashion model
Father: John Kerr
Mother: Therese
Brother: Matthew (younger)
Boyfriend: Brent Tuhtan (Australian model/musician, cohabited)
Boyfriend: Orlando Bloom (actor, together since 2008)
Miranda May Kerr is an Australian model, best known as one of the Victoria's Secret Angels. She was the first Australian addition to the Victoria's Secret campaign, and was the face of Australian fashion chain Portmans and now David Jones Limited. Kerr entered modeling in the fashion industry in her mid-teens after winning a 1997 Australian nation-wide model search hosted by Dolly magazine and Impulse fragrances.
Early life and family
Kerr was born in Sydney but raised in Gunnedah, New South Wales, a small rural town. Her parents are Therese and John Kerr, and she has a younger brother named Matthew. During her childhood, Kerr stated she "raced motorbikes and rode horses on [her] grandmother's farm" and describes her early life in the Australian countryside as "very grounding ... there wasn't any pretentiousness and no one really cared what you were wearing. You could just be you."
Her family moved to Brisbane to allow Kerr and her brother to experience city life. She graduated from All Hallows' School and planned to study nutrition before pursuing modeling.
Dolly magazine
At age thirteen, Kerr entered and won the 1997 annual Dolly Magazine/Impulse Model Competition. She was flown to Sydney a week before her fourteenth birthday to shoot for the magazine. Upon Kerr's win, local media expressed "concerned outrage" at her young age. The controversy raised concerns about the glorification of young girls within the fashion, beauty, and entertainment industries. Some conservative media outlets claimed her Dolly shoot (including images of a fourteen-year-old Kerr in bathing suits) constituted a form of child pornography. Of the press, Kerr said: "In the media at the time they were trying to cling on to anything remotely to do with pedophilia. Dolly is a magazine for teenage girls, not for old men. And I was fully clothed! Doing a winter shoot! They just made something out of nothing."
Kerr suffered emotional distress following the death of her high-school boyfriend during her final year of schooling. Eventually overcoming the trauma, Kerr signed to Chic Management's Sydney division. She received considerable commercial exposure after a series of beachwear ads predominantly for Australian surf chain Billabong, in which Kerr modeled surf brands Tigerlily, Roxy, Billabong Girls and One Teaspoon. This increased her profile in the Australian and Asian markets, after which Kerr relocated to New York.
Career
Once in New York, Kerr had a multitude of runway appearances, and then signed with Next model agency in early 2004. From there, she was booked for runway and print campaigns for major labels, including Alex Perry, Ayyýldýz, Baby Phat, Lisa Ho, Voodoo Dolls, Levi's, Bettina Liano, Nicola Finetti, L.A.M.B., Heatherette, Betsey Johnson, Trelise Cooper, Jets, John Richmond, Blumarine Swimwear, Neiman Marcus, Seafolly Swimwear, Anna Molinari, Rock and Republic and Roberto Cavalli. She was also booked for print in magazines such as Elle, Australian Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, and was featured in television advertisements for brands like Portmans, Bonds and Veet.
In 2006, Kerr broke into the United States market when she signed a lucrative cosmetics contract with Maybelline New York. The campaign ran in a series of internationally sold women's beauty magazines, including Cosmopolitan, CLEO and Elle, and was eventually featured in Victoria's Secret catalogues.
Following her success with Maybelline, Kerr became the first Australian model to be offered a contract with Victoria's Secret and upon her acceptance, the first ever Australian Victoria's Secret Angel,[citation needed] joining the stable of models already signed to the lingerie giant, including Gisele Bündchen, Alessandra Ambrosio, Karolína Kurková, Adriana Lima, Selita Ebanks, Izabel Goulart, and Heidi Klum. Kerr's popularity continued to increase as one of the globally recognized Angels when she appeared in the Victoria's Secret 2006, 2007 and 2008 televised runway shows, which aired on four continents.
By 2007, Kerr had signed on as the face of Californian fashion retailer Arden B. After debuting in their Spring and Summer ad campaigns, Kerr returned for their Fall 2007 campaign, shot by fashion photographer Diego Uchitel. She has also become the new face of Clinique Happy, and signed a lucrative six-figure deal to be the new face of Australian department store David Jones, replacing model Megan Gale. In 2008, earning an estimated $3.5 million in the past 12 months, Forbes placed Kerr tenth in the list of the world's top-earning models.
Kerr (along with several other Victoria's Secret and Next agency models) was featured in a music video for American hip-hop artists Kanye West and Pharrell' single Number One.
Following her modeling success with Victoria's Secret, Kerr made a small guest appearance in the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother alongside fellow Angels Adriana Lima, Marisa Miller, Heidi Klum, and Selita Ebanks.
Public image
Kerr is dubbed "the next MacPherson". Kerr's model trademark is her dimples. Celebrity photographer Russell James said of Kerr, "The US has fallen in love with her. We love her because she has the most incredible girl-next-door look and she's also insanely beautiful. It means women are not intimidated by her looks and guys think they might be able to talk to her. It's a fantastic combination ... people want to be around her; she's fun on a shoot … and she's not stupid, which can be a very annoying trait among some models." Model agent Ursula Hufnagl described Kerr as "the perfect endorsement", citing her ability to "truly sell a product."
Kerr's charitable work includes Wildlife Warriors Worldwide and Children International.
Personal life
In 2003, Kerr began dating finance broker Adrian Camilleri. Following an Australian Securities and Investments Commission investigation, Camilleri was found guilty on five counts of fraudulent behaviour spanning between February 2003 to February 2004. Kerr subsequently ended the relationship. 2007 reports claim Kerr suffered financially "after taking her boyfriend's financial advice" but chose not to take legal action.
Kerr practices Nichiren Buddhism — a Japanese branch of the Buddhist religion — and believes "we have a responsibility to bring peace and harmony to our lives and the world." As part of her Nichiren beliefs, Kerr reportedly chants every morning and night for 20 minutes, practices yoga, meditates and reads widely on spirituality.
According to a Victoria's Secret profile on Kerr, posted on the CBS YouTube page, Kerr's described her take on life as "enjoying wherever it is [I am] and trying to be in the moment as much as possible". As reported in 2007, Kerr is writing an inspirational self-esteem self-help book called Treasure Yourself aimed at the female teenage demographic. Kerr says, "Basically, it's a whole lot of information that I've found, that has helped me. If I can help one girl by doing this then I've completed my purpose."
In late 2007, Kerr began dating actor (and fellow practicing Buddhist) Orlando Bloom.

As a youngster, Justine Bateman became interested in acting when her younger brother, Jason Bateman, joined the cast of Little House on the Prairie. She began working as a professional actress at the age of 11, and at 15 she was cast as Mallory Keaton, the airheaded elder sister on Family Ties. In 1988, NBC tried to make Bateman into a movie star, funding a theatrical film called Satisfaction, with Bateman as front-girl for a minor rock band. White was born Vanna Marie Rosich in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the daughter of Joan Marie and Miguel Angel Rosich. Her family is of Croatian background.[citation needed] White took the name of her stepfather, Herbert Stackley White, Jr., a former real estate agent in North Myrtle Beach. One of White's ancestors, whose last name was Barnes, was one of the first mayors of the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico. She is the niece of actor Christopher George.
White's first car, (purchased by her father, for her) was a metallic blue 1972 "Marathon Edition" (Volkswagen Beetle). Vanna's father tried to get her to consider other makes of cars, but Vanna held firm on her decision. Vanna so desired the car due to the corporate initials of (Volkswagen AG) being the same as hers, "V.W.". A picture of Vanna's Bug was featured on a Summer 2007 episode of Wheel Of Fortune, in which she revisited her hometown.
Television career
White's first national television appearance came on the June 20, 1980 episode of The Price Is Right, where she was one of the first four contestants to "come on down." She did not make it onstage, but the clip of her running to Contestants' Row would be rebroadcast as part of The Price Is Right 25th Anniversary Special in 1996 and was also shown on Game Show Moments Gone Bananas. Two years later she auditioned for the letter-turning job on Wheel of Fortune that Susan Stafford had vacated. Merv Griffin chose her over two other finalists, and her first episode as Pat Sajak's regular assistant aired December 13, 1982. She remained with the daytime version of Wheel until its cancellation in 1991.
White's popularity soared after the nighttime version of Wheel debuted in September 1983. Within a year, Wheel was the highest-rated syndicated program, in large part because of "Vannamania". Her 1987 autobiography, Vanna Speaks!, was a best-seller. Also in 1987, she was featured in a Playboy pictorial, containing photos of White wearing see-through lingerie that were taken before Wheel.
White was the subject of "Weird Al" Yankovic's 1988 song, "Stuck in a Closet With Vanna White". In 1989, she was in the NBC TV-movie Goddess of Love, in which she played Venus. The film was universally panned, and TV Guide said White's acting was "wheely" bad.
She has also made cameo appearances on television shows such as Married... with Children, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, and Full House, movies such as Naked Gun 33¨÷: The Final Insult, and served as a guest timekeeper at WrestleMania IV. In 1992, the Guinness Book of World Records recognized White as "television's most frequent clapper". On April 20, 2006, White received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Personal life
White dated Playgirl centerfold/Chippendales dancer turned actor John Gibson in the 1980s, and they eventually became engaged. The relationship came to a tragic end in 1986 when Gibson was killed in a plane crash. She divorced her husband of 11 years, George Santo Pietro, in November 2002, and maintained custody of their two young children, Nicholas and Giovanna. From 2004 to 2006, White was engaged to businessman Michael Kaye, the senior partner at a large LBO fund in southern California.
Litigation
In 1993, White won a lawsuit against Samsung Electronics over their use of a humorous ad featuring a robot turning letters on a game show. The decision was later affirmed by the Ninth Circuit. The issue was over the property right to publicity. The court ruled in favor of White's claim of a right to her property of publicity. This case has been widely criticized by property lawyers who cite the dissenting opinion by Judge Kozinski, from the denial of a rehearing en banc, which stated, among other things, that "Overprotecting intellectual property is as harmful as underprotecting it. Creativity is impossible without a rich public domain. Nothing today, likely nothing since we tamed fire, is genuinely new: Culture, like science and technology, grows by accretion, each new creator building on the works of those who came before. Overprotection stifles the very creative forces it's supposed to nurture".

Tabitha Stevens is an American pornographic actress. Stevens was active in the porn industry for ten years, appearing in more than two hundred adult films. She came to wider public notoriety with her appearances on The Howard Stern Show, and her openness about her numerous plastic surgeries. On her website she describes herself as a "plastic surgery junkie" and provides a list of the many procedures she has undergone:
6 boob jobs
3 nose jobs
2 cheek implant surgeries
1 under-the-nose implant
1 chin implant
1 fat transfer from her right leg to her entire face.
Frequent Botox treatments
Frequent restalyne injections in her lips
1 nose implant
Restalyne injections in smile lines
Anal bleaching
She also appeared on the television show, Dr. 90210 showcasing her cheek implant surgery. Her procedures have included the rarely publicized practice of anal bleaching, and on an episode of The Howard Stern Show proceeded to display it to him and even go so far as to have someone from the studio team apply the bleach cream.
On March 13, 2006, Stevens appeared on the Howard Stern Show promoting her first non-porno movie The Shaman. Stern responded by saying that it might be the worst movie ever made. It was partially improvised and featured High Pitch Eric in troll makeup. Stern Show writer Benjy Bronk was originally offered the part, however he declined.
On April 25, 2006, Stevens called the Stern Show to reveal that Stern's harsh opinion of the film, in part, caused her to retreat to rural Utah, where she has debated becoming an alpaca farmer.
In 2007, she was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame.
On March 27, 2008, 3rd Degree announced Tabitha Stevens' return as a hardcore adult performer with a $5,000 blowjob scene in the upcoming Head Case #4. Stevens' scene was filmed Friday, March 28, 2008, breaking her near six year hiatus from hardcore film performance. Her friend of 13 years, director Mike Quasar (AKA 'Quasarman') directed the film.
On May 14, 2008 Stevens appeared on the Howard Stern Show, participating in a bit "What would Tabitha Do?". The bit posed a series of lewd questions, to see what she would or would not do in order to appear on the Howard Stern Show.

AKA Rebecca Carre, R. Lord, Rebecca Lords, Rebeca Lord, Rebecca Bruns
Born: February 16, 1973
Location: Paris, France
Height: 5 ft 7 in (1.70 m)
Measurements: 34B-23-34 in
Eye color: Blue
Hair color: Brunette
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Rebecca Lord is the stage name of a French pornographic actress who has been active since 1993. After moving to the U.S., she achieved popularity in the porn industry there.
Early years
Originally from Paris, France, Lord attended parochial school while growing up, an experience she says led her to become a resolute atheist. As a young adult, she was a make-up artist, until 1993, when she answered a newspaper ad seeking a model for a pornographic movie directed by Patrice Cabanel. In her earliest movies, she appeared under the names "Rebecca Carre" and "Rebecca Bruns". In 1994, French director David Caroll gave her the stage name "Rebecca Lords" as a reference to Traci Lords. While listing her name in the credits, however, he mistakenly omitted the "S", and her name became "Rebecca Lord", which she has used ever since.
Career rise
In 1994, she was discovered by Swedish porn director Nic Cramer and appeared in two of his videos, Euro-max 2 and Euro-max 3. This introduced her to the American porn industry. She soon left France for Los Angeles and quickly established herself in the porn industry there. She has since appeared in over 200 porn movies (as of 2007). Lord has directed and produced several of the videos she has starred in, through her company, Rebecca Lord Productions, as well as actively maintaining an internet paysite. She became much less active in porn movies after 2003, though in several posts on her website (in July 2004, November 2005, and March 2007), Lord denied rumors that she had retired.
She has used condoms in almost all of her sex scenes with men, and has noted that the pressure on actresses to work without condoms has caused her some difficulty in the industry. Throughout her entire porn career, she has been married to the same man, who she has been together with since the age of 17.
Other work
In 1998, Lord appeared in the video for the George Michael song "Outside". She has also appeared on The Howard Stern Show twice in November 1999 and once in June 2001. The last appearance was particularly notable for comments Lord and Stern made about the Catholic Church, which led the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights to call for Miller Brewing to drop its sponsorship of the show. (Miller chose not to drop its advertising from the show.)
In 2005, she made a breakthrough into non-pornographic cinema, co-starring in the 2005 independent film I Am a Sex Addict. Lord plays Zahedi's first wife, whom Zahedi claims bore a striking resemblance to Lord. In one scene where director and star Caveh Zahedi breaks from the narrative and addresses the audience directly, Zahedi announces his discovery over an internet site that co-star Rebecca Lord was a porn actress and escort, something he claims not to have known when he first hired Lord for the role. (The subject of the film was, ironically, about Zahedi's addiction to prostitutes).
During her time in the USA, Lord has lived in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco, and New York City. As of 2007, she has been living back in France for several years, after her the expiration of her visa (which expired during the filming of I am a Sex Addict). She has stated that Las Vegas and New York are two favorite cities and that she plans to move back to one or the other city in the future.

Tilly took dance lessons from an early age, and after her family returned to America she performed with the Connecticut Ballet Company.
In her first film, 1980's Fame, Tilly was one of many dancers, but after that a nagging back injury made dancing painful, and she decided to become an actress instead. Tilly had featured roles in many films, and became identified with flaky, spooky, or haunted characters. In Leaving Normal, she played the victim of an abusive husband, and was taken in by Christine Lahti. In Psycho II, she played the psychopath's girlfriend.

In 1998, he became Chairman of Sony Pictures. In 2002, they divorced.
Tilly's last work as an actress came in an excellent 1995 telefilm, Journey, with Jason Robards and Brenda Fricker. She has written Singing Songs, a novel about an abused girl, but in recent years she has otherwise devoted herself to raising her three children.
On her way into the 1997 Oscars ceremony, Tilly was approached by a reporter, but she cut him off stating, "I have nothing intelligent to say."

Born: 12-Feb-1980
Birthplace: Santa Monica, CA
Gender: Female
Religion: Christian
Race or Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Actor
Nationality: United States
Executive summary: The Addams Family

Brother: Dante Ricci (musician, b. 1974)
Sister: Pia Ricci (b. 1976)
Brother: Rafael Ricci (b. 1971)

Christina Ricci was a child actor in the early 1990s, making commercials for cereal and toys beginning at age 5. Her first film, at age 9, was Mermaids with Cher and Winona Ryder. She made more of an impression as morbid daughter Wednesday in the Addams Family movies, as the manipulative girlfriend of murderous hooker Charlize Theron in Monster, and opposite Johnny Depp's Ichabod Crane in Sleepy Hollow.
She was always a cute, slightly chubby kid, and even played a younger version of Rosie O'Donnell's character in Now and Then. Her co-star in that film, 13-year-old Thora Birch, played a young Melanie Griffith, and you would not have to be a sensitive adolescent to recognize what was being telegraphed about Ricci's future. Ricci has said that by her mid-teens, she felt completely removed from any ordinary semblance of reality. Her parents divorced while she was making Addams Family Values, and she reportedly no longer speaks to her father. In a 1998 interview, when Ricci was 17, she rolled up her sleeve to show the reporter a long series of purple burn marks on her arm. "I wanted to see if I can handle pain... It's sort of an experiment to see if I can take it."
As an adult, Ricci says the anorexia is behind her. She describes herself as "hermit-like" and prefers watching reruns of Law & Order to the glitter of show-biz nightlife. She prefers to work in independent films, finding them better written and more intelligent than Hollywood blockbusters. She says she won't consider scripts that offend her, but the only things that seem to truly offend her are poorly-written scripts and overwrought melodrama. She reportedly turned down the little-girl role in Spielberg's Jurassic Park, and the Kate Winslet role in Titanic.
Early career and commercial success, 1990–1997
A critic for the Bergen Record discovered Ricci at age eight in a school play (The Twelve Days of Christmas) at Edgemont School in Montclair, New Jersey. The critic's son was originally cast in the role, but Ricci got him to hit her and told on him; he lost the role to her as part of his punishment. After this, she became involved in the movie business. She did several commercials starting at the age of six, until she finally got her big screen debut in Richard Benjamin's Mermaids in 1990 (alongside Cher, Bob Hoskins, and Winona Ryder) as Cher's younger daughter. Although much critical and commercial attention went to Ryder, who played Ricci's older sister, the young actress made enough of an impression to land more work; later she appeared in the video of the film's soundtrack "The Shoop Shoop Song". The following year, she starred as the morbidly precocious Wednesday Addams in the hit film adaptation of The Addams Family. The role would help to establish Ricci as an actress known for playing dark, unconventional characters – she went on to play Wednesday again in the film's 1993 sequel, Addams Family Values – which became another box office draw, and more screen time was provided for Ricci's performance as Wednesday, due to her success.
After this, her popularity increased dramatically, and she became in high demand by the mid-1990s. Her next project, Casper, received mixed critical reviews, but was a major success at the box office, being the year's seventh highest grossing film. After Casper, she starred in Now and Then, a coming-of-age film about four 12-year-old girls and their friendship during the 1970s to the 1990s. Now and Then was another box office success, and received favourable comparisons to Stand by Me, being called "the female version" of the film, and Christina was becoming a top box office draw. She also starred in a handful of other films with teenage roles such as Golddiggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain and That Darn Cat.
Later films and continued success, 1998–2005
In 1997, Ricci began to appear in more adult roles, beginning with her role as the troubled, sexually curious Wendy Hood in Ang Lee's critically acclaimed The Ice Storm. Ricci subsequently appeared in films like the independent hit Buffalo '66 (in which she played Vincent Gallo's unwitting abductee-turned-girlfriend), John Waters' Pecker, and Don Roos' The Opposite of Sex (as the acid-tongued, manipulative Dede). For her performance as Dede, Ricci won acclaim and was nominated for a Golden Globe and attained the unofficial title of the Sundance Film Festival's 1998 "It" Girl. Although she missed out on an Academy Award nomination, Entertainment Weekly honored her well-received performance as one of the "Worst Oscar Snubs Ever".
Later films included Sleepy Hollow (alongside Johnny Depp), and Prozac Nation (which featured her first on-screen nude scene). She starred opposite Charlize Theron in the film Monster. During Theron's acceptance speech at the Golden Globes, she acknowledged Ricci, calling her the "unsung hero" of the film. Ricci had to turn down the role of Ronna in Go because of scheduling conflicts; the role eventually went to Sarah Polley. Ricci was turned down four times for the role of Dolores Haze in Lolita, and the role eventually went to Dominique Swain. Ricci was originally slated to play the lead in Ghost World (2001), but by the time it was filmed she was too old for the part and had moved on to other projects. Thora Birch (Ricci's co-star in Now And Then) took over the role. Ricci also turned down a role in Loser. Ricci made a cameo appearance on Beck's successful Guero, providing the voice on "Hell Yes".
In February 2006, Ricci made a guest appearance as a paramedic in the ABC drama Grey's Anatomy, for which she was nominated for an Emmy award. She was a guest star for seven episodes in the last season of Ally McBeal in 2002 as Debbie 'Liza' Bump, a lawyer who worked at Cage & Fish and married Richard Fish in the last episode. It was initially hoped that Ricci and several other noted guest star appearances would boost Ally McBeal's then declining ratings.
On December 4, 1999, she appeared as the guest host on Saturday Night Live. She performed parodies of Britney Spears and the Olsen Twins. During one of her skits, she accidentally punched actress Ana Gasteyer in the face. The skit was a parody of the Sally Jessy Raphael show, in which she played a 13-year-old runaway who sleeps with dogs, and required her to fake-punch Gasteyer, but accidentally ended up really hitting Gasteyer in the eye. Although Ricci initially reacted by putting her hands over her mouth in surprise, she quickly fell back into character.
2006–present
In 2006, Ricci stated that she feels that at 5 ft 1 in (155 cm) she is "too short" to ever be an A-list actress, saying she tends "to look really small on camera". She has also said that she believes that she does not have much control over her career, specifying that she still has to audition for film parts. Her 2007 film, Black Snake Moan received mixed reviews, with rottentomatoes.com tallying an overall score of 66 percent. On the television program Ebert & Roeper, filmmaker Kevin Smith, filling in for Roger Ebert, described the film as the best of the year thus far and called it Ricci's best performance. Richard Roeper also gave the film a "thumb up" rating. The film earned $4 million, putting it in eighth place for the highest earnings in its opening weekend. For her role in Black Snake Moan, Ricci was required to lose several pounds and wore a forty-pound (18 kg) chain during filming. Apart from having to lose weight, Ricci ate only food items without any nutritional value to achieve her unhealthy appearance. Ricci has starred in Penelope, alongside Reese Witherspoon, a modern day fairytale, and in 2008, she played the female lead in The Wachowski Brothers' feature film adaptation of Speed Racer.
In February, along with Samuel L. Jackson, she presented an Award at the 2007 Grammys.
Ricci is currently filming the psychological thriller After.Life in New York with Liam Neeson and Justin Long.
Personal life
Ricci owns her own production company, Blaspheme Films, responsible for Prozac Nation and Pumpkin. Ricci told a magazine in a 2005 interview that she is a Christian. She is on the national board of VOX-Voices for Planned Parenthood. She will also be appearing in national ads for emergency contraception. She supported John Kerry's presidential bid in 2004. Ricci maintains a close friendship with former child star and actress Gaby Hoffmann, with whom she starred in Now and Then and 200 Cigarettes. She is also a friend of Black Snake Moan co-star Samuel L. Jackson.
After making the top of PETA's worst-dressed list and receiving a letter from the animal rights group, Ricci decided to give up wearing fur. Ricci also owns two dogs (The Sheriff Steve Goldburg and Buzz Goldicci).
In 2004, Ricci appeared as the first model in the Spring/ Summer 2005 Louis Vuitton show, and also appeared in advertisements for the popular French fashion house that year.
In April 2007, Ricci became the national spokesperson for RAINN, the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network for the United States, which assists victims of these crimes and promotes programs that help prevent them from occurring. She cited some of her research in Black Snake Moan role as educational on the importance of the issues that RAINN deals with.
She has cited Pulp Fiction, Lord of the Rings, Gangs of New York, and My Own Private Idaho as her favorite films. She drives a Porsche Boxster. Her favorite musicians are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Petty, The Ramones, R.E.M., The White Stripes, Weezer, and the Pixies.
Ricci also has many tattoos: a lion on her right shoulder blade (a reference to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, a favorite novel of hers as a child), a fairy on the inside of her right wrist, praying hands on her left hip (this tattoo was originally a bat), a bouquet of sweetpeas on her lower back, the words "Move or Bleed" on the left side of her ribcage, the name "Jack" on her right thigh for a dead pet, a sparrow on her right breast, and a mermaid on her left ankle.

Sarah Palin is the first woman Governor of Alaska, and as John McCain's running mate in the 2008 presidential election, is the first woman Vice Presidential nomination on the Republican ticket. McCain's choice was sudden and surprising. Palin is an unknown figure on the national stage. Prior to being chosen, she had met McCain once, at a National Governors Association meeting, and conversed briefly with him over telephone calls. The lightest possible vetting occurred -- McCain's team landed in Alaska only one day prior to the announcement that she would be his running mate.
Palin's political views are highly conservative. A creationist, she believes dinosaurs and man walked together on an Earth created 6000 years ago. Palin opposes abortion even in the case of rape or incest, favors abstinence-only sex education, and does not believe humans are responsible for global warming. In 2006, she supported construction of the infamous Alaskan "Bridge to Nowhere", withdrawing her support the following year after the position became politically untenable.
As governor, Palin conducted state business from an unsecured Yahoo! email account, perhaps reasoning that such communication would be more difficult to subpoena or that it could withstand FOIA requests. In August 2008, that account was hacked and portions of its mailbox were posted to a public internet website.
Alaska's Legislative Council conducted an ethics probe over the dismissal of the Alaska Public Safety Commissioner, Walt Monegan, who refused to fire Michael Wooten, a state trooper engaged in a bitter divorce with Governor Palin's sister. The council, consisting of 10 Republicans and 4 Democrats, determined that Palin had personally tried to get Wooten fired, and had abused her power as Governor and violated the state's Executive Branch Ethics Act. Although Palin initially promised full cooperation with the probe, all seven subpoenaed members of Palin's staff refused to honor their subpoenas.
More
Early life and education
Palin was born in Sandpoint, Idaho, the third of four children of Sarah Heath (née Sheeran), a school secretary, and Charles R. Heath, a science teacher and track coach. She is of English, German, and Irish descent. The family moved to Alaska when she was an infant. As a child, she sometimes went moose hunting with her father before school. The family regularly ran 5 km and 10 km races.
Palin attended Wasilla High School in Wasilla, located 44 miles (71 km) north of Anchorage. She was the head of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at the school and the point guard and captain of the school's girls' basketball team that won the Alaska state championship in 1982.
In 1982, she enrolled at Hawaii Pacific College but left after her first semester. She transferred to North Idaho community college, where she spent two semesters as a general studies major. From there, she transferred to the University of Idaho for two semesters. During this time Palin won the Miss Wasilla Pageant, then finished third in the 1984 Miss Alaska pageant, at which she won a college scholarship and the "Miss Congeniality" award. Afterwards, Palin attended the Matanuska-Susitna community college in Alaska for one term. The next year she returned to the University of Idaho where she spent three semesters completing her Bachelor of Science degree in communications-journalism, graduating in 1987.
In 1988, she worked as a sports reporter for KTUU-TV and KTVA-TV in Anchorage, Alaska, and for the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman as a sports reporter. She also helped in her husband’s commercial fishing family business.
City council of Wasilla
See also: Electoral history of Sarah Palin
Palin was elected twice to the city council of Wasilla, in 1992 and 1995. Wasilla city councillors serve three-year terms. Palin says she entered politics because she was concerned that revenue from a new Wasilla sales tax would not be spent wisely.
She ran for Wasilla city council in 1992, at age 28, against John Hartrick, a local telephone company worker, on a promise to bring "my progressive, competitive attitude" to the government. She won 530 votes to John Hartrick’s 310. On the council, she successfully opposed a measure to curtail the hours at Wasilla's bars by two hours, which surprised Hartrick because she was then a member of a church that advocated abstinence from alcohol. After serving on the city council for three years, she ran for reelection against R’nita Rogers in 1995, winning 413 votes to Rogers' 185.
According to Laura Chase of Wasilla, and former Wasilla mayor John Stein, Palin as city councilwoman mentioned to her colleagues in 1995 that she saw the book Daddy's Roommate in the public library and did not think that it belonged there. Chase later became Palin's campaign manager for mayor in 1996, when Palin defeated John Stein, but the two had a falling out and Chase is now a vocal critic of Palin. City of Wasilla Library records indicate that there was never a request for the library to remove the book and that no books were ever censored or banned. The McCain-Palin campaign says that Palin was not advocating censorship.
Palin did not complete her second term on the city council because she ran for mayor in 1996. Throughout her tenure on the city council and the rest of her career, Palin has been a registered Republican.
Mayor of Wasilla
Main article: Mayoralty of Sarah Palin
Palin served two three-year terms (1996–2002) as mayor of Wasilla. At the conclusion of Palin's tenure as mayor in 2002, the town had about 6,300 residents. In 1996, Palin defeated three-term incumbent mayor John Stein, on a platform targeting wasteful spending and high taxes. Stein says that she introduced abortion, gun rights, and term limits as campaign issues. Although the election was a nonpartisan blanket primary, the state Republican Party ran advertisements on her behalf.
First term
Shortly after taking office in October 1996, Palin consolidated the position of museum director and asked for updated resumes and resignation letters from some top officials, including the police chief, public works director, finance director, and librarian. Palin stated this request was to find out their intentions and whether they supported her. She temporarily required department heads to get her approval before talking to reporters, saying that they first needed to become acquainted with her administration's policies. She created the position of city administrator, and reduced her own $68,000 salary by 10%, although by mid-1998 this was reversed by the city council.
According to Wasilla librarian Mary Ellen Emmons, Palin inquired two or three times in October 1996 as to how Emmons would handle any request to remove books from the library. John Stein, the former mayor of Wasilla and Palin's 1996 political opponent, said in September 2008 that Palin's "religious beliefs," and the concerns of some voters about language in the books, motivated her inquiries. In December 1996, Palin said she had no books or other material in mind for removal. No books were removed from the library, and Palin stated in 2006 that she would not allow her personal religious beliefs to dictate her political positions.
Palin fired Emmons and Police Chief Irl Stambaugh in January 1997, stating that she did not feel they fully supported her efforts to govern the city. Following expressions of public support for Emmons and a personal meeting, Palin rescinded the firing of Emmons the next day, stating that her concerns had been alleviated, and adding that Emmons agreed to support Palin's plan to merge the town's library and museum operations. Stambaugh, who along with Emmons had supported Palin's opponent in the election, filed a wrongful termination lawsuit alleging that his termination violated his contract, reflected gender discrimination, and was for political reasons; he said, for example, that he had opposed a bill in the state legislature, supported by Palin, that would "permit concealed weapons in schools and bars." In fact, the bill stated: "A permitee may not carry a concealed handgun into or possess a concealed handgun within [...] or on school grounds." The federal judge who heard the case dismissed Stambaugh's lawsuit, ordering Stambaugh to pay Palin's legal fees, ruling that the mayor had the right to fire city employees for any reason, including a political one, or for no reason at all.
Palin appointed Charles Fannon to replace Stambaugh as police chief. Fannon later opposed a state law preventing police departments from billing rape victims or their health insurance for evidence collection kits. Fannon said that the Wasilla police had sometimes billed victims' health insurance in the past; Stambaugh said that under his tenure the city had paid. An investigation by the St. Petersburg Times found no evidence that Palin had explicitly supported or opposed the policy.
During her first year in office, Palin kept a jar with the names of Wasilla residents on her desk, and once a week she pulled a name from it and picked up the phone; she would ask: "How's the city doing?" Using income generated by a 2% sales tax that was enacted before she was elected to the city council, Palin cut property taxes by 75% and eliminated personal property and business inventory taxes. Tapping municipal bonds, she made improvements to the roads and sewers, and increased funding to the Police Department. She also oversaw new bike paths and procured funding for storm-water treatment to protect freshwater resources. At the same time, she reduced spending on the town museum and blocked construction of a new library and city hall. Palin ran for re-election against Stein in 1999 and won, with 74% of the vote. She was also elected president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors.
Second term
During her second term as mayor, Palin introduced a ballot measure proposing the construction of a municipal sports center to be financed by a 0.5% sales tax increase. The $14.7 million Wasilla Multi-Use Sports Complex was built on time and under budget, but the city spent an additional $1.3 million because of an eminent domain lawsuit caused by the failure to obtain clear title to the property before beginning construction. The city's long-term debt grew from about $1 million to $25 million through voter-approved indebtedness of $15 million for the sports complex, $5.5 million for street projects, and $3 million for water improvement projects. A city council member defended the spending increases as being caused by the city's growth during that time.
Palin also joined with nearby communities in jointly hiring the Anchorage-based lobbying firm of Robertson, Monagle & Eastaugh to lobby for federal funds. The firm secured nearly $8 million in earmarked funds for the Wasilla city government, and another $19 million for other public and private entities in the Wasilla valley area. Earmarks included $500,000 for a youth shelter, $1.9 million for a transportation hub, $900,000 for sewer repairs, and $15 million for a rail project linking Wasilla and the ski resort community of Girdwood. Term limits prevented Palin from running for a third term as mayor in 2002.
Post-mayoral years
In 2002, Palin ran for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor, coming in second to Loren Leman in a five-way Republican primary. The Republican ticket of U.S. Senator Frank Murkowski and Leman won the November 2002 election. When Murkowski resigned from his long-held U.S. Senate seat in December 2002 to become governor, he considered appointing Palin to replace him in the Senate, but chose his daughter, Lisa Murkowski, who was then an Alaskan state representative.
Governor Murkowski appointed Palin to the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. She chaired the Commission beginning in 2003, serving as Ethics Supervisor. Palin resigned in January 2004, protesting what she called the "lack of ethics" of fellow Republican members.
After resigning, Palin filed a formal complaint against Oil and Gas Conservation Commissioner Randy Ruedrich, also the chair of the state Republican Party, accusing him of doing work for the party on public time and of working closely with a company he was supposed to be regulating. She also joined with Democratic legislator Eric Croft to file a complaint against Gregg Renkes, a former Alaskan Attorney General, accusing him of having a financial conflict of interest in negotiating a coal exporting trade agreement, while Renkes was the subject of investigation and after records suggesting a possible conflict of interest had been released to the public. Ruedrich and Renkes both resigned and Ruedrich paid a record $12,000 fine.
From 2003 to June 2005, Palin served as one of three directors of "Ted Stevens Excellence in Public Service, Inc.," a 527 group designed to provide political training for Republican women in Alaska. In 2004, Palin told the Anchorage Daily News that she had decided not to run for the U.S. Senate that year, against the Republican incumbent, Lisa Murkowski, because her teenage son opposed it. Palin said, "How could I be the team mom if I was a U.S. Senator?"
Governor of Alaska
Main article: Governorship of Sarah Palin
Palin visits soldiers of the Alaska National Guard, July 24, 2007.In 2006, running on a clean-government platform, Palin defeated incumbent Governor Frank Murkowski in the Republican gubernatorial primary. Her running mate was State Senator Sean Parnell.
Despite being outspent by her Democratic opponent, she won the gubernatorial election in November, defeating former governor Tony Knowles by a margin of 48.3% to 40.9%. Palin became Alaska's first female governor, and at the age of 42, the youngest governor in Alaskan history. She is the state's first governor to have been born after Alaska achieved U.S. statehood, and the first not to be inaugurated in Juneau; she chose to have the ceremony held in Fairbanks instead. She took office on December 4, 2006, and has been very popular with Alaska voters. Polls taken in 2007 early in her term showed her with a 93% and 89% popularity among all voters, which led some media outlets to call her "the most popular governor in America." A poll taken in late September 2008 after Palin was named to the national Republican ticket showed her popularity in Alaska at 68%.
Palin declared that top priorities of her administration would be resource development, education and workforce development, public health and safety, and transportation and infrastructure development. She had championed ethics reform throughout her election campaign. Her first legislative action after taking office was to push for a bipartisan ethics reform bill. She signed the resulting legislation in July 2007, calling it a "first step", and declaring that she remained determined to clean up Alaska politics.
Palin has sometimes broken with the state Republican establishment. For example, she endorsed Sean Parnell's bid to unseat the state's longtime at-large U.S. Representative, Don Young. Palin has publicly challenged Senator Ted Stevens to come clean about the ongoing federal investigation into his financial dealings. Shortly before his July 2008 indictment, she held a joint news conference with Stevens, described by The Washington Post as needed "to make clear she had not abandoned him politically."
Palin promoted oil and natural gas resource development in Alaska, including in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). Proposals to drill for oil in ANWR have been the subject of a national debate.
In 2006, Palin obtained a passport and in 2007 traveled for the first time outside of North America on a trip to Kuwait. There she visited the Khabari Alawazem Crossing at the Kuwait–Iraq border and met with members of the Alaska National Guard at several bases. On her return trip to the U.S., she visited injured soldiers in Germany.
Budget, spending, and federal funds
In June 2007, Palin signed a record $6.6 billion operating budget into law. At the same time, she used her veto power to make the second-largest cuts of the construction budget in state history. The $237 million in cuts represented over 300 local projects, and reduced the construction budget to $1.6 billion. In 2008, Palin vetoed $286 million, cutting or reducing funding for 350 projects from the FY09 capital budget.
Palin followed through on a campaign promise to sell the Westwind II jet, a purchase made by the Murkowski administration for $2.7 million in 2005 against the wishes of the legislature. In August 2007, the jet was listed on eBay, but the sale fell through, and the plane was later sold for $2.1 million through a private brokerage firm.
Expense reimbursements
Palin lives in Juneau during the legislative session and lives in Wasilla and works out of offices in Anchorage the rest of the year. Since the office in Anchorage is far from Juneau, while she works there, state officials say she is legally entitled to a $58 per diem travel allowance, which she has taken (a total of $16,951), and to reimbursement for hotels, which she has not, choosing instead to drive about 50 miles to her home in Wasilla. She also chose not to use the former governor's private chef. Democrats criticized Palin for taking the per diem and $43,490 in travel expenses for the times her family accompanied her on state business. In response, the governor's staffers said that these practices were in line with state policy, that Palin's gubernatorial expenses are 80% below those of her predecessor, Frank Murkowski, and that "many of the hundreds of invitations Palin receives include requests for her to bring her family, placing the definition of 'state business' with the party extending the invitation."
Federal funding
In her State of the State Address on January 17, 2008, Palin declared that the people of Alaska "can and must continue to develop our economy, because we cannot and must not rely so heavily on federal government [funding]." Alaska's federal congressional representatives cut back on pork-barrel project requests during Palin's time as governor; despite this, in 2008 Alaska was still the largest per-capita recipient of federal earmarks, requesting nearly $750 million in special federal spending over a period of two years.
While there is no sales tax or income tax in Alaska, state revenues doubled to $10 billion in 2008, For the 2009 budget, Palin gave a list of 31 proposed federal earmarks or requests for funding, totaling $197 million, to Alaska Senator Ted Stevens. Palin’s decreasing support for federal funding has been a leading source of friction between herself and the state's congressional delegation; Palin has requested less in federal funding each year than her predecessor Frank Murkowski requested in his last year.
Bridge to Nowhere and Knik Arm Bridge

See also: Use of "Bridge to Nowhere" in 2008 campaign
In 2005, before Palin was elected governor, a $442-million earmark for constructing two Alaska bridges was passed in the U.S. Senate as part of an omnibus spending bill. The Gravina Island Bridge was proposed to connect Ketchikan to sparsely populated Gravina Island where an international airport serves over 200,000 passengers per year and the existing ferry carries 400,000 passengers per year. The Knik Arm Bridge (also known as "Don Young's Way" after Alaska's Congressman Don Young) was proposed to provide an alternate link between heavily-populated Anchorage and Wasilla. The Gravina Island Bridge proposal became nicknamed the "Bridge to Nowhere" because of the island's population of 50. More rarely, the term "Bridges to Nowhere" has been applied to both bridge proposals. Critics of the two bridge proposals gave them national attention as symbols of pork-barrel spending, and Congress responded to the intense criticism by stripping the earmark from the bill before final passage in November 2005 and instead giving the $442 million to Alaska as transportation money with no strings attached
In 2006, Palin ran for governor with a "build-the-bridge" plank in her platform, saying she would "not allow the spinmeisters to turn this project [...] into something that's so negative." Palin criticized the use of the word "nowhere" as insulting to local residents and urged speedy work on building the infrastructure "while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist."
As governor, however, Palin canceled the Gravina Island Bridge in September 2007, saying that Congress had "little interest in spending any more money" due to what she called "inaccurate portrayals of the projects." She opted not to return the $442 million in federal transportation funds. Palin did maintain her support for a controversial highway on the bridgeless Gravina Island, committing $25 million in federal funds to the project saying through her spokesperson that it would open territory for development. Alaska state officials said if the money were not used for the road it would have had to have been returned to the federal government. She also directed state officials to explore other ways to provide access to the island.
Later, as a vice-presidential candidate, emphasizing her efforts to end abuses of "earmark" spending, Palin characterized her position as having told Congress "thanks, but no thanks, on that bridge to nowhere." This angered many Alaskans in Ketchikan, who said that the claim was false and a betrayal of Palin's previous support for their community. Meanwhile, some critics complained that this statement was misleading, since she had repeatedly expressed support for the spending project and even kept the Federal money after the project was canceled. Palin continues to support the Knik Arm project.
Gas pipeline
See also: Alaska Gas Pipeline
In August 2008, Palin signed a bill authorizing the State of Alaska to award TransCanada Pipelines — the sole bidder to meet the state's requirements — a license to build and operate a pipeline to transport natural gas from the North Slope to the Continental United States through Canada. The governor also pledged $500 million in seed money to support the project. It is estimated that the project will cost $26 billion. Newsweek described the project as "the principal achievement of Sarah Palin's term as Alaska's governor," but it faces legal challenges from Canadian First Nations (aboriginal peoples).
Predator Control
See also: Palin's Predator control policy
In 2007, Palin supported a 2003 Alaska Department of Fish and Game policy allowing the hunting of wolves from the air as part of a predator control program intended to increase moose and caribou populations for subsistence-food gatherers and other hunters. In March 2007, Palin's office announced that a bounty of $150 per wolf would be paid to the 180 volunteer pilots and gunners, to offset fuel costs. Wildlife activists sued the state, and a state judge declared the bounty illegal on the basis that a bounty would have to be offered by the Board of Game and not by the Department of Fish and Game.
Public Safety Commissioner dismissal
Main article: Alaska Public Safety Commissioner dismissal
Palin dismissed Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan on July 11, 2008, citing performance-related issues, such as not being "a team player on budgeting issues." Monegan said that he had resisted persistent pressure from the Governor, her husband, and her staff, including State Attorney General Talis Colberg, to fire Palin’s ex-brother-in-law, state trooper Mike Wooten; Wooten was involved in a child custody battle with Palin’s sister that included an alleged death threat against Palin's father. Monegan stated he learned an internal investigation had found all but two of the allegations to be unsubstantiated, and Wooten had been disciplined for the others. He told the Palins that there was nothing he could do because the matter was closed. When contacted by the press for comment, Monegan first acknowledged pressure to fire Wooten but said that he could not be certain that his own firing was connected to that issue; he later asserted that the dispute over Wooten was a major reason for his firing. Palin stated on July 17 that Monegan was not pressured to fire Wooten, nor dismissed for not doing so. Monegan's replacement resigned on July 25, amid charges of sexual harassment in his previous job.

Aniston was born in Sherman Oaks, California, and grew up in New York City. She is the daughter of the Greek-American actor John Aniston (originally Yannis Anastassakis) and actress Nancy Dow. Aniston has two half-brothers, John Melick and Alex Aniston. Aniston's father was born on the island of Crete, while her maternal grandfather, Gordon McLean Dow, was of Scottish and English descent, and her maternal grandmother, Louise Grieco, was of Italian ancestry. Aniston's godfather was the late Greek American actor Telly Savalas, her father's best friend. Aniston spent part of her childhood in Greece, but most of it in New York City, where her father appeared in the soap operas Love of Life and Search for Tomorrow. In 1985, the family moved to Los Angeles, where Aniston's father starred on the soap opera Days of our Lives as Victor Kiriakis. Aniston graduated from Manhattan's Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. Among her high school friends was future gay rights activist Chastity Bono. Aniston's desire to become an actress grew as she worked in Off-Broadway productions such as For Dear Life and Dancing on Checker's Grave. During this time, she supported herself with several part-time jobs, including working as a telemarketer and bike messenger.
Career
Aniston moved to Hollywood and was cast in her first television role in 1990, starring as a regular on the short-lived series Molloy and in the TV movie Camp Cucamonga. She also co-starred in Ferris Bueller, a television adaptation of the 1986 hit movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, the same year; the series, however, was quickly canceled. Aniston then appeared in two more failed television comedy shows, The Edge and Muddling Through, and guest-starred on Quantum Leap, Herman's Head, Burke's Law, on South Park in episode Rainforest Schmainforest. After the string of cancelled shows, along with her appearance in the critically derided 1993 horror film, Leprechaun, Aniston considered giving up acting.
Aniston's plans changed, however, after auditioning for Friends, a sitcom that was set to debut on NBC's 1994-1995 fall line-up. The producers of the show originally wanted Aniston to audition for the role of Monica Geller, but she persuaded them that she was better suited for the role of Rachel Green. She was cast in the role and played the character from 1994 until the show ended in 2004.
The program was hugely successful and Aniston, along with her co-stars, gained wide renown among television viewers. Her hairstyle at the time, which became known as the "Rachel", was widely copied. Aniston received a salary of one million dollars per episode for the last two seasons of Friends, as well as five Emmy nominations, including a win for "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series".
According to the Guinness World Book of Records (2005), Aniston (along with her female costars) became the highest paid TV actress of all time with her $1 million-per-episode paycheck for the tenth season of Friends.
Aniston has starred in several theatrical films, including Office Space and Picture Perfect (1997) .
She gained the most critical acclaim for her role in the low-budget 2002 film, The Good Girl, directed by Miguel Arteta, playing an unglamorous cashier in a small town. The film opened in relatively few theaters - under 700 in total - taking $14M in the U.S. box office.
Jennifer's biggest box office success was her appearance in 2003's Bruce Almighty, in which she played the girlfriend of title character (Jim Carrey); the film grossed $243M at the United States box office and almost twice that worldwide. Aniston's 2004 film, Along Came Polly (opposite Ben Stiller), also did well at the box office after opening at the #1 spot.
In late 2005, Aniston headlined two major studio films, Derailed and Rumor Has It, both of which performed fairly at the box office, grossing over $36 million each despite little support from critics.
In 2006, Aniston appeared in the low-budget drama, Friends with Money, which was first shown at the Cannes Film Festival, received a limited release, and grossed over $13 million. Aniston's next film, The Break-Up, which was released on June 2, grossed approximately $39.17 million during its opening weekend, despite lukewarm reviews. It has currently grossed over $118 million at the U.S. box office and over $203 million worldwide.
In addition to acting, Aniston has also directed a hospital emergency room-set short film named Room 10, starring Robin Wright Penn and Kris Kristofferson; Aniston has noted that she was inspired to direct by actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who directed a short film in 2006.
Forbes listed Aniston as the 10th richest woman in the entertainment industry for the year 2007. She is behind such powerhouses as Oprah Winfrey, J. K. Rowling, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez and is ahead of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and the Olsen twins. Aniston's net worth is approximately $110 million. Aniston was also included in the annual Star Salary Top 10 of trade magazine The Hollywood Reporter for 2006. According to Forbes in October 2007, Aniston was the top-selling celebrity face of the entertainment industry.
Aniston has been signed to play a role in the up-coming thriller Wanted along with Meryl Streep and Martin Hernandez.
Personal life
Aniston has previously dated musician Adam Duritz, actor Paul Rudd and was engaged to actor Tate Donovan. Her high-profile relationship with actor Brad Pitt was frequently publicized in the press. She married Pitt on July 29, 2000, in a lavish Malibu wedding. Though their marriage was, for years, considered the rare Hollywood success, rumors of trouble began circulating, and the Pitts announced their separation on January 7, 2005. As Pitt's marriage to Jennifer drew to a close, he and actress Angelina Jolie were involved in a well-publicized Hollywood scandal in which Jolie was often painted as the "other woman," largely due to their chemistry during the filming of the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith. While Jolie and Pitt both denied any claims of adultery, speculations continued to mount throughout 2004 and early 2005. Aniston and Pitt later separated on January 7, 2005, and Aniston officially filed for divorce on March 25, 2005. The divorce was finalized on October 2, 2005.
Media reports have speculated that the split was due to Aniston's refusal to have children. Aniston vehemently denied this later on in an August 2005 Vanity Fair interview, stating, "I've never in my life said I didn't want to have children... I've always wanted to have children, and I would never give up that experience for a career." (Also, in the same article, she has said that because of the divorce, she reached out to her mother, from whom she was estranged for nearly a decade. They initially became estranged when Nancy talked about Jennifer on a tv show and later wrote a book titled "From Mother and Daughter to Friends: A Memoir" (1999).
She has also stated that the death of her longtime therapist, whose work helped to make the separation from Pitt easier, more than a year ago was "devastating." Summing up her relationship with Pitt, Aniston has said that their relationship, which she does not regret, was "seven very intense years together" and that "it was a beautiful, complicated relationship."
Since the couple's divorce, Aniston has been romantically linked with actor Vince Vaughn. In August of 2006, Aniston denied rumors that the two were engaged or that Vaughn had proposed. In October 2006, gossip magazine Us Weekly quoted sources from Vaughn that the couple had split. "Jen lives in a crazy crazy world with all the press. It's just not his world." In December 2006, reps for both Aniston and Vaughn confirmed that they had indeed split up a few weeks before when Aniston visited Vaughn in London.
Courteney Cox Arquette is Aniston's best friend. In 2007, Aniston was invited to guest star in an episode of Arquette's new television show Dirt. Aniston played Arquette's snobby rival Tina Harrod on March 27. Jennifer Aniston is also the godmother of Courtney's child, Coco.
She has had two septoplastys to thin her deviated septum: one incorrectly done in 1994 and one in early 2007. This is a simple medical procedure which helps cure the common condition which can lead to breathing difficulty and trouble sleeping. Tabloids falsely reported this as a "nose job."

Shelly Leonor Martinez is an Mexican-American model, professional wrestler and valet. She is also known for her work with World Wrestling Entertainment on its ECW brand under the ring name Ariel and for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling under the ring name Salinas as valet to the Latin American Xchange (LAX).
Career
Early career
Martinez was trained and first wrestled in Southern California under the ring name Desire, appearing in several independent promotions such as Revolution Pro Wrestling, Empire Wrestling Federation and Ultimate Pro Wrestling where she worked as the storyline sister of Kyra (WWE's Melina). While in UPW, she also competed under the name Halloween Barbie.. She also had a run in Women's Extreme Wrestling, where she played the (kayfabe) cousin of Mercedes Martinez.
World Wrestling Entertainment (2005-2007)
Ohio Valley Wrestling
In April 2005, Martinez signed a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). By July of that year she was placed in their primary developmental territory, Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), for further training. Her first role there had her, along with Beth Phoenix, acting as co-manager for Aaron Stevens.
Martinez defeated Mickie James to win her debut singles match at an OVW house show on October 29. From there she engaged in numerous feuds with the likes of Beth Phoenix, Serena, Sosay, and Fuji Cakes. In late December, Martinez and Phoenix revived their "co-manager" gimmick to accompany Aaron Stevens to the ring at several SmackDown! house shows for tryout matches. They also appeared together on the January 27, 2006 episode of WWE Heat as part of The Heart Throbs (Romeo Roselli and Antonio Thomas) "Throb-o-Meter" section, dancing in the ring with the team and teasing a kiss, before being interrupted by Trevor Murdoch.
At the February 22, 2006 OVW TV Tapings, Shelly came to ringside and attacked Sosay during an Elijah Burke vs. Robbie Dawber match. Around this time she started a gimmick of being obsessed with Paul Burchill, who was using a pirate gimmick on SmackDown!. On the May 6, 2006 edition of WWE Velocity, Martinez appeared as Burchill's valet, Shelly, for his match against Road Warrior Animal, but before she could become a permanent fixture the entire gimmick was dropped. Returning to OVW, she became involved in Seth Skyfire's ongoing feud with Mike "The Miz" Mizanin and Roni Jonah.
ECW brand
When the ECW brand was launched Martinez joined on as Ariel, a tarot reading fortune teller. She was joined by Kevin Thorn, a vampire character who had previously been seen stalking ECW arenas, and announced that she "saw a future that held blood" followed by Thorn spitting blood at the camera. From there, she began acting as a valet for Thorn, joining him at ringside for his matches and kissing him during them. On September 19, she got into her first ECW catfight, rumbling with Francine who'd accompanied Balls Mahoney to ringside for a match against Thorn. Ariel made her (ECW) in-ring debut against Francine on September 26 in an "Extreme Catfight", which went to a no-contest due to interference from both Thorn and Mahoney. The building feud was soon dropped when Francine was released from WWE just weeks later. When the ECW brand held its first pay per view, December to Dismember, Ariel and Thorn defeated Kelly Kelly and Mike Knox in a mixed tag team match. The next Tuesday on ECW, Ariel lost to Kelly in a one on one match when Kelly surprised her with a rollup. This would be her final wrestling match. In February 2007, Ariel along with Kevin Thorn joined the New Breed stable and engaged in a feud with their ECW Original foes. On the May 1, 2007 edition of ECW on Sci-Fi, Kevin Thorn and Ariel quit from The New Breed after Elijah Burke yelled at them for losing to CM Punk earlier in the night.
On May 18, 2007 Martinez was released from her WWE contract.
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (2007-2008)
At Bound for Glory, Shelly participated in a Knockout Gauntlet battle royal to crown the first TNA Knockout Champion. Shortly there after, Martinez began to appear as a masked member of the LAX, interfering in their matches to help them gain victories leading to an issue with The Rock 'n Rave Infection valet Christy Hemme, who believed she was a man attacking women, an infraction in TNA. However, at TNA Final Resolution, Martinez unveiled herself after attacking Hemme again, clearing up a possible man-on-woman violence issue. On the following edition of Impact!, Homicide and Hernandez gave her the name Salinas- likely a reference to TNA president Dixie Carter's husband Serg Salinas. She made her in ring debut as Salinas in a one on one match against Awesome Kong and lost after a sitting powerbomb.
Salinas participated at Lockdown in the first ever "Queen of the Cage" match, which was won by Roxxi Laveaux. She then participated at Sacrifice in the first ever Knockouts "Makeover Battle Royal", which was won by Gail Kim. A few weeks later Salinas lost a match against Awesome Kong and after the match she was doubled teamed by Awesome Kong, Velvet Sky and Angelina Love
At No Surrender Salinas was attacked off camera by Jacqueline in the bathroom and was sent to the hospital. In reality Martinez had stated on her official website that she has quit TNA to shoot for an Italian thriller movie.
World Wide Women Wrestling (2008- present)
Martinez debuted for the World Wide Women Wrestling promotion (WWWW) under her real name and went on to become their first World Champion
Extreme Wrestling Entertainment
Martinez won a divas battle royal for the EWE Womens title.
Other media
During her time in California, Martinez posed nude for a private pornography company which later leaked on the internet. She also starred in a pin-up film titled American Pinups Vol. 2.
She also starred in the independent supernatural horror movie Dead Things.
Porn director Jewel De'Nyle stated in August 2007 that she is working on trying to work with Martinez in a Bettie Page type solo film. "I might get Shelly Martinez to do a solo Bettie Page fetish type movie just starring her doing different set ups with stockings, boots, heels, whips etc." The DVD, entitled The Notorious Jewel De'Nyle & Shelly Martinez, an all-girl spanking and softcore bondage video, was released on February 11, 2008.
She was a contestant on the reality show The Search for the Next Elvira, which debuted October 13, 2007 on Fox Reality. She was eliminated on the second show.
Shelly currently has one action figure produced. It is her as Ariel and is available through the Jakks Pacific, ECW Series 2 collection.
Shelly is shown in the beginning of the Mötley Crüe music video for Saints of Los Angeles.
Personal life
She also has numerous tattoos: one on each wrist, one on each ankle, a sacred heart with a pair of dice below her navel, a 1940's Alberto Vargas pin up girl on her lower back, and a set of cards surrounded by flames and hearts that reads "Queen Of Hearts" on her upper right arm, and a Mexican style female skull with the word "Punkin" under it between her shoulder blades, in dedication to her sister, who Shelly calls "Punkin".

Born: February 6, 1970
Location: Los Angeles, California
Birth name: Tia
Measurements: 36C-22-26
Height: 5 ft 3 in
Weight: 93 lb
Eye colour: Brown
Hair colour: Black
Ethnicity: Korean and Hawaiian
Alias(es): Tia Son, Kitty Young, Kitty Yun, Ashley Young, Ashley Yung, Zana Que, Kathy Yung, Zana Sun, and Zana Suhn
Kitty Yung is the pseudonym of an American pornographic actress of Korean and Hawaiian descent, a fact she states has helped her during her career.
She describes herself as a tomboy during her early life, enjoying sports and outdoor activities. She initially worked as an account manager, and in 1993 became involved in the adult film industry after answering an ad in the LA Weekly for lingerie modeling.
During her first year and a half in the industry, she appeared with natural breasts that had the unusual feature of inverted nipples that popped outward when she was sexually excited. Although originally reluctant to have breast implants, she did so in 1994, at the encouragement of her female coworkers, who told her it would lead to more box covers and magazine layouts. She also had her eyes surgically reshaped at about the same time.
Whether Yung looked better before or after surgery is slightly controversial, with some appreciating her post-surgery appearance, but with others criticizing her implants and eye surgery, preferring the pre-surgery, natural appearance she displayed in her earlier films. Excalibur Films writes, "Although she may have been more naturally alluring before the surgery, it did seem to add a new intensity to her sexual performances...", while a 1997 Usenet post opines, "She was so nubile back in the pre op days – the surgery ruined her."
During her career from 1993-1995, she performed in over 100 films, often Asian-themed, and marked by copious amounts of anal sex, double and triple penetrations, and "Wobbly H's", often without condoms. She performed with men more often than with women and avoided urolagnia scenes, describing them as "too humiliating". After two years, she quit the film industry in 1995, because of declining interest and fear of AIDS, although she had not contracted it. She moved to Las Vegas in 1996, citing a dislike for LA's "traffic, smog, earthquakes, people's attitudes, and the dirty ocean", and continued working as an erotic dancer.
After leaving the adult film industry, she started the website Ediblefantasies.com, about "food and fantasy that becomes sexual reality". The site closed down in October 2000.
After being away for about seven years, she returned to the film industry in the early-2000s and starred in several 2002 releases, including the fourth installment of Hustler's famous Asian Fever series, Elegant Angel's Please Play Hard With Me, and Video Team's No Man's Land: Asian Edition 3, in all of which she was credited as her alternate name Tia Son.
She states that one of her favorite co-stars is Peter North, and has performed with controversial producer Max Hardcore, describing him as "actually a nice guy. Just kind of kinky." She has said that she is bisexual; when asked if she enjoys women off-screen, Yung's reply was "A little, just for leisure."
Kitty Yung is often confused with Kitty Jung, another adult film star.

Sara Lynn Evans is an American country singer-songwriter who has had numerous top 10 hits.
Sara Evans was one of the few traditional-styled singers to emerge from Nashville in the late 1990s, according to Allmusic. Since emerging from the late-90s, Evans has become one of Country music's most popular female vocalists, acquiring a few No. 1 Country hits and Gold and Platinum-certified albums by the RIAA, like 2004's Restless and 2005's Real Fine Place. Her 2000 album, Born to Fly was certified Double-Platinum.
Early life & the rise to fame
Sara Lynn Evans was born in Boonville, Missouri in 1971, and is of English and Irish descent. She was raised on a farm, and was the eldest girl of seven children. Music was a part of her life at an early age; by five she was singing every weekend in her family's band. At age eight, she was struck by an automobile in front of the family home, and both her legs suffered multiple fractures. Recuperating for months in a wheelchair, she continued singing to help pay her medical bills. When she was 16, she began performing at a nightclub near Columbia, Missouri, a gig that lasted two years.
Evans moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1991, aspiring to become a Country music artist, where she met fellow musician, Craig Schelske. She then left Nashville with Schelske in 1992, when they moved to Oregon. After the couple married in 1993, Evans returned to Nashville in 1995, where Evans began recording demos . Nashville songwriter Harlan Howard was impressed by Evans' demo of his song "Tiger by the Tail". Howard decided to help Evans' music career, which eventually led to a signed contract with the RCA Nashville.
In 1997, Evans released her first album under RCA, Three Chords and the Truth. Critics praised the album for returning to traditional country and included it in many of their year's "top 10" lists. The album included a cover version of older Country song, Patsy Cline's "Imagine That", which originally reached No. 21 for Cline on the Country charts in 1962. However, the album did not catch on with country radio at the time, and none of the three singles made the top 40. It would be another year before Evans gained full popularity. In 1998 Evans released her second album, No Place That Far. Critics slammed her on choosing a more pop-country sound. Her first single, "Cryin' Game", hardly made a ripple on the charts, peaking outside Country's Top 40. However, it was her next single, "No Place That Far", a duet with Vince Gill, that brought Evans massive success, reaching No. 1 on the Country charts, as well reaching the Billboard Hot 100 Top 40, Evans' first major hit. Because of the success the album gained, Evans' album was certifed "Gold" by the RIAA that year.
Breakthrough: The Born to Fly and Restless albums
In 2000, Evans worked on a third album to be released later that year. The title of the album, Born to Fly was released to stores on October 10, 2000, and later became another major-selling album. She insisted on hiring Seattle-based rock drummer Matt Chamberlain (The Wallflowers, Edie Brickell), who brought a slightly different sound to her music. The album became Evans' first album to receive a "Platinum" rating by the RIAA, and spawned four Country hits, including the title track ("Born to Fly") which was the first single released from the album, reaching the No. 1 spot on the Country charts, Evans' first No. 1 as a solo artist. Hits continued from the album all the way into 2002. After "Born to Fly", the second single, "I Could Not Ask for More" was released in 2001, the Country version of Edwin McCain's big Pop-Rock hit from the year before. Evans' version reached No. 2 on the Country charts and was a No. 35 Pop hit, ironically an even bigger Pop hit than McCain's version on Billboard's Hot 100 (McCain's version reached No. 37). In 2002, the songs continued to be released from the album, "Saints and Angels" and "I Keep Looking" were the last two singles released from the album. "I Keep Looking" reached No. 5 and "Saints and Angels" reached No. 16 respectively. In 2004, the Born to Fly album was officially certified 2x Platinum by the RIAA.
In 2001, Evans was the most-nominated artist at the Country Music Association awards with seven nominations overall, and she won her first CMA award when "Born to Fly" won the award for Video of the Year, her first major award from Country music.
In 2003, Evans recorded a long-awaited fourth album, which was titled Restless. The album was released August 19, 2003 to stores. The first single released from the album in 2003, "Back Seat of a Greyhound Bus" was a Top 20 Country hit, reaching No. 16 on the Hot Country Songs list that year, but it did not hit the Billboard Hot 100, peaking outside it on the Bubbling Hot 100. Despite the album's first single not reaching the Top 10, the album still sold farely well, debuting at No. 3 on the "Top Country Albums" list and the No. 20 on the "Billboard 200" list, and sold over 40,000 copies within its first week. However it was the album's next single, "Perfect" that broke Country's Top 10, eventually peaking in the top 5 at No. 2, barely missing Country's top spot. The third and last single from the album, "Suds in the Bucket", released in late 2004, was the album's most successful single, reaching the No. 1 spot and was also a Top 40 Pop hit, reaching No. 33. "Suds in the Bucket" was Evans' first ever Gold-certified single by the RIAA. Restless also received a nomination by the Academy of Country Music in the Spring of 2005.
The Success of the Real Fine Place album & career today
After 2003's Restless album, Evans re-emerged with a fifth studio album titled Real Fine Place released October 4, 2005. The album's lead single, "A Real Fine Place to Start" was the album's first single, reaching No. 1 on the Country charts in 2005, as well as reaching the Pop Top 40 at No. 38. The single marked the first time Evans charted on Billboard's "Pop 100" and "Hot Digital Songs" chart, reaching No. 67 and No. 62 respectively. "A Real Fine Place" was another Gold-certified single by the RIAA. The album, sold 130, 000 copies within its first week, becoming Evans' first album to reach the No. 1 spot on the "Top Country Albums" chart, while also becoming her most successful album on the "Billboard 200" to date, reaching No. 3. The album sold three times more copies than her previous album had done. On December 6, 2005, Evans released the compilation album, Feels Like Home through Cracker Barrel stores. The album contains remixes of some of her most popular songs, including a live version of "Born to Fly" and an acoustic version of "No Place That Far". In 2005's the album's follow-up single "Cheatin'" was a top 10 Country hit, peaking at No. 9 there. The third single released from the album "Coalmine" was the least successful single, just about breaking Billboard's Country Top 40 chart in early 2006.
In 2006, R&R announced Evans as the "Female Vocalist of the Year" in its 2006 Readers' Poll. In spring 2006, Evans released Always There through Hallmark stores for Mothers' Day. The album has six of her favorite already-released songs, including a live version of "Suds in the Bucket" and an acoustic version of "Born to Fly." Two new songs are on the disc: "You Ought to Know by Now" and "Brooklyn & Austin." In 2006, the last significant single from the Real Fine Place album was released titled, "You'll Always Be My Baby", which was a Top 15 Country hit, peaking at No. 13 on the Country charts, but missing Billboard's Hot 100, reaching its peak position on the Bubbling Hot 100 at No. 105. An album cut released from the album in 2006, "Missing Missouri" reached No. 52 on the Country charts that year. Since its release, Real Fine Place is currently Evans' biggest-selling album. On May 23, 2006, Evans competed and performed at the 2006 ACM awards show in Las Vegas, where she won her first ACM for the "Top Female Vocalist". Evans also became a spokesperson for National Eating Disorders Association, and has spoken out widely on this subject, as she has been personally affected by it. She also hosted a charity event, Fashion for Every Body, which featured a fashion show, silent auction and performance by Evans.
On October 9, 2007, Evans released her first Greatest Hits collection. The compilation features four new songs, three of which have already been released to radio. Sara released the gift book "You'll Always Be My Baby" (based on her song). It was written by Evans, Tony Martin and Tom Shapiro. It was announced on Monday, October 15, 2007, that Evans will host with LeAnn Rimes the 41st annual CMA Awards show, on 7th of November, 2007.
Evans has also showed support in the 2008 Presidential race for Texas Congressman Ron Paul and was the headliner at his "Rally For The Republic" on September 2, 2008 in Minneapolis, MN. Held the same day as the Republican National Convention in neighboring St. Paul.
The single "Low" (sung by Sara Evans) was released to radio on September 29, 2008 to promote Billy: The Early Years (for the movie released October 10th). The song is featured on the movie's soundtrack which was released on October 7, 2008, and also includes other big name country artists. In a recent online review of "Low", The reviewer (Kevin J. Coyne of Country Universe) gave the song an "A" and was delighted to find that the song uses acoustic instruments. He also stated that it was "a more mature "Born to Fly".
"Low" debuted on the Hot Country Songs chart at #59 on October 12, 2008.
A book called "Sweet By and By" written by Evans, and author Rachel Hauck, will be released sometime in 2009.
Sara Evans is currently working on her sixth studio album. The album is expected for a 2009 release. Sara stated in a video posting to her fan club on December 23rd, that she is working with her brother Matt Evans and producer Nathan Chapman on her next album. The first single is expected sometime Spring 2009.
Television Work
In April 2004, Evans appeared as a special guest on "Nashville Star". She appeared on the game show "Password" in June 2008.
She also appeared on the Jeff Foxworthy show.

Evans launched a new fan web site to provide behind-the-scenes material from her participation on the program. Evans was the first country music singer to ever participate in the show. However, then had to leave the show in October, originally citing personal reasons. However, it was later discovered Evans left due to a divorce.
Sara recently made an appearance judging on HGTV Design Star. Sara chose which of two redesigned rooms at the Gaylord Perry Opryland Resort & Convention Center was most like her own style.
In October, 2008, Evans also hosted a charity skating fundraiser, "Skating For Life". Olympic skaters skated to Evans' songs.

Controversies
Since divorcing from her now ex-husband, Evans has been the subject of numerous controversies. On October 12, 2006, Evans left Dancing with the Stars, citing personal reasons. On October 13, it was revealed that Evans had filed for divorce from her husband of thirteen years, Craig Schelske. An ex-nanny of Evans', Alison Clinton Lee, has sued her for three million dollars, claiming that Evans has smeared her name by including it in her divorce papers from husband Craig Schelske, as one of the many women Evans claims he had affairs with. Divorce documents filed in Williamson County, Tennessee by Evans' estranged husband, Craig Schelske, accuse the singer of having close to a dozen affairs. The list includes singer/songwriter Richard Marx, country star Kenny Chesney, Dancing with the Stars partner Tony Dovolani, various members of Evans' band, and four of the five members of the rock band 3 Doors Down. Marx's former manager and Chesney's publicist have refused to comment on this issue.
In reference to the recent allegations of affairs with Evans, Kirt Webster a spokesman for the rock band 3 Doors Down, stated that the accusations are ludicrous and untrue, and that "They are saddened by what she's going through" On September 28, 2007, the divorce between Evans and Craig Schelske became final. Evans will pay him a minimum of $500,000 in alimony over a ten-year period. Evans was awarded custody of her three children with visitation rights to Schelske.

AKA Natalie Jane Imbruglia
Born: 4-Feb-1975
Birthplace: Berkleyvale, New South Wales, Australia
Gender: Female
Race or Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Singer/Songwriter
Nationality: Australia
Executive summary: Torn
Secretly married Daniel Johns, of Australian rock band Silverchair.
Boyfriend: Robbie Williams (musician, ex-)
Husband: Daniel Johns (musician, Silverchair, m. 31-Dec-2003)
Natalie Jane Imbruglia is an Australian singer-songwriter, model and actress.
In the early 1990s, Imbruglia was known to audiences as Beth Brennan Willis in the popular Australian soap Neighbours. Two years after leaving the program, Natalie launched a singing career with the international hit, "Torn". The subsequent debut album Left of the Middle (1997) sold 7 million copies worldwide. While following releases, White Lilies Island (2001) and Counting Down the Days (2005), have been unable to match the commercial success of her debut, the latter became her first UK #1, and all are critically acclaimed. To date she has sold more than 10 million records worldwide.
Biography
Second of the four daughters to a Sicilian (Lipari) father and an Australian mother, Imbruglia grew up on the Central Coast, north of Sydney, south of Newcastle. Imbruglia studied ballet, tap, and highland dancing as a child, hoping to make a career out of it. She also sang in shopping malls and in school performances. At 14 her dance instructor encouraged her to sing with an all girl group but once at the audition, the managers saw that the strikingly pretty youngster with a beautiful voice could make it on her own. They wanted to sign her as a solo act but she refused. "They were like 'we're going to make you a star...' Even at that age you couldn't talk to me like that. I was like 'see you later..'"
Early career
Imbruglia auditioned for Australian TV commercials and appeared in spots for Coke and the popular Australian snack Twisties. By age 16, she left high school to start a career in acting. She soon obtained the chance to play a regular role on the Australian soap opera, Neighbours at the age of 16 1/2. Neighbours has also launched the careers of many other successful Australian female artists such as Kylie Minogue, Holly Valance, Delta Goodrem and Natalie Bassingthwaighte.
By the end of her second year, she left the show to move to London, immersing herself in the city's club scene. Refused a work permit, within a year she became bankrupt. This forced her to go back to her passion of singing, something which she had been putting off because she thought everyone would laugh at her because she'd been on Neighbours. Her effort paid off with a helping hand Roselyn Della Sabina got her signed to BMG Publishing. Together Roselyn and Natalie came up with a demo of the song "Torn" which greatly impressed RCA Records and got her a record contract.
Music
Natalie Imbruglia is one of the most successful Australian-born female singers. She has received an MTV Award for Best New Artist in 1998, and 3 constitutive Grammy Award nominations in 1999. She has sold over 9 million albums worldwide. She was ranked #11 on Rock on the Net's list of single artists of the year in 1998, and #76 in 2001. Natalie Imbruglia has tied up her 4-album record deal with BMG after the delivery of her compilation album Glorious: The Singles 1997-2007.
"Torn" (1997)
Imbruglia's first internationally released single, (1997), was a cover of an Ednaswap song. Instantly the single became one of the biggest hits of the 90s, reaching number two in the UK Singles Chart and number one on airplay around the world and was number one on the Billboard Airplay chart for 14 weeks. The single went on to sell over a million copies in the United Kingdom alone.
It was also released as a radio single in the U.S., but not in buyable CD-format. The single quickly hit #1 on the Billboard's Hot 100 Airplay chart, where it stayed for 14 weeks. At the time, singles not released commercially were unable to chart to the overall Hot 100 chart (combined sales and airplay), so "Torn" made no appearance on it for a while. By the time the policy was changed in late 1998 to allow airplay-only songs, "Torn" was already heading down the charts, so its peak on the Hot 100 only ended up being at #42. The single also topped the Top 40 Mainstream/CHR Pop and Adult Top 40 charts.
In October 1997, it broke the all-time airplay record in the U.K. for being the most played (more than 2000 plays) for six consecutive weeks. It was finally No. 1 for 14 weeks in the U.K. radio chart, a record that is being tied by only Simply Red's Fairground. It was the No. 1 radio single in the U.S. from March to July 1998. It was knocked down to No. 2 by The Goo Goo Dolls' Iris.
Rick Dees, in his Top 40 Chart show also declared "Torn" as the 'number one radio single of 1990s' in their 2000 Millennium Countdown show, broadcasted from KIIS-FM on New Year's Eve.
Imbruglia made a surprise appearance alongside David Armand midway through a performance of his supposed 'interpretative dance' routine to sing her hit song Torn at Amnesty International's The Secret Policeman's Ball (2006).
Left of the Middle (1997)
Imbruglia's debut album Left of the Middle was released on 8th December 1997. It sold 350,000 copies in the UK 3 weeks after its initial release and was certified platinum. It sold another 6.5 million copies in 1998. It broke the record of the highest selling debut album by a pop/rock/alternative female artist, more than Alanis Morissette, Fiona Apple, and Meredith Brooks combined in its first week according to Billboard. The second single released in the UK, after "Torn" was "Big Mistake." Natalie worked with Roselyn Della Sabina the Australian Italian collaboration paid off. "Big Mistake" debuted at number-two. "Wishing I Was There" followed and it was less successful than her first two singles, reaching number 19. However, "Wishing I Was There" was a smash hit on the UK radio, peaked at No. 2 in summer 1998, and was a summer smash hit in the USA radio, peaked at No. 14 on the Top 40 Show. The final single from Left of the Middle was "Smoke", and the reception was much more divided compared to the other singles. It was a hit in the UK and made the top 5, while in Australia it just missed the top 40. Eventually, the album became a million-seller after charting well in many countries and entering the Top 10 in the US and UK. In 1999, she recorded a cover of the song Never Tear Us Apart by INXS with Tom Jones which appeared on his album Reload.
Left of the Middle was certified platinum by RIAA within 4 weeks of release (3rd April 1998) and was certified 2X platinum in November 1998.
White Lilies Island (2001)
Imbruglia's next album, White Lilies Island, arrived in 2001. Named after an island where her English and main home is situated, the writing process took almost three years to complete in which she co-wrote every track. The album's first single, "That Day," was very different stylistically from her previous singles, but it did not reach the UK Top 10. In the USA, "Wrong Impression" was released as the first single and it enjoyed small success, charting in the Hot 100 Singles chart and the Adult Contemporary chart. The track was also released in the UK as a second single, and it did slightly better than That Day. "Beauty On The Fire", the final single, experienced minimal success and barely entered charts worldwide, and didn't make the top50 in Australia. The album still managed to sell over 2 millions copies but failed to repeat the widespread success of Left of the Middle.
Counting Down the Days (2005)
Imbruglia's third album was ready in November 2003. Imbruglia's record label refused to release it due to it being too rock and not radio-friendly. She was later given songs to record with Scandinavian pop producers (Sweden producers, Bloodshy & Avant), which she refused to do. Imbruglia and her record label parted ways at the beginning of 2004. Four months later she signed with a new label Brightside Recordings, which was formed by a former Innocent Records boss Hugh Goldsmith.
Imbruglia started working on an album again. In April 2005, Imbruglia released her third studio album Counting Down the Days in the UK with "Shiver" as its first single. "Shiver" was a huge success, and it became her longest running single in the UK since "Torn." It topped UK airplay charts for several weeks, reaching eighth place in the UK charts. It also became the most played song of 2005. The song's acclaim and reception paid off and Counting Down The Days became her first album to reach the top spot on the album charts.
It was decided that 'Sanctuary' would be second single from the album. The promo singles were sent to radio stations. The decision was later changed to the title track "Counting Down the Days", with radio stations being asked to play the album version, because the radio mix was not finished. The single was released on July 25th but it did not have as much success in the singles chart as "Shiver." Though it managed to reignite interest in its parent album, and also received a lot of airplay in the UK. Due to the single, the album managed to re-enter the top 40 in the official UK charts.
Imbruglia had a choice to either release 'Perfectly' as her third single, or use the GBP200,000 funding from BMG to do a tour. She decided to do a small European tour (as she had not done a proper tour since Left of the Middle) in late October and November to promote the album. Though the album never entered UK Top 40 again, she proved once again that she had maintained a dedicated fan base; several concerts, especially those in London sold out.
The album is the 100th best-selling album in 2005, selling 204,877 copies in the UK alone.
Glorious: The Singles 97-07 (2007)
Imbruglia started working on her 4th album in late 2005. In mid 2007 the plans changed and Natalie's record company decided to release the single collection instead. The compilation is a celebration of Imbruglia's 10 years in the music industry. The only single lifted form the album - "Glorious" premiered in BBC Radio 1 on the Chris Moyles Show. The promotion included a special acoustic gig. It can be found on iTunes. The Singles Collection debuted at #5 in the UK Music charts, and boasted 5 new songs, including the single "Glorious", as well as a bonus DVD featuring all Imbruglia's Music Videos. The album has sold around 250,000 copies worldwide to date.
Other recordings
In 1999 Imbruglia released the single "Identify", written by Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins. The dark, brooding song — an artistic departure for Imbruglia — appeared on the soundtrack for the movie Stigmata.
Imbruglia also wrote a song with Nick Seymour and David Biegel in 1999 called Troubled By The Way We Came Together which was part of the soundtrack for the movie "Go".
Imbruglia recorded the song "Cold Air" for the Mexican movie "Y tu mama tambien", which also appeared as a B-Side on Beauty on the Fire.
A further soundtrack contribution, All The Magic, was used in the Italian animated movie Winx Club - Il Segreto Del Regno Perduto (The Secret Of The Lost Kingdom). So far this track has not been released outside of Italy.

Hosted by Howard Stern Show contributor Richard Christy, the hour-long program was Sirius channel Howard 101's spoof of the television series Inside the Actors Studio, with Christy filling the James Lipton role.
