Mira Katherine Sorvino (born September 28, 1967) is an Academy Award-winning American actress.
Biography
Early life
Sorvino was born in New York City and was raised in Tenafly, New Jersey. She is the daughter of Lorraine Davis, a drama therapist for Alzheimer's disease patients and former actress, and Paul Sorvino, an Italian American character actor and director. She has two siblings, Michael, and Amanda, a playwright.
Her father did not want his children to become actors; at a young age, however, Sorvino wrote and acted in backyard plays with her childhood friend Hope Davis, in theater productions at Dwight-Englewood High School, and at Harvard University, where she graduated magna cum laude in East Asian Studies. Her thesis was on anti-African sentiment in China. While at Harvard, she helped found the Harvard-Radcliffe Veritones, one of Harvard's premier co-ed a cappella groups. Her solo piece was Yaz/Yazoo's "Only You".
Career
Sorvino spent the next three years in New York City, trying to make a name for herself as an actress. When the 1993 film Amongst Friends entered pre-production, she was hired as third assistant director, then was promoted to casting director, then to assistant producer, and was finally offered a lead role. Positive reviews opened doors for her.
After small but showy roles in Robert Redford's Quiz Show and Whit Stillman's Barcelona, her portrayal of a squeaky-voiced, foul-mouthed prostitute in Woody Allen's 1995 film Mighty Aphrodite won her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Other credits include Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (opposite Lisa Kudrow) and At First Sight with Val Kilmer. She portrayed Marilyn Monroe for the 1995 HBO film Norma Jean & Marilyn.
In recent years, Sorvino has starred in lower budget and independent films. In 2005, she received a Golden Globe nomination for her role as an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in the Lifetime film Human Trafficking.
In February 2008 she guest starred in an episode of the medical television drama House. There was talk of making her character, psychiatrist Cate Milton, a recurring character; however, the writers strike put a temporary freeze on such discussions.
Personal life
Sorvino is 1.78m (5'10") tall. She met actor Christopher Backus at a friend's charades party in August 2003: "He walked into the kitchen looking for silverware. We saw each other and something made us want to talk to each other more," she told People. They were engaged within a month. On June 11, 2004, they married in a private civil ceremony at a Santa Barbara, California courthouse, then later had a hilltop ceremony in Capri, Italy. Their daughter, Mattea Angel, was born on November 3, 2004 and their son, Johnny Christopher King, was born on May 29, 2006. She has also dated director Quentin Tarantino and French actor Olivier Martinez.
She is affiliated with Amnesty International, and has been among the many Hollywood celebrities calling for United Nations action in Darfur. She spent a year of study in Beijing while attending Harvard. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, and also speaks French.
In October 2006, she was evicted from her rent-stabilized one-bedroom apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan near Central Park when her landlord claimed that it was not her primary residence. She told New York magazine, “My landlords are selling the building, and they want the units cleared so they can turn it into a luxury rental, even though it’s a one-bedroom. I mean, it’s 600 square feet! No great digs, but I loved it and now it’s probably going to go for $4,000 a month ... I’m a little bitter! Can you tell?”
In honor of Sorvino's role as Dr. Susan Tyler, an entomologist who was investigating deadly insect mutations in the feature film, Mimic, mirasorvone was the name given to a compound excreted by the sunburst diving beetle as a defensive mechanism.
Sorvino has confirmed that she is currently expecting her third child with husband Christopher.

Gwyneth Paltrow was raised in a successful show business family. Her father was long-time TV producer and director Bruce Paltrow, who worked on such shows as The White Shadow and St. Elsewhere, and her mother is Blythe Danner, a minor movie star and character actress. Paltrow attended an expensive, all-girls private school, and as a teenager occasionally performed on stage with her mother. She briefly attended the University of California studying anthropology, before dropping out to become an actress.
In her first film role she kissed Glenn Quinn in the little-seen John Travolta film Shout. Her first prominent role came by way of dinner with family friends Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw -- when she told director Spielberg she was now an actress he offered her the role of Wendy in his Peter Pan film Hook with Robin Williams. After several small roles, she got her first good reviews in Flesh and Bone with Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, and her first mainstream attention came as Brad Pitt's wife in the thriller Se7en. She won the Oscar playing a cross-dressing actor in Shakespeare in Love with Joseph Fiennes, and since then she has had her choice of scripts, and has generally chosen artistic films over potential blockbusters.
In the aftermath of 9/11, Paltrow reportedly stocked up on gas masks and anthrax antidotes. Months later she said she had given up alcohol because it was interfering with her yoga, but after that declaration she appeared in a series of European ads for vermouth-makers Martini & Rossi. In 2002, deciding that Hollywood was too "male-dominated", Paltrow left America and settled into a $1-million luxury apartment in London. After marrying Coldplay frontman Chris Martin in 2003, she left show business entirely for two years to begin their family. They have two children, and Paltrow has since returned to making movies.
Her brother, Jake Paltrow, is a TV and film director, best known for The Good Night with Penelope Cruz. Her uncle, Harry Paltrow, is an actor with a long résumé of small roles, including Van Wilder and guest appearances on numerous TV cop shows. Her cousins include actresses Katherine Moennig of Showtime's The L Word, and Hillary Danner, who had a recurring role on Providence with Melina Kanakaredes.
Biography
Early life
Paltrow was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Blythe Danner, an actress, and the late Bruce Paltrow, a film and television director, writer, and producer. Paltrow's father was of Ashkenazi Russian Jewish descent and her mother is a Quaker of part Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry. Paltrow was raised in Santa Monica, she attended Crossroads School before moving and attending The Spence School, a private girls' school in New York City which was also attended by Emmy Rossum, Kerry Washington and Sally Pressman. Later she briefly studied art history at the University of California, Santa Barbara, before discontinuing her degree and committing herself to acting. Paltrow has a younger brother, Jake Paltrow, and is a cousin of actress Katherine Moennig, who is best known for her roles as Jacqueline "Jake" Pratt in Young Americans and Shane McCutcheon in The L Word. She is an "adopted daughter" of Talavera de la Reina (Spain), where at age 15 she spent a month as an exchange student and learned Spanish. Paltrow was childhood friends with Saturday Night Live's Maya Rudolph.
Early career: 1990–1994
Paltrow made her professional stage debut in 1990. Her most recent stage appearance was in Proof at London's Donmar Warehouse. Her debut film was Shout (1991). She also appeared in Hook (1991), Malice (1993), and Flesh and Bone (1993).
Breakthrough: 1995–2000
Paltrow starred in Se7en (1995), opposite Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. The film was hugely successful commercially and critically. Then in 1996 she starred in Emma, where she received strongly positive critical acclaim, particularly in the UK for her impressive English accent, as well as in Europe and Asia.
Two years later, Paltrow starred in Shakespeare in Love, in which she portrayed the fictional love interest of William Shakespeare, portrayed by Joseph Fiennes. It earned more than US$100 million in domestic box office receipts, and received numerous awards. Shakespeare in Love won the Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy and Best Screenplay, as well as the Academy Award for Best Picture. Paltrow also won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role from the Screen Actors Guild. Later that year, Paltrow won the Academy Award for Best Actress. The next year Paltrow starred in other movie roles such as A Perfect Murder. In 1999 Paltrow starred in The Talented Mr. Ripley which earned over $80 million domestically, and received positive reviews.
Recent Years: 2000–Present
Until recently, despite a relatively low-profile, she has maintained a steady film career with a few critically acclaimed film roles, including Proof (2005) and The Royal Tenenbaums (2001). Audiences got their first taste of Paltrow's singing ability with the 2000 release of Duets, in which she co-starred with singer Huey Lewis, who played her karaoke-hustling estranged father, and was directed by her father, Bruce Paltrow. Towards the end of the film, their characters resolve their differences and perform a cover version of Smokey Robinson's "Cruisin'". The song was well-received and was eventually released as a single, getting heavy airplay from Top 40 and adult contemporary-formatted radio stations. The song went to number one in Australia while Paltrow's rendition of the Kim Carnes classic "Bette Davis Eyes" reached number three.
In an interview with The Guardian, Paltrow admitted that she divided her career into those movies she did for love and those films she did for money: The Royal Tenenbaums, Proof, and Sylvia fell into the former category, while View from the Top and Shallow Hal were in the latter
Since winning the Oscar for Shakespeare in Love, Paltrow's film success has been less noteworthy. She said she was unequipped to cope with the pressure, leading her to make several bad movie choices, agreeing with peers who believe the win is a curse. She has also made several cameo roles, such as her appearance in the Brittany Murphy film Love and Other Disasters, and several smaller roles, such as her role in Running With Scissors and Infamous, in which she sang Cole Porter's "What Is This Thing Called Love?".
She appeared in the 2005 film Proof, based on the play of the same name, in which she plays a young protagonist, mathematician and daughter Catherine.
In 2008, she appeared in Iron Man as Pepper Potts, her first blockbuster film in several years. Paltrow told an interviewer that initially she was hesitant to appear in a big blockbuster film, but that she was won over by Robert Downey Jr., the star of the film, and director Jon Favreau. Paltrow recalled a conversation with Downey Jr., saying:
“ Robert called me and he said, 'This is gonna be fun, and this is gonna be good.' And then he said to me, 'Don't you want to be in a movie that people see?' And I was like, 'Whoa! What would that feel like?' And he's right. Moviemaking is not supposed to be a masturbatory exercise; it's supposed to be shared by other people. ”
Other work
In May 2005, Paltrow became the new face of Estée Lauder's Pleasures perfume. She appeared in Chicago on August 17, 2007, to sign bottles of the perfume, and on July 8, 2008, she promoted Lauder's Sensuous perfume in New York along with the company's three other spokesmodels. Estée Lauder donates a minimum of $500,000 of sales of items from the 'Pleasures Gwyneth Paltrow' collection to breast cancer research.
Paltrow serves on the board of the Robin Hood Foundation, a charitable organization which attempts to alleviate problems caused by poverty in New York City. In 2006 she became the new face for Bean Pole International, a Korean fashion brand. She starred along with actor Daniel Henney in several commercial films. In October 2007, Paltrow signed up for a PBS television series Spain... on the road Again with Mario Batali that showcases the food and culture of Spain.
In September 2008, she launched a weekly online upscale lifestyle newsletter, Goop, encouraging readers to 'nourish the inner aspect'. Each week, the newsletter focuses on an action: Make, Go, Get, Do, Be, and See. It was ridiculed by a number of news outlets, including E-Online, The Independent, and the UK's Daily Mirror.
Personal life
Paltrow is a descendent of a famous 17th century Polish rabbi David HaLevi Segal of Krakow, through the Russian rabbinical family, Paltrowitch, which produced thirty-three rabbis over several generations. The actress has said she is very proud of having Jewish ancestry and has attributed some of her father's warmth to his Jewish heritage:
“ My father had that incredible Jewish warmth, really bolstering us [his children] all the time. And when you're nine years old and you're hearing that you are the best person, it gets in there, and you think, 'OK, I'm not going to be afraid to try things, because I'm always loved no matter what.' That kills me, when I think about it. It totally breaks my heart, how lucky I am. ”
Paltrow had a much-publicized romance and engagement to Brad Pitt whom she dated from 1995 to 1997. She once stated that she regretted breaking up with Pitt, saying in an interview with Diane Sawyer that she wished Pitt well and could not believe he was with her when she was "such a mess". They were together for over three years. She has been linked romantically with Ben Affleck, Luke Wilson, Chris Heinz, and Robert Sean Leonard.
On turning 30, she said "I had the most incredible birthday weekend until my dad died on me like six days later," said Paltrow, who turned 30 on September 27, 2002. "It's been, in many ways, the worst year of my life and will continue to be." On December 5, 2003, she married Chris Martin of the British rock group Coldplay in a secret wedding ceremony in Southern California at a hotel; she had met him backstage at a concert. Paltrow gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Apple Blythe Alison Martin, five months later, on May 14, 2004, in London. One of Chris Martin's band associates already had a daughter named Apple and Gwyneth and Chris asked their friend if they could 'borrow' the same name for their daughter. Gwyneth further explained the unusual first name on Oprah, saying:
“ It sounded so sweet and it conjured such a lovely picture for me – you know, apples are so sweet and they're wholesome and it's biblical – and I just thought it sounded so lovely and … clean! And I just thought, "Perfect!" ”
The child's godfather is Simon Pegg, and Paltrow has stated Apple will use her middle name when beginning school. She currently divides her residence between New York and Belsize Park in London where they live in a house bought from Kate Winslet.
In January 2006, Paltrow announced that, "Since my daughter came along, I've not worked much through choice. And with another baby on its way, I don't think I will be doing a lot for the next year or so either." Her second child, a boy named Moses Bruce Anthony Martin, was born on April 8, 2006 in New York City's Mount Sinai Hospital. Her son's first name was explained as the song that her husband wrote for her shortly before their secret wedding, called "Moses".
In May 2005, she publicly announced that she had suffered from depression after the death of her father. She practices yoga daily, and follows a macrobiotic diet, although she told People in 2005 that, "I'm not as stringent as I was in the past. Now I'll have cheese once in a while or white flour, but I still believe in whole grains and no sugar."
Paltrow earned the enmity of Sharon Stone due to her performance as Stone in a Saturday Night Live skit that poked fun at Stone and her then-husband, Phil Bronstein. Paltrow is good friends with Madonna, with whom she shares a personal trainer, and fashion designer Valentino. Steven Spielberg is a close family friend. She was best friends with Winona Ryder until her breakup with Ben Affleck.
On September 27, 2006, Paltrow sang a duet with rap artist Jay-Z during his concert at Royal Albert Hall. She sang the chorus for "Song Cry", from the rapper's album Blueprint. In an interview prior to her appearance she indicated she would be attending the concert, but did not mention she would perform. She was also quoted as saying "I'm a Jay-Z fan. He's my best friend." Her husband, Chris Martin, later performed the song "Beach Chair" with Jay-Z from the rapper's album Kingdom Come.
In December 2006, Paltrow was reported on the Internet to have told Notícias Sábado, the weekend magazine supplement of Portuguese newspaper Diário de Notícias, that she thought British people were more civilized and intelligent than Americans. Paltrow denied making the statements attributed to her and told People that she never gave an interview to a Portuguese publication, but did a press conference in Spain where she tried to say in Spanish that Europe was an "older culture" and Americans "live to work". Diário de Notícias later clarified in their December 6, 2006 edition that they had not obtained the quotes from an original interview or foreign press conference, but rather from previous English-language articles which are still referenced online. In a 2007 interview with W, Paltrow again claimed she was misquoted by Diário de Notícias, telling an interviewer:
“ I love America, and I'm an American through and through. But the conservative media won't let it go…. People love to give you a moniker and then, you know, they've designed this hole for you that you have to fit in." ”
In the May 2008 issue of Vogue, Paltrow revealed that she suffered from post-partum depression after giving birth to her second child, Moses. She stated that she felt "out of her body", "disconnected, "down" and "pessimistic”.
In a 2007 interview, Paltrow explained that she wasn't sure if she wanted more children. "My husband really wants to adopt," she told the interviewer, "So I don't know; I'm sort of open for anything."

Because of her roles in such films as House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects and the remake Halloween, she has been named as a "scream queen" and "the most iconic female serial killer to emerge on the modern horror scene."
Biography
Personal life
Moon was born in San Jose, California. She was raised in Connecticut and after graduating from Plainville High School when she was 17, Moon moved back to California. Afterwards, she moved between homes in both states to attend school and seek work. On October 31, 2002 she married musician and film director Rob Zombie after almost 13 years of dating. The two had met at Toad's Place, a concert venue, in New Haven, Connecticut through mutual friends. Ten days before their planned wedding date, the couple decided to elope and get married on Halloween.
Career
Moon had aspirations to do cartoon voiceovers, and even took classes, and briefly attended the Connecticut School of Broadcasting to become an MTV VJ But Moon found herself preoccupied going on tour with Zombie. When Zombie's band White Zombie disbanded, Zombie became a solo artist, taking Moon on as a dancer where she also choreographed routines and created costumes for the tour.
Moon has appeared in eleven of Zombie's solo music videos and an additional four previous to that when he fronted White Zombie. She most famously starred in the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari-themed music video "Living Dead Girl". Moon has graced the cover of the single for "Living Dead Girl" (1998), Zombie's remix album American Made Music to Strip By (1999), and the cover of the single for "Demon Speeding". Aside from Zombie's work, she also appeared in Black Label Society's video for "Stillborn" and Prong's video for "Rude Awakening".
In 2000, Moon co-starred in her husband's first feature film, House of 1000 Corpses as Vera-Ellen "Baby" Firefly, but previous to that, she claims that she had never had aspirations of becoming an actress. As Sheri explains her character in that film, "Baby is the angelic-looking bait to get the victims." Moon starred alongside genre actors Sid Haig, Bill Moseley and Karen Black. The film was not received well by many critics, including James Brundage of popular website Filmcritic who claimed that it was "too highbrow to be a good cheap horror movie, too lowbrow to be satire, and too boring to bear the value of the ticket." The film saw some expansion in later weeks and ultimately grossed $16.8 million worldwide, which was successful based on its $7 million production budget.
In 2004, she had a brief appearance in the Tobe Hooper film Toolbox Murders starring Angela Bettis, the only film she has been in not directed by Zombie.
Moon reprised her role as Baby Firefly in the 2005 sequel to House of 1000 Corpses, titled The Devil's Rejects. The Devil's Rejects was financially successful, recouping its roughly $7 million budget during its opening weekend, going on to earn over $16 million and better received by critics than its predecessor. Critic Roger Ebert gave the film three out of a possible four stars. Ebert wrote, "If you are a hardened horror movie fan capable of appreciating skill and wit in the service of the deliberately disgusting, 'The Devil's Rejects' may exercise a certain strange charm." Moon was awarded Spike TV's Scream Awards award for "Most Vile Villain" alongside co-stars Haig, Moseley and Leslie Easterbrook for their portrayal of the Firefly family. Following that, she was awarded a Fuse/Fangoria Chainsaw Award for best duo with her co-star Moseley.
Moon designed a clothing line, Total Skull, which debuted at the end of May 2006. She explains, "The phrase "total skull" to me means awesome, rad the best of the best." Total Skull can be bought through the online store, at Hot Topic stores, various locations around the U.S. including Hollywood and Las Vegas, one in Brighton, England and two store locations in Australia.
In 2007, Moon starred in a short faux trailer segment for the film Grindhouse. She appeared in the segment directed by Zombie titled Werewolf Women of the SS as Eva Krupp. She also appeared in her husband's version of the 1978 classic Halloween, playing Deborah Myers, the mother of Michael Myers. It currently stands as the third highest grossing overall film in the Halloween franchise. Despite the commercial success of the film, Moon has no intention to appear in another Halloween film.
Moon provides the voice for the character of Suzi X in the upcoming animated film The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, written and produced by her husband Zombie. The film is still in production with no release date yet set.

Heidi Montag is an American television personality, singer, and actress. Montag is best known for appearing on the MTV reality series The Hills.
Career
Reality TV
Born in Crested Butte, Colorado, Montag moved to California after graduating high school where she enrolled at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. During freshman orientation, she met Lauren Conrad who was then a featured cast member on the MTV reality series Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. After Montag and Conrad transferred to Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, Conrad received her own spin-off series The Hills, which premiered on May 31, 2006. Montag was featured in the series sharing an apartment with Conrad while studying at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. She eventually left the Fashion Institute in fall of 2005 when she was hired at Bolthouse Productions. According to Montag, she dropped out because she "did not find the school challenging". Within two years, she was promoted to event planner at Bolthouse, before being fired and then re-hired.
Montag appeared in every episode of seasons one and two of The Hills, and appeared in season three, which aired on MTV on August 13, 2007. In the summer of 2006, Montag began dating fellow Hills cast member Spencer Pratt, a former manager of Brody Jenner. Season 2 of The Hills (which aired from January through April 2007) focused on Montag's relationship with Pratt and its effect on her friendships with Conrad and fellow Hills cast member Audrina Patridge. On the Season 2 finale, Montag moved out of her apartment with Conrad to live with Pratt. Although Conrad maintained the two were still friends after Montag moved out, the friendship soon ended when Conrad blamed Montag and Pratt for spreading rumors about a sex tape featuring her and ex-boyfriend Jason Wahler. In October 2008, the pair reportedly ended their feud.
In August 2008, Lauren Conrad expressed feelings that The Hills is "definitely reaching its end", citing the privacy pitfalls. Montag and Pratt have expressed an interest in adopting Conrad's lead role and narrator. In a recent radio interview with Ryan Seacrest, Montag said "I think that maybe Lauren is tired of [being on the show], but we’re just beginning," and that "We’re not even remotely sick of it." Whereas Pratt stated that, "sometimes the narrator has to throw their hate up on the wall and pass the mic", and expressed an interest in taking The Hills to a tenth season. In April 2009, Montag signed on to appear on the reality series I'm a Celebrity... Get Me out of Here!.
Acting career
In November 2008, Montag, along with Spencer Pratt, shot scenes for an episode of the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother. The two appeared as themselves in an episode aired in January 2009.
Music career
In February 2007, Montag started work on an album with producer David Foster. It was also reported that she is on a one-song contract with Warner Bros., not a full studio contract as both Montag and her then-fiance, Spencer Pratt, had claimed. On August 16, 2007, Ryan Seacrest premiered Montag's song, "Body Language", featuring Pratt rapping, on his KIIS-FM radio show. Both Montag and Pratt denied the song was her intended first single with Pratt telling Us Weekly that the tune, "was a song Heidi and I were doing for fun. Never would I rap on her first single!" In December 2007, another track by Montag and produced by David Foster entitled "Touch Me" was leaked online.
On February 5, 2008, Montag's first single, "Higher" received an online-only release on iTunes. The song and the video received a negative response from websites and readers across the internet, to which Montag responded, "I appreciate people taking the time to write any comment." The following month, Montag released her second single, "No More", through iTunes. In June 2008, Montag released two songs, her first official single, "Fashion" and "One More Drink." Montag also revealed interest in releasing a Christian music album.
On August 18, 2008, Montag released a song titled "Overdosin'". On April 1, 2009, she debuted her single "Look How I'm Doing" on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM show. In March 2009, Montag hired songwriter Cathy Dennis to work on her upcoming album.
Fashion line
Montag debuted her fashion line, Heidiwood, at a fashion show at the Hollywood and Highland shopping center in Hollywood on April 11, 2008. Shortly after, she promoted her line in New York City, at MTV's TRL, among other places.
Personal life
In 2005, Montag began dating Jordan Eubanks. Montag broke off her relationship with Eubanks in the spring of 2006, something that she has described as "the best decision of [her] life" and "something that [she] should have done earlier". After months of speculation and rumors, Montag said in September 2007 that she had breast augmentation, collagen lip injections, and rhinoplasty in April 2007.
In May 2007, Montag and Spencer Pratt announced their engagement. During The Hills season finale in December 2007, Montag and Pratt broke off their engagement. During a broadcast of Ryan Seacrest's radio show, Pratt said that he was madly in love with Montag and trying to win her back. On November 20, 2008, Montag and Pratt had a marriage ceremony in Mexico. No family members were present and the wedding ceremony lasted 15 minutes. Montag and Pratt married a second time on April 25, 2009 in Pasadena, California.
On March 3, 2008, Montag's stepbrother Eric O'Hara was killed in a freak accident after a fall from an icy roof. O'Hara was a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan and served the 82nd Airborne Division. Montag released a statement regarding the death:
"Losing my brother at an early age is such a tragedy. I just loved him more than anything. He was just so patriotic. He really wanted to go to Iraq and help and do all that he could for his country. He felt like it was his duty. I'll really miss him."
In an April 2008 interview, Montag said that she was a Republican and that she planned to vote for John McCain in the 2008 presidential election. Although not registered to vote when making that statement, she said that this was because she had been too busy and that she planned to register soon

Mother: Janis Winehouse (pharmacist)

Amy Jade Winehouse (born 14 September 1983) is an English singer-songwriter, known for her eclectic mix of various musical genres including soul, jazz, rock & roll and R&B. Winehouse is best known for her soulful, powerful contralto vocals.
Winehouse's 2003 debut album Frank did well, both commercially and critically, in her native Britain. It was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Her 2006 follow-up album Back to Black led to six Grammy Award nominations and five wins, tying the record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night, and made Winehouse the first British singer to win five Grammys, including three of the "Big Four": Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. On 14 February 2007, she won a BRIT Award for Best British Female Artist; she had also been nominated for Best British Album. She has won the Ivor Novello Award three times, one in 2004 for Best Contemporary Song (musically and lyrically) for "Stronger Than Me", one in 2007 for Best Contemporary Song for "Rehab", and one in 2008 for Best Song Musically and Lyrically for "Love Is a Losing Game", among other prestigious distinctions.
Winehouse has received media attention apart from her singing. Her distinctive style has been the muse for fashion designers such as Karl Lagerfeld. The singer's problems with drug and alcohol addiction, as well as self-destructive behaviour, have become regular tabloid news since 2007. She and her husband have been plagued by legal troubles that have led to the cancellation of several tour dates.
In June 2008, Winehouse's publicist reported that she had developed early signs of what could lead to emphysema, while her father relayed reports of an irregular heartbeat, stating these conditions were brought on by smoking cigarettes and crack cocaine.
Early life
Amy Winehouse was born in the Southgate area of Enfield, London to a Jewish family who shared her love of jazz music. She was raised in a family of four: her father Mitchell (a taxi driver), her mother Janis (a pharmacist), and her older brother Alex. Mitchell would constantly sing around the house, often singing Frank Sinatra to young Amy, who also took to a constant habit of singing to the point that teachers found it difficult keeping her quiet in class.
At the age of nine, her grandmother, Cynthia, suggested she attend the Susi Earnshaw Theatre School for further training. At age ten, Winehouse founded a short-lived rap group called Sweet 'n' Sour with childhood friend Juliette Ashby. She stayed at the Earnshaw school for four years before seeking full time training at Sylvia Young Theatre School, but was allegedly expelled at fourteen for "not applying herself" and for piercing her nose. With other children from the Sylvia Young School, she appeared in an episode of The Fast Show in 1997. She later attended the BRIT School in Selhurst, Croydon.
Career
Early career
After toying with her brother's guitar, Winehouse received her first guitar when she was thirteen, and began writing music a year later. She began working soon after, including as a "showbiz journalist" for the World Entertainment News Network in addition to singing with a jazz band.[ Her sometimes boyfriend at the time, soul singer Tyler James, sent her demo tape to an A&R person. The tape led to her signing with record label Island/Universal under Simon Fuller's company 19 Management, and to a publishing deal with EMI.
Major label success
Amy Winehouse's debut album, Frank, was released on 20 October 2003. Produced mainly by Salaam Remi, many songs had jazz-influences and, apart from two covers, every song was co-written by Winehouse. The album received positive reviews with compliments over the "cool, critical gaze" in its lyrics and brought comparisons of her voice to Sarah Vaughan, Macy Gray and others.
The album entered the upper levels of the UK album chart in 2004 when it was nominated for BRIT Awards in the categories of "British Female Solo Artist" and "British Urban Act". It went on to achieve platinum sales. Later in 2004, she won the Ivor Novello songwriting Award for Best Contemporary Song, alongside Salaam Remi, with her contribution to the first single, "Stronger Than Me". The album also made the short list for the 2004 Mercury Music Prize. In the same year, she performed at the Glastonbury festival, on the Jazzworld stage, and at the V Festival.
After the release of the album, Winehouse commented that she was "only 80 percent behind [the] album" because of the inclusion by her record label of certain songs and mixes she disliked. Upon the release of her second album, she stated "I can’t even listen to Frank any more — in fact, I’ve never been able to. I like playing the tracks live because that’s different, but listening to them is another story." She later clarified this, saying: "I listen to it differently now. I am still really proud of it, I still think it's a great album. But, with hindsight, there are some things I would have done differently... Just because I would do things a bit differently now doesn't mean I don't like what's on that album."
International success
In contrast to her jazz-influenced former album, Winehouse's focus shifted to the girl groups of the 1950s and 1960s. In an interview, Winehouse explained, "After Frank I didn’t write for 18 months but when I met Mark [Ronson] I pretty much wrote the album in six months — he was so inspiring." Winehouse hired New York singer Sharon Jones's longtime band, the Dap-Kings to back her up in the studio and on tour. In early 2006, Winehouse's demonstration tracks such as "Wake Up Alone" and "Rehab" appeared on Mark Ronson's New York radio show on East Village Radio. These were some of the first new songs played on the radio after the release of "Pumps" and both were slated to appear on her second album. The 11-track album was produced entirely by Salaam Remi and Ronson, with the production credits being split between them. Promotion of Back to Black soon began, and in early October 2006, Winehouse's official website was re-launched with a new layout and clips of previously unreleased songs.
Back to Black was released in the UK on 30 October 2006. It went to number one on the UK Albums Chart numerous times, and entered at number seven on the Billboard 200 in the United States. By 25 October, the album was approaching 5x platinum in the UK, making it the best-selling album of 2007.
The album spawned a number of singles. The first single released from the album on 23 October 2006 was the Ronson-produced "Rehab". The song was a number-seven single in the UK, "Rehab" peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 the week of 21 June, shortly after a performance of it on the 2007 MTV Movie Awards. Time magazine named "Rehab" one of the 10 Best Songs of 2007, ranking it at number one. Writer Josh Tyrangiel praised Winehouse for her confidence, opining, "What she is mouthy, funny, sultry, and quite possibly crazy" and, "It's impossible not to be seduced by her originality. Combine it with production by Mark Ronson that references four decades worth of soul music without once ripping it off, and you've got the best song of 2007."
The album's second single, "You Know I'm No Good" was released on 8 January 2007 with a remix featuring rap vocals by Ghostface Killah. It ultimately reached number 18 on the UK singles chart. Back to Black was released in the United States in March 2007, with "You Know I'm No Good" as its lead single. The title track, "Back to Black", was released in the UK on 30 April 2007 and peaked at number 25. A deluxe edition of Back to Black was also released on 5 November 2007 in the UK. The bonus disc features B-sides, rare, and live tracks, as well as "Valerie". Winehouse's debut DVD I Told You I Was Trouble: Live in London was released the same day in the U.K. and 13 November in the U.S. It includes a live set recorded at London's Shepherds Bush Empire and a 50-minute documentary charting the singer's career over the previous four years. On 10 December 2007, the final single from Back to Black, "Love Is a Losing Game", was released in the United Kingdom and U.S.
Frank was released in the United States on 20 November 2007 to positive reviews. The album debuted at number 61 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Winehouse's tour, however, did not go as well. In November 2007, the opening night of a 17-date tour was marred by booing and walkouts at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham. A music critic for the Birmingham Mail newspaper said it was "one of the saddest nights of my life...I saw a supremely talented artist reduced to tears, stumbling around the stage and, unforgivably, swearing at the audience." Other concerts ended similarly, until she announced on 27 November 2007, that her performances and public appearances were cancelled for the remainder of 2007, citing doctor advice to take a complete rest. A statement issued by concert promoter Live Nation blamed "the rigours involved in touring and the intense emotional strain that Amy has been under in recent weeks" for the decision.
In addition to her own album, she has collaborated with other artists on singles. Winehouse was a vocalist on the song "Valerie" on Ronson's solo album Version. The song peaked at number two in the UK, upon its October single release. The song was nominated for a 2008 Brit Award for "Best British Single". Her work with ex-Sugababe Mutya Buena, "B Boy Baby," was released on 17 December 2007. It served as the fourth single from Buena's solo debut album Real Girl.
By year's end, Winehouse had garnered numerous accolades and awards. The singer won 2008 Grammy Awards in the categories of Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performence for the single "Rehab", while her album Back to Black was nominated for Album of the Year and won the Record of the Year award. Producer Mark Ronson's work with her won the award in the Producer of the Year Non-Classical category. The singer also earned a Grammy in the 'Best New Artist' category. This earned Winehouse an entry in the 2009 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records for Most Grammy Awards won by a British Female Act. She performed "You Know I’m No Good" and "Rehab" at the awards ceremony on 10 February 2008 via satellite, as her visa approval came through too late for her to travel to the U.S. She said "This is for London because Camden town is burning down," in reference to the Camden Market fire. The nominations, announced in early December, led to a 48 percent increase in the sales of Back to Black in the United States. Post Grammy Awards, album sales increased by 368 percent over the prior week, to the number 2 position in the United States.
On 13 January 2008, Back to Black held the number one position on the Billboard Pan European charts for the third straight week. In January 2008, Universal Music International said it believed that there was a correlation between amount of albums sold and the extensive media coverage the singer has received.
On 20 February 2008, Winehouse performed at the 2008 BRIT Awards, performing "Valerie" with Mark Ronson, followed by "Love Is a Losing Game". She urged the crowd to "make some noise for my Blake."
A special deluxe edition of "Back to Black" topped the UK album charts on 2 March 2008. The original edition of the album resided at the number 30 position, in its 68th week on the charts, while "Frank" charted at number 35. By 12 March, the album had sold a total of 2,467,575 copies, 318,350 of those in the previous 10 weeks, putting the album on the UK's top 10 best-selling albums of the 21st century for the first time. On 7 April, "Back to Black" was residing at the top position on the pan-European charts for the sixth consecutive and thirteenth aggregate week..
In Paris, she performed what was described as a "well-executed 40 minute" set at the opening of a Fendi boutique.
Back to Black was the world's second biggest selling album in 2008 selling 5.1m copies. These sales helped keep Universal Music's recorded music division from dropping to levels experienced by the overall music market.
At the 2008 Ivor Novello Awards, Winehouse became the first artist to receive two nominations for the top award, best song, musically and lyrically. She won the award for "Love Is a Losing Game" and was nominated for "You Know I'm No Good". "Rehab", a Novello winner for best contemporary song in 2006, also received a 2008 nomination for bestselling British song. Winehouse was nominated for a MTV Europe Award in the Act of The Year category.
Amy Winehouse - The Girl Done Good: A Documentary Review a 78 minute DVD was released on 14 April 2008. The documentary features interviews with those who knew her at a young age, helped her gain success, jazz music experts, as well as music and pop culture specialists.
Winehouse's "Valerie" is on a three disc 60 song compilation album entitled Now That's What I Call Music 25 Years, released in October 2008.
A clip of Winehouse's music is included in the "Roots and Influences" area that looks at connections between different artists at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex NYC, which opened in December 2008. One thread starts with Billie Holiday continues with Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige and finishes with Winehouse.
Current projects
According to a newspaper report Universal Music pressed her regarding new material in 2008. According to that same report Winehouse as of 2 September had not been near a recording studio. It was noted that she had touring obligations during the summer and also that if an album was quickly recorded, it would be at least a year before an album could be released. In late October, Winehouse's spokesperson was quoted as saying that Winehouse has not been given a deadline to complete her third album, for which she is learning to play drums. On 4 November Universal Music chairman Lucian Grange was quoted as saying he is optimistic a new album will be out soon and that demo tracks and acoustic songs she played for him have been "sensational".
Winehouse was asked to participate in the forthcoming tribute album for Quincy Jones and is in discussions with Mark Ronson about the matter.
It was announced on Winehouse's website that on 24 November a digi pack 4 disk set containing her albums Frank and Back to Black will be released.
Touring and appearances
Winehouse toured in conjunction with the Back to Black album's release. She performed headlining gigs in September and November 2006, including one of the Little Noise Sessions charity concerts at the Union Chapel, Islington. On 31 December 2006, Winehouse appeared on Jools Holland's Annual Hootenanny and performed a cover of Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" along with Paul Weller and Holland's Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. She also performed Toots and the Maytals' "Monkey Man". She began a run of another fourteen gigs beginning in February 2007. During the summer of 2007, Winehouse performed at various festivals, including UK's Glastonbury Festival, Chicago's Lollapalooza festival, Rock Werchter and Baltimore's Virgin Music Festival. However, Winehouse cancelled her appearance at Provinssirock in Seinäjoki, Finland on 17 June 2007, citing a sore throat. Amid controversy surrounding her health, drug use, and her husband, in October 2007, she cancelled her tour dates for the remainder of the year.
Although her father, manager and various members of her touring team reportedly tried to dissuade her, Winehouse performed at the Rock in Rio Lisboa festival in Lisbon, Portugal in May 2008. Although the set was plagued by a late arrival and problems with her voice, the crowd warmed to her. In addition to her own material she performed two Specials covers.
Winehouse performed at Nelson Mandela's 90th Birthday Party concert at London's Hyde Park on the 27 June. and the next day at the Glastonbury Festival.. On the 12 July at the Oxegen Festival she performed a well received 50 minute set which was followed the next day by a 14 song set a T in the Park. On 16 August she played at the Staffordshire leg of the V Festival the following day played the Chelmsford leg of the festival. Organizers said that Winehouse attracted the biggest crowds of the festival. Audience reaction was reported as mixed. On 6 September she was the headliner at the Bestival festival. She performed what was described as a polished set which ended with her storming off the stage. Her hour late arrival caused her set to be cut off at the halfway point due to a curfew. According to a July statement by Winehouse's father, Bestival was her last live performance "for the foreseeable future" because of her health problems.
Club nights
On 10 July 2008, Winehouse launched her own club night, Snakehips at the Monarch, in the Camden Monarch venue in London. Although billed as a DJ battle between her and another DJ, she stayed behind the decks swaying as another person actually spun 1960’s music. She appeared at another Snakeships event at the Monarch on the night of 11 September. After reportedly arriving two hours late she spun music and played a short acoustic set.
Personal life
Marriage
Winehouse married on-off boyfriend Blake Fielder-Civil, a former video production assistant, on 18 May 2007, in Miami, Florida. Fielder-Civil was a "grammar school dropout" who moved to London at aged 16 from his native Lincolnshire. In a June 2007 interview, Winehouse admitted she could be violent towards Fielder-Civil when she had been drinking. In a July 2008 interview Winehouse said her marriage is not an open one and she would like to have at least five children. Fielder-Civil was quoted in a British tabloid on 28 November 2008 that he wants to end his marriage to the singer, saying, "I have to let her go to save her life". Winehouse's spokesperson said he was unaware of any formal efforts currently underway to end the couple's marriage. Winehouse was quoted in a British tabloid in January 2009 as saying about Fielder-Civil "I don't know what’s going on with us now and for the time being I've just forgotten I'm even married." She said she will deal her marriage when she gets back from holiday. She also said she is "with" Josh Bowman, an aspiring actor with whom she was seen with on holiday in St Lucia in January 2009. The British tabloid The Daily Mail reported on 11 January 2009 that they have been told by celebrity lawyer Henri Brandman that he has been instructed by Fielder-Civil to begin divorce proceedings based on adultry.
Substance abuse and mental health issues
Winehouse's battles with substance abuse have been the subject of much media attention. In various interviews, she has admitted to having problems with self-harm, depression and eating disorders. During a visit with Mitch Winehouse at the prison in July 2008, Fielder-Civil reportedly said that he and Winehouse would cut themselves to ease the pain of withdrawal. In 2005, she went through a period of drinking, heavy drug use, violent mood swings and weight loss. People who saw her during that fall and early 2006 reported a rebound that coincided with the writing of Back to Black. Her family believes that the summer 2006 death of her grandmother, who was a stabilizing influence, set off a free fall into addiction.
Blake Fielder-Civil was quoted in a British tabloid as saying he introduced crack cocaine and heroin to Winehouse. Her husband's attorney testified in court that for over half his life Blake Fielder-Civil has had a "intimate relationship with drug addiction" including heroin and cocaine as well as a history of self-harm and suicide attempts. In August 2007, Winehouse cancelled a number of shows in the UK and Europe, citing exhaustion and ill health. She was hospitalized during this period for what was reported as an overdose of heroin, ecstasy, cocaine, ketamine and alcohol. Winehouse told a magazine that the drugs were to blame for her hospitalization and that "I really thought that it was over for me then." Soon after, Winehouse and her husband were photographed, bloodied and bruised, in the streets of London after an alleged fight, although she contended her injuries were self-inflicted. Winehouse's parents and in-laws publicly reported their numerous concerns, citing fears that the two might commit suicide, with Fielder-Civil's father encouraging fans to boycott her music. Winehouse's father commented that when he had made public statements regarding her problems, he was using the media because it seemed the only way to get through to her.
On 2 December 2007, images of the singer outside her home in the early morning hours, barefoot and wearing only a bra and jeans, appeared on the internet and in tabloid newspapers. In a statement, her spokesperson blamed paparazzi harassment for the incident. The spokesperson reported that the singer was in a physician-supervised program and was channelling her difficulties by writing a lot of music.
The British tabloid The Sun posted a video of a woman, alleged to be Winehouse, apparently smoking crack cocaine and speaking of having taken ecstasy and valium. Winehouse's father moved in with her, and Island Records, her record label, announced the abandonment of plans for an American promotion campaign on her behalf. In late January 2008, Winehouse reportedly entered a rehabilitation facility for a two week treatment program.
On 23 January 2008, the video was passed on to Scotland Yard, Metropolitan Police, who questioned her on 5 February. To date no charges have been brought.
On 26 March 2008, Winehouse's spokesperson said she was "doing well" and denied a published report in a British tabloid that consideration was being given to having her return to rehab. Her record company reportedly believed that her recovery remained fragile.
By late April 2008, her erratic behaviour, including an allegation of assault, caused fear that her drug rehabilitation efforts have been unsuccessful, leading to efforts by Winehouse's father and manager to seek assistance in having her sectioned.
Her disheveled appearance during and after a scheduled club night in September sparked new fears. Photographers were quoted as saying she appeared to have cuts on her legs and arms.
Winehouse was quoted in a British tabloid in January 2009 that she has not used drugs since arriving for holiday in St. Lucia and feels the best she has in years.
Health issues
On 23 June 2008, Winehouse's publicist corrected earlier misstatements by Mitch Winehouse that his daughter has a small amount of emphysema, instead claiming she has signs of what could lead to early-stage emphysema. Mitch Winehouse had also stated that his daughter's lungs are operating at 70 percent capacity and that she had an irregular heartbeat. Mr. Winehouse said these problems were caused by her chain cigarette smoking and crack cocaine use. The singer’s father also reported that doctors have warned Winehouse that continued smoking of crack cocaine will result in her having to wear an oxygen mask and will be fatal. In a radio interview, Mitch Winehouse said the singer is responding "fabulously" to treatment which includes being covered with nicotine patches. British Lung Foundation spokesperson Dr. Keith Prowse noted this type of condition can be managed with treatment. Prowse also said the condition is not normal for a person her age but "heavy smoking and inhaling other substances like drugs can age the lungs prematurely". Dr. Norman H. Edelman, Chief Medical Officer for the American Lung Association explained that if she stopped smoking her lung functions would decline at the rate of a normal person but continued smoking would lead to a more rapid decline in lung function. Photographs of the singer with a cigarette in her mouth, taken 23 June 2008, were widely published. Winehouse was released from The London Clinic 24 hours after returning from a temporary leave in order to perform at the Mandela 90th birthday and Glastonbury concerts, and is now being treated as an outpatient. On 23 July Winehouse stated that she "some areas of emphysema" and said she is getting herself together by "eating loads of healthy food, sleeping loads, playing my guitar, making music and writing letters to my husband every day".
Winehouse began precautionary testing on her lungs and chest on 25 October 2008, at The London Clinic for what has been reported as a chest infection. Winehouse who has been in and out of the facility has been granted permission to set her own schedule regarding home leave She returned to the hospital on 23 November 2008 for a reported reaction to her medication. According to Winehouse's spokesperson on 1 December the singer remains hospitalized as part of her treatment.
Legal problems
On 8 September 2007, Winehouse settled a claim for copyright infringement over the song "He Can Only Hold Her", brought against her by songwriter and producer P-Nut. His lawyer stated that the songwriter would receive a share of the royalties from the song and payment of costs. Previously he had received a "thank you" for his contribution but no songwriter credit on the album.
In October 2007, Winehouse and her husband were arrested in Bergen, Norway for possession of seven grams of marijuana. The couple were later released and fined 3850 kroner (around £350). Winehouse appealed the fines claiming she was "duped" into confessing, but police denied the allegation, noting that fluent English speakers handled Winehouse when she signed the confession. Winehouse has been summoned to appear in court 12 January 2009 to hear the appeal. The police prosecutor in Norway stated that Winehouse's appeal would likely fail if she ignores the summons. Winehouse’s Norwegian lawyer said that payment of the fine had the same legal standing as a guilty plea and thus would cause very serious difficulties for Winehouse if she attempts to enter the United States. On 6 January 6 2009, Winehouse's attorney announced that she would drop her appeal of the fine; as a result, it is unnecessary for her to return to Norway for the 12 January 2009 court date.
On 9 November 2007, Winehouse's husband and four other men were arrested on a charge of trying to pervert the course of justice in relation to an assault on a pub landlord in June 2007; On 6 June 2008, Fielder-Civil and his 3 co-defendants pled guilty to both the pervert the course of justice charge, as well as a charge of grievous bodily harm with intent. Winehouse was rebuked for her behaviour several times by court officials during the legal proceedings in the matter. In testimony before the court the prosecution revealed that the landlord, who suffered a broken cheek in the attack, accepted £200,000 as part of a deal to "effectively throw the [court] case and not turn up”. The prosecution testified that the money used to pay off the landlord belonged to Winehouse and that the plot began to unravel when a middleman involved in the plot recognising Fielder-Civil's notoriety tried to sell security camera footage of the attack to The Daily Mirror. The court was told that Winehouse pulled out of a October 2007 meeting with the men involved in the plot. The meeting never occurred because Winehouse had to attend an awards ceremony. The pub landlord in an interview said he has metal plates and bolts in his head as a result of the attack and that Fielder-Civil since pleading guilty has written him a letter of apology from prison. On 21 July 2008, Fielder-Civil was sentenced to twenty seven months in prison. The singer did not attend the sentencing. On 5 November Winehouse was not present when Blake-Civil was moved from prison to a rehabilitation facility to fulfil the terms of release. On 24 November Fielder-Civil's appeal against his sentence was rejected by two judges who wanted to encourage him to continue rehabilitation. On 3 December his lawyer confirmed he has been recalled back to jail for what has been reported as a failure of a drug test. According to the lawyer the conditions of recall means he must remain in prison for the remainder of his sentence which ends in 2010.
Winehouse was initially denied a U.S. visa because of "use and abuse of narcotics", but was later issued one. The decision came too late for her to appear live at the 2008 Grammy Awards show, and she performed via satellite. Meanwhile, on 17 February 2008, Fielder-Civil reportedly was hospitalised after collapsing in prison from what was reported to be contaminated heroin.
On 26 April 2008, Winehouse was cautioned after she admitted to police she slapped the face of a man with her hand, a "common assault" offense. The incident, for which she has apologised, will stay on her record and could be used against her if she is charged with a similar offence at a future time. She voluntarily turned herself in and was held overnight. Police said, at her arrival she was "in no fit state" to be interviewed.
Winehouse was arrested on 7 May 2008 on suspicion of possessing drugs after a video of her apparently smoking crack cocaine was passed to Scotland Yard in January, but was released on bail a few hours later because they could not confirm, from the video, what she was smoking. The Crown Prosecution Service considered charging her with possessing a controlled drug and allowing her premises to be used for the supply by others of a controlled drug, but she was cleared when the service could not establish that the substance in the video was a controlled drug. In reaction to the decision, former Scotland Yard commander John O’Connor said it is an "absolute scandal that nothing could be done" about Winehouse "cooking a snook at the law". Some Members of Parliament also reacted negatively. Two London residents were subsequently charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine and ecstasy to Winehouse. One of the pair was sentenced to two years in prison on 13 December 2008, while the other received a two year community order.
Organisers of the Rock En Seine festival in Paris threatened Winehouse with legal action after the singer cancelled a scheduled appearance there. The organizers claimed they were given two hours notice and no exact reason for the cancellation. Winehouse’s spokesperson explained that the reason that she failed to appear at the festival was because she was taken ill at her home.
According to Winehouse's spokeperson, Winehouse will answer questions from police investigating an allegation of assault.
Other pursuits
Winehouse joined a campaign to stop a block of flats being built beside the George Tavern, a famous London East End music venue. Campaign supporters feared the residential development would end the spot's lucrative sideline as a film and photo location, on which it relies to survive.
As part of a breast cancer awareness campaign Winehouse appeared in a revealing photograph for the April 2008 issue of Easy Living magazine.
Winehouse has an estimated £10m fortune, tying her for tenth place in the Sunday Times listing of the wealth of musicians under age thirty. It was reported she earned about £1m singing at two private parties during Paris Fashion Week. as well as another £1m to perform at a Moscow Art Gallery for Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.
Winehouse has loaned a vintage dress used in her video for Tears Dry on My Own as well as a DVD to the British Music Experience, a new museum dedicated to the history of British Pop.
Controversy
Winehouse's dichotomous public image of critical and commercial success versus personal turmoil has proven to be controversial. The New Statesman magazine called Winehouse "a filthy-mouthed, down-to-earth diva," while Newsweek magazine called her "a perfect storm of sex kitten, raw talent and poor impulse control." Karen Heller with The Philadelphia Inquirer summarized the maelstrom this way:
She's only 24 with six Grammy nods, crashing headfirst into success and despair, with a codependent husband in jail, exhibitionist parents with questionable judgement, and the paparazzi documenting her emotional and physical distress. Meanwhile, a haute designer (Karl Lagerfeld) appropriates her dishevelled style and eating issues to market to the elite while proclaiming her the new Bardot.
By 2008, her continued drug problems threatened her career. Even as Nick Gatfield, the president of Island Records, toyed with the idea of releasing Winehouse "to deal with her problems", he remarked on her talent, saying, "It’s a reflection of her status [in the U.S.] that when you flick through the TV coverage [of the Grammys] it’s her image they use." Post-Grammys, some questioned whether Winehouse should have been honored with the awards given her recent personal and drug problems, including Natalie Cole, who introduced Winehouse at the ceremony. Cole (who battled her own substance-abuse problems while winning a Grammy for Best New Artist in 1975) remarked, "I think the girl is talented, gifted, but it's not right for her to be able to have her cake and eat it too. She needs to get herself together."
In an opinion newspaper commentary, Antonio Maria Costa, executive director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, said that the alleged drug habits of Winehouse and other celebrities sends a bad message "to others who are vulnerable to addiction" and undermines the efforts of other celebrities trying to raise awareness of problems in Africa, now that more cocaine used in Europe passes through Africa. Winehouse's spokesperson called Costa a "ludicrous man" and noted that "Amy has never given a quote about drugs or flaunted it in any way. She's had some problems and is trying to get better. The U.N. should get its own house in order." Graeme Pearson, the former head of Scotland's drug enforcement agency, criticised Winehouse and Kate Moss for making going to rehab a badge of honour, thus giving the false impression that quitting drugs is easy, because many can not afford to go to clinics.
Winehouse has become a staple in popularity polls. The 2008 NME Awards nominated Winehouse in the categories of "Villain of the Year", "Best Solo Artist", and "Best Music DVD"; Winehouse won for "Worst Dressed Performer". In its third annual list, Glamour magazine named Winehouse the third worst dressed British Woman. Winehouse was ranked number two on Richard Blackwell's 48th annual "Ten Worst Dressed Women" list, behind Victoria Beckham. In an April 2008 poll conducted by Sky News, Winehouse was named the second greatest "ultimate heroine" by the UK population at large, topping the voting for that category of those polled under 25 years old. Psychologist Donna Dawson commented that the results demonstrate women like Winehouse who have "a certain sense of vulnerability or have had to fight against some adversity in their lives” receive recognition. Winehouse was voted the second most hated personality in the United Kingdom in a poll conducted one month later by Marketing magazine.
June 2008 brought a report that Winehouse, singing a disparaging chant about blacks, the disabled, and homosexuals, and containing racial epithets about Pakistanis and Indians, was taped by husband Fielder-Civil, despite assurances to her that he was not filming. Winehouse denied allegations that she was a racist, saying "I don't want to play anything down, but I'm the least racist person going." Winehouse added that the film was taken during "really, really happy times."
Speaking at a discussion entitled Winehouse or White House?: Do we go too big on showbiz news? Jeff Zycinski head of BBC Radio Scotland said the BBC and media in general were complicit in the destruction of celebrities like Winehouse. He said that public interest in the singer's lifestyle does not make her lifestyle newsworthy. Rod McKenzie editor of the BBC Radio One program Newsbeat replied that "If you play [Amy Winehouse's] music to a certain demographic, those same people want to know what's happening in her private life. If you don't cover it, you're insulting young licence fee payers."
British singer and songwriter Lily Allen was quoted in a Scottish newspaper as saying "I know Amy Winehouse very well. And she is very different to what people portray her as being. Yes, she does get out of her mind on drugs sometimes, but she is also a very clever, intelligent, witty, funny person who can hold it together. You just don't see that side".
Artistic impressions
London's Mall Galleries opened an exhibit in May 2008 that includes a sculpture of Winehouse, entitled Excess. The piece has the singer sitting on top of a smashed champagne bottle, a pool of liquid beneath her feet. The body is covered with what appeared to be tiny pills, while one outstretched hand holds a wine glass.
A wax sculpture of Winehouse went on display at the London Madame Tussauds on 23 July 2008. The singer did not attend the unveiling, although her parents did.
A sculpture by Marco Perego, entitled "The Only Good Rock Star Is a Dead Rock Star", that depicts Winehouse lying in a pool of blood with a bullet hole in her head after being shot by American novelist and beat poet William S. Burroughs, will go on display in New York’s Half Gallery on 14 November 2008. The sale price for the sculpture is listed at USD$100,000. Perego said of the sculpture "Rock stars are the sacrificial animals of society." Winehouse’s spokesperson said "It’s a funny kind of tribute. The artist seems in thrall to a tabloid persona that is not the real Amy. People often use her image to sell their work"..

Birthplace: Douglas, GA
Gender: Female
Religion: Baptist
Race or Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Country Musician
Nationality: United States
Executive summary: Lead Singer, Sugarland
Jennifer Nettles (born September 12, 1974 in Douglas, Georgia) is an American Grammy-winning country music artist. She is known primarily for her role as lead vocalist of the duo Sugarland alongside Kristian Bush. Prior to Sugarland's inception, she also fronted Atlanta, Georgia-based bands called Soul Miner's Daughter and Jennifer Nettles Band. She also charted as a duet partner on the country version of rock band Bon Jovi's 2006 single "Who Says You Can't Go Home", a Number One hit on the country charts.
Early life
Nettles began performing in Georgia in at school assemblies, Georgia 4-H's Clovers & Co., her Southern Baptist church, and regional theater.
While Jennifer is from Douglas, Georgia, she is often questioned why she hides her hometown roots by claiming she is from a town south of Atlanta (since Douglas, Ga is four hours away).
While a student at Agnes Scott College, Nettles and Cory Jones (who at the time was studying classical guitar at the University of Georgia) formed the group Soul Miner’s Daughter. Performing as both an acoustic duo and with a band, they released two albums: The Sacred and Profane in 1996 and Hallelujah in 1998, both of which were composed of songs written collaboratively by Jones and Nettles.
In 1999, she formed the Jennifer Nettles Band, with which she produced three studio and two live albums. She and her band were invited to perform at Lilith Fair in 1999 and received the 2000 "Independent Musician of the Year" award from Musician's Atlas.
She moved away from the introspective and sometimes dark themes of her solo work when she teamed up with Kristen Hall and Kristian Bush in 2003 to form Sugarland. On her website, she says the following of the transition:
“ Sugarland's music tells a story that people can relate to on a really human day-to-day level. But they're fun stories. They're light stories. It's music that's not taking itself too seriously. ”
“ "In my own singer/songwriter work, I did more of that kind of self-exploration, a little bit more processing of life on a heavier scale. Sugarland is more for the sake of fun, and people relate to our energy on stage. Everybody has a collective good time. ”
Career
Sugarland was nominated for a Grammy award in the Best New Artist category. They did not win the award, but Nettles and Bush performed for the awards show in 2006, and Nettles presented both a Lifetime Achievement Award to Merle Haggard and the award for Best Country Group.
A duet performance with rock band Bon Jovi, "Who Says You Can't Go Home?", reached No. 7 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart and No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. The video for the song won a CMT Music Award in 2006 for "Collaborative Video Of The Year". In February of 2007, Nettles and Bon Jovi won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Collaboration. In 2006, Kristen Hall left the group and Nettles and Bush continued on as a duo releasing "Enjoy the Ride" in November 2006. Their third album, titled "Love on the Inside", was released on July 22, 2008.
Personal life
Nettles grew up in the small town of Douglas, Georgia. She divorced husband Todd Van Sickle in March 2007. She currently lives in the North Georgia mountains near Dahlonega, Georgia.

Sister: Paige Williams (theater worker, b. 1984)
Sister: Kelley (half-sister)

Boyfriend: Andy Herrod (singer-songwriter of The Comas)
Boyfriend: Heath Ledger (actor, cohabited and engaged 2005-07, one daughter)
Daughter: Matilda Rose Ledger (b. 28-Oct-2005 with Ledger)
Michelle Williams was born in a small Montana town, but her family moved to California when she was three years old, settling in Solana Beach, just north of San Diego. Her mother took her to a play when she was in third grade, and the child was enraptured. "That's what I want to do with the rest of my life", she told her mother. She attended a private, Christian school and took her first acting lessons at the nearby Christian Youth Theater, appearing on stage in Annie and The Sound of Music. By seventh grade, she had an agent, and appeared in an episode of Baywatch.
At 14 she was in her first feature film, the 1994 remake of Lassie, and at 15 she was a frequent commuter to work and auditions in Hollywood. When she landed a regular role on the situation comedy Raising Caines with Judge Reinhold as her father, Williams and her mother agreed that she was mature enough to live on her own. She filed court papers for early emancipation and settled into an apartment in Burbank, where her mother was a frequent presence on weekends. Seven episodes of Raising Caines were filmed, but NBC had so little confidence in it, the project was cancelled before any episodes aired.
The cancellation hardly mattered, as Williams was working frequently in commercials, other sitcoms, and movies. She morphed into Natasha Henstridge in Species, and played Michelle Pfeiffer's daughter in A Thousand Acres, before she was hired to play Jen Lindley, the troubled girl from the big-city on the high school soap opera Dawson's Creek with Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and James Van Der Beek.
During and after that series, she has worked steadily in better quality if lower box-office films. She met Richard M. Nixon in Dick with Kirsten Dunst, played Christina Ricci's alienated roommate in Prozac Nation, and ran away from a dysfunctional family in Imaginary Heroes with Sigourney Weaver. In The Station Agent with Peter Dinklage she played the librarian who had the hots for the dwarf, and in Brokeback Mountain she figured out what "fishing trips" are about. She was Oscar-nominated for Brokeback Mountain, and fell for its leading man, Heath Ledger. They are now the proud parents of Matilda Ledger, living together in New York, and planning to be married.
Amidst the buzz surrounding Brokeback Mountain, Jim Hopson, the headmaster of Williams' alma mater, Santa Fe Christian School in Solana Beach, wanted to make sure moviegoers knew God would not approve. "Michelle doesn't represent the values of this institution", he told the San Diego Union-Tribune. "We would not approve of her movies and TV shows. We'd not like to be tied to Brokeback Mountain. ... Brokeback Mountain basically promotes a lifestyle we don't promote. It's not the word of God."
With friends and fellow actresses Amy Danles and Megahn Perry, Williams wrote a screenplay titled Don't Blink, which was sold to a small studio in 1999 and has languished in pre-development ever since. It is unlikely that Williams will appear in any Dawson's Creek reunions, as her character died of "an abnormality in her heart" in the final episode. She is not related to another famous Michelle Williams, of the rock trio Destiny's Child.
Her father, Larry Williams, is a commodities trader and the author of How I Made a Million Dollars Trading Commodities. He was the Republican candidate for US Senate in Montana in 1982, and lost to Democrat John Melcher by a substantial margin. He is now in Australia, battling extradiction to the U.S., where he faces charges for $1.5-million in tax evasion.

During the final runway challenge in Beijing, China, she faced difficulty when a performer on stilts tripped on the train of her dress, which caused her to temporarily lose her composure. At the final deliberation, the judges noted Jones' high-fashion appeal, but were also impressed by Stowers' command of the final runway and her fluidity. Eventually because of her girl-next-door appeal and good looks she won the competition making Jones runner-up. Jones was featured on the September 24, 2008 broadcasting of America's Next Top Model, Cycle 11 as one of the "Top Models in Action". Evan Rachel Wood (born September 7, 1987) is an American actress and singer.
Wood began her acting career in the late 1990s, appearing in several television series, including American Gothic and Once and Again. She made her debut as a leading film actress in 2002's Little Secrets and became well-known after her transition to a more adult-oriented Golden Globe-nominated role in the critically acclaimed film Thirteen, (2003) co-written by Wood's co-star, Nikki Reed.
Wood continued acting mostly in independent films, including Pretty Persuasion (2005), Down in the Valley (2006), Running with Scissors (2006), and in the big studio production Across the Universe (2007). Wood's acting has drawn critical praise, and she has been described by The Guardian newspaper as being "wise beyond her years" and as "one of the best actresses of her generation." In their Spring 2009 issue, Venus Zine awarded Wood the top spot in their 25 Under 25 rankings] Her relationship with singer Marilyn Manson, whom she dated from December 2006 through October 2008, received considerable news coverage.
Early life and family
Wood was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, the daughter of Sara Lynn Moore (6 Mar 1958), an actress, director and acting coach, and Ira David Wood III (19 Nov 1947), an actor, singer, theater director and playwright. Wood's brother, Ira David Wood IV, is also an actor. Wood has another brother, Dana. Her paternal aunt, Carol Winstead Wood, is a Hollywood production designer.
Wood is Jewish. Wood and her brothers were actively involved in Theatre in the Park, a community theater directed by her father, while growing up; she played the Ghost of Christmas Past in several productions of A Christmas Carol at the theater, and later starred as Helen Keller alongside her mother (who played Annie Sullivan) in a production of The Miracle Worker, under her father's direction.
Career
Early works, 1994–2000
Wood began her career appearing in several made-for-television films from 1994 onward, also playing an occasional role in the television series American Gothic. In 1996, Wood's parents separated and later divorced, and Wood moved with her mother to her mother's native Los Angeles County, California. After a one-season role on the television drama Profiler, Wood was cast in the supporting role of Jessie Sammler on the television show Once and Again.
Wood's first major screen role was in the low-budget 1998 film Digging to China, which also starred Kevin Bacon and Mary Stuart Masterson. The film won the Children's Jury Award at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival. Wood remembers the role as initially being hard, but notes that it "eventually led to her decision that acting is something she might never want to stop doing." She also had a role in Practical Magic, a family fantasy film directed by Griffin Dunne and starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, that same year.
2001–2005
Wood made her teenage debut as a leading film actress in 2002's Little Secrets, directed by Blair Treu. She played aspiring 14-year-old concert violinist Emily Lindstrom, and she was nominated for Best Leading Young Actress at the Young Artist Awards. That same year, Wood played a supporting role in the Andrew Niccol-directed science fiction satirical drama film,S1m0ne, which starred Al Pacino.
Wood's breakthrough movie role followed with the "controversial" 2003 film Thirteen. She played the role of Tracy Louise Freeland, one of two young teens who sink into a downward spiral of hard drugs, sex, lies, and petty crime. Her performance was nominated for a Golden Globe Award as Best Actress - Drama and for a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award for Best Actress. During the time of Thirteen's release, Vanity Fair named Wood as one of the It Girls of Hollywood, and she appeared, along with the other actresses, on the magazine's July 2003 cover. A supporting role opposite Cate Blanchett and Tommy Lee Jones in Ron Howard's The Missing, in which she played the kidnapped daughter, Lilly Gilkeson, in a Searchers-style western, followed the same year. Also in 2003 she played the part of Nora Easton in the Tv series C.S.I. episode Got Murder?
In 2005, Wood appeared in the Mike Binder-directed The Upside of Anger, opposite Kevin Costner and Joan Allen, a well-reviewed film in which Wood played Lavender "Popeye" Wolfmeyer, one of four sisters dealing with their father's absence. Her character also narrated the film.
Wood's next two starring roles were in dark "independent" films. In the 2005 Grand Jury Prize Sundance Film Festival nominee Pretty Persuasion, a black comedy/satirical focusing on themes of sexual harassment and discrimination in schools and attitudes about females in media and society, Wood played Kimberly Joyce, a villainous, sexually-active high-schooler. One critic commented, "Wood does flip cynicism with such precise, easy rhythms and with such obvious pleasure in naughtiness that she's impossible to hate."
In Down in the Valley, which was directed by David Jacobson, Wood's character, Tobe, falls in love with an older man, a cowboy who is at odds with modern society (Edward Norton). Of her performance, it was written that "Wood conveys every bit of the adamant certainty and aching vulnerability inherent in late adolescence." Wood has commented on her choice of sexually themed roles, saying that she is not aiming for the "shock factor" in her film choices.
In 2005, Wood starred in the music videos for Bright Eyes' "At the Bottom of Everything" and Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Ends".
2006–present
In September 2006, Wood received Premiere magazine's "Spotlight Award for Emerging Talent." Also in 2006, she was described by The Guardian as being "wise beyond her years" and as "one of the best actresses of her generation."
Later in 2006, Wood appeared with an all-star ensemble cast as Natalie Finch in the Golden Globe-nominated 2006 comedy-drama film Running with Scissors. Directed by Ryan Murphy and starring Annette Bening, the film was based on the memoir by Augusten Burroughs, which is a semi-autobiographical account of Burroughs' childhood in a dysfunctional family. Wood was awarded the 2007 Cannes Film Festival Chopard Trophy for Female Revelation for her performance.
Wood had roles in two films released in September 2007. King of California, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival,[20] a story of a bipolar jazz musician (Michael Douglas) and his long-suffering teenage daughter, Miranda (Wood), who are reunited after his two-year stay in a mental institution and who embark on a quixotic search for Spanish treasure. One review praised Wood's performance as "excellent."
Across the Universe, a Julie Taymor-directed musical that was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award and was set in Liverpool, New York City, and Vietnam, focused on the tribulations of several characters during the counter-cultural revolution of the 1960s. It was set to the songs of The Beatles. Wood, who has described the music of The Beatles as a major part of her life, played Lucy, who develops a relationship with Jude (Jim Sturgess). The film featured her singing musical numbers. One critic wrote that "Wood brings much-needed emotional depth."
Wood provided the voice of an alien named Mala, a mechanically-inclined free-thinker, in Battle for Terra, a 2008 computer-animated science fiction film about a peaceful alien planet that faces destruction from colonization by the displaced remainder of the human race. The film won the 2008 Grand Prize at the Ottawa International Animation Festival. The film showed at the San Francisco International Film Festival, where she received an award at the Midnight Awards along with Elijah Wood.[
Wood starred in 2008's Vadim Perelman-directed The Life Before Her Eyes, based on the Laura Kasischke novel of the same name, about the friendship of two teens of opposite character who are involved in a Columbine-like shooting incident at their school and are forced to make an impossible choice. Wood played the younger version of Uma Thurman's character, Diana. One critic cited her performance as "hands-down extraordinary." Wood stated that she intended the film to be the last one in which she played a teenager.
In the same year, she also co-starred in director Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler, winner of the Golden Lion Award for Best Film at the Venice Film Festival, about Randy "Ram" Robinson (Mickey Rourke), a professional wrestler from the 1980s who is forced to retire after a heart attack threatens to kill him the next time he wrestles. Wood played Stephanie, Randy "Ram" Robinson's estranged daughter. Of her performance, one critic wrote, "Once her character stops stonewalling her father and hears him out, Wood provides a fine foil for Rourke in their turbulent scenes together."
Wood has a role in Woody Allen's Whatever Works, which premiered at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival. She plays the young wife of Larry David's Ebenezer Scrooge-like character. In May 2009 she played Juliet in six fundraising performances of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet at the Theater In The Park. The production was directed by her brother, who also starred.
On August 30, 2009 and September 6, 2009 she will appear as Sophie-Anne Leclerq in the last two episodes of the second season of True Blood on HBO, playing the vampire queen, Sophie-Anne. On December 22, 2008, YouTube announced that Wood will return to television for the first time since April 15, 2002, the day the last Once and Again episode aired on ABC, this time, a regular lead role in a TV series.
In production
On June 26, 2009 it was officially confirmed that Wood will play Mary Jane Watson on Broadway in the new musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, which will premiere on Feb. 25, 2010. Her Across the Universe co-star Jim Sturgess is reported to be involved in the upcoming Julie Taymor directed play. Music for the show was composed and written by Bono and The Edge of the band U2, the members of which participated in rehearsals, backing up Wood and Sturgess.
Wood is attached to play writer Anne Brontë in the film Brontë, the title character in Flora Plum and will be involved in the film Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll.
She prefers music to movies and is planning to launch a singing career. On October 24, 2007, Entertainment Weekly announced that Wood planned to sign a record deal with Interscope Records. As of 2008[update], she is currently working on her debut album.
Personal life
Wood was home-schooled and received her high school diploma at age 15. She has a black belt in taekwondo.
Wood has described herself as being "laid-back" and "not a party girl," citing her choice to stay away from what is considered a typical Hollywood lifestyle. In 2006, Wood, who was described by The Guardian as an "Anglophile," dated her "Wake Me Up When September Ends" music video co-star, English actor Jamie Bell. She is also a friend of actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
In 2007, Wood's relationship with Marilyn Manson became public. The two met at a party at the Chateau Marmont Hotel; Wood has stated that she was attracted to Manson's frequent use of black eye liner and once described their relationship as "healthy and loving." Two portraits of Wood, painted by Manson, have been exhibited at the Celebritarian Corporation Gallery of Fine Art. Wood is also the inspiration behind Manson's song "Heart-Shaped Glasses," and she appeared with Manson in the song's music video. Manson has said that Wood's appearance in the film was the highest-paid music video role ever. In November 2008, Wood issued a statement saying "Manson and I both decided to take some time apart so we could concentrate on work."
Wood has since been linked to actor Mickey Rourke. She played his daughter in the film The Wrestler, but she denies that they had any kind of romantic relationship. In a December 2008 interview, Wood said, "People thought we were dating because we got so close in a family kind of way. That's why we felt comfortable enough to put our arms around each other. We were just buds."

Jillian Hall

Jillian Hall
AKA Macaela Mercedes

Born: September 6, 1980
Location: Ashland, Kentucky
Resides Louisville, Kentucky
Billed from Louisville, Kentucky
Billed height 5 ft 5 in
Billed weight 130 lb
Jillian Faye Fletcher, is an American professional wrestler who currently performs for World Wrestling Entertainment on its Raw brand under the ring name Jillian Hall, or simply Jillian.
Career
Early years
Fletcher was trained by Dave Finlay at his professional wrestling school. Debuting in 1998, Fletcher wrestled under the ring name Macaela Mercedes on the independent circuit. Because of this early ring name, both "Macaela Mercedes" and "Jillian Mercedes" have been incorrectly listed as her real names.
Ohio Valley Wrestling
In the spring of 2003, Fletcher began working for Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) under the name "Jillian Hall". She eventually signed a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment in 2004. She started out in OVW as a face, until she turned heel after getting breast implants, and straightening and bleaching her hair blonde. The heel turn was motivated in an angle where her implants "leaked into her brain", causing her to become psychotic. As a heel, she managed the OVW Southern Tag Team Champion Blonde Bombers (Tank and Chad Toland) alongside her bodyguard Melissa Coates and went on a spree of (kayfabe) blinding people with rubbing alcohol.
World Wrestling Entertainment
SmackDown
Jillian Hall made her World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) debut on the July 28, 2005 episode of SmackDown! with a gimmick of a "fixer" for the heel stable MNM. She also had a "growth" on the left side of her face, which she referred to as a "blemish", that announcers constantly speculated on the nature of. The gimmick carried over to OVW, where the Blonde Bombers forced her to choose between them and MNM. She eventually chose MNM, but did not stay with that group for very long. Her first feud on SmackDown! was against Stacy Keibler, with the two confronting each other many times until Hall cheated to defeat Keibler in her final match on Velocity.
Hall was later approached by John "Bradshaw" Layfield, a former WWE Champion who asked for help repairing his image after a loss to underdog Rey Mysterio. As JBL's "Image Consultant", she had an important role in JBL's feud with The Boogeyman, which included her having a hand full of worms shoved up her skirt and her mole being bitten off by the monster. In March, Hall briefly feuded with the babyface gimmick of Kristal, losing to the rookie in a "Divas Uncovered" match on March 10. She also successfully guided JBL to winning the United States Championship from Chris Benoit at WrestleMania 22.
That April, he fired her after Hall accidentally slammed a cage door on JBL's head during a steel cage match and put together a "second-rate" United States championship celebration. After being fired, she turned face and began a feud with former client then heel, Melina of MNM. She defeated her in a six man tag team match along with Paul London and Brian Kendrick and in singles competition at Judgment Day 2006 in a controversial fashion.
For the rest of the summer, she teamed with Ashley Massaro in a feud against Michelle McCool and then-heel, Kristal Marshall. She would participate in a Bra and Panties match at The Great American Bash which was won by Ashley; afterwards, she was not utilized on television much.
She returned in February 2007 as a heel and began a new feud with Massaro centered around Hall's jealousy of Massaro's recent Playboy appearance, matches between the two mainly resulted in losses for Jillian. During the feud, Hall attempted to prove that she was talented in areas beyond wrestling and being eye candy by kayfabe singing (poorly) at every opportunity. She later attempted to impress music producer Timbaland by performing a song she claimed to have composed entitled "Hot Bread," looking for a spot in a video he was preparing and a possible future collaboration on a music project, but he turned her down. There is also controversy that her bad singing gimmick was created to be a parody of Brooke Hogan, as some wrestling magazines have proclaimed as well.
Ashley, with whom she had been feuding, was one of the Divas who was chosen to work with Timbaland instead. Jealous of Ashley's recent successes, she (kayfabe) attacked and seriously injured Ashley, with the reasoning that if she couldn't appear in Timbaland's music project, neither would Massaro. Following this incident, she would have a short feud with then face, Michelle McCool, who came to Ashley's aid. She defeated McCool in a singles match on April 27th edition of SmackDown!. She tried to sing at the start of the match, only to be interupted by Michelle's entrance music. Once she defeated her, she continued singing and McCool interupted once again and threw Jillian into the steel steps. McCool defeated Jillian many other times whilst on SmackDown!.
In a backstage segment with Ashley Massaro, Ashley threatend Jillian to hope and pray that she would be drafted otherwise Massaro would end her career. Jillian violently slapped Ashley across the face and ran away. Massaro chased after her, only to run in to Vince McMahon and to spill his coffee all over his suit. McMahon then supsended Ashley.
Raw
Jillian was drafted from SmackDown! to Raw on June 17, 2007 as part of the 2007 Supplemental Draft. The following night, Jillian won her Raw debut where she teamed with Melina to defeat Mickie James and Candice Michelle in a tag team match. From then on, Jillian mainly competed on Heat against James. She resumed her singing gimmick not long after, frequently appearing in backstage and in-ring segments, including a stint as one of the contestants for the 'WWE Idol' segment on August 13, 2007. She also entered into an on-and-off feud with ring announcer Lilian Garcia stemming from her jealousy of Lilian's flourishing singing career.
On the November 19, 2007 edition of Raw, Hall executed a 450° splash, a move allegedly banned in WWE and that was not seen on WWE television for quite some time. Hall failed to land on her opponent, Maria, when she rolled away in time, and hit her tag team partner Melina instead.
During Raw's 15th Anniversary show held on December 10, 2007, Hall wanted to sing a song from her album, but a returning Trish Stratus cut her off. As Stratus was talking about being part of the show, Hall told her that she (Trish) had the biggest ego in WWE History. This brought out Lita, a long time rival of Stratus. Hall attempted to encourage Lita to attack Stratus, however both returning Divas attacked Hall instead.
Since then, she has kept her singing gimmick and has been competing in singles and tag team matches, teaming with Beth Phoenix, Katie Lea Burchill and Layla, against Kelly Kelly, Mickie James, Melina Perez and Candice Michelle. Most of which have resulted in losses.
On the December 29, 2008, edition of Raw, Jillian competed in a number one contender Divas battle royal for the opportunity to face Beth Phoenix at the Royal Rumble for the Women's Championship. She was able to eliminate Kelly Kelly, but was later eliminated by Mickie James after being thrown over the top rope with Katie Lea Burchill whilst both were trying to eliminate Melina. On January 12, 2009 she teamed up with Women's Champion Beth Phoenix but the match never offically started due to Rosa Mendez posing as a paparazzi and attacking Melina when she was entering the ring. Beth and her attacked Melina and Kelly Kelly. Jillian put over Melina by losing to her, during Melina's feud with Beth Phoenix.

Location: Mesa, Arizona, U.S.A.
Measurements 34A-24-34
Height 5 ft 2 in
Weight 100 lbs
Eye Color Blue
Haie Color Blonde
Courtney Simpson is an American former pornographic actress.
Early life
Born in Mesa, Arizona, Simpson grew up in a devout Mormon family; her father, whom she calls her favorite person, was an oral surgeon. She says she was a gymnast for ten years, winning a national bar competition.
She intended to stay a virgin until marriage, but found herself constantly talking about sex to her friends on the Arizona State Sun Devils cheerleading squad. She first had sex in October of her freshman year, at the age of 18.
Career
Simpson responded to Arizona advertisements for nude models, and was first featured in photos on the Amateur Allure web site, performing oral sex, then on her own web site, under the name Cory Heart. She picked Courtney Simpson for her primary stage name based on her own first name, and the last name of singer Jessica Simpson.
In January 2005, Simpson met pornographic actress Nicole Brazzle in an airport in Las Vegas. Brazzle became Simpson's talent agent for her first pornographic films, starting with gonzo pornography with Max Hardcore in March 2005. Those first scenes, involving anal sex and urolagnia, became Simpson's first regret in pornography; she would not repeat them. By July 2005, Simpson became dissatisfied with Brazzle's management, and signed up with a Los Angeles agency on Brazzle's advice. After someone left a stack of pornographic photos of her on the doorstep of the house where she lived with her parents, Simpson left Arizona State University and moved to California to perform in pornographic films full time. Her parents did not approve of her career, or her moving, but came to terms.
Simpson's first adult feature film was a starring role in Waterfront 4 for Wicked Pictures. She was nominated for the 2006 AVN Award for Best All-Girl Sex Scene, Video. Her agency-supplied driver between bookings became her offscreen boyfriend, and also began performing in pornographic films under the name Jason Cox. They performed together and with other people. By the end of her first year in the pornographic film industry, Simpson had performed in 182 films. In May 2006, Simpson bought a house in Arizona with her film earnings, while continuing to live in Los Angeles.
Controversy
On December 2, 2005, The Arizona Republic reported that Arizona State University officials were looking into any legal claims they might have in relation to a possible infringement of trademarks and intellectual property over Simpson performing in an ASU cheerleader uniform in the pornographic video Gina Lynn’s Double Dutch. The film's producer, Gina Lynn, ultimately decided to reverse the uniform on the video's box cover so the initials said "USA" and not "ASU", and also to blur out the uniform during the time Simpson wears it on-screen. Simpson continued shooting films during the controversy, working five to six days per week.
Retirement
In September 2006, Simpson announced she would no longer be performing heterosexual scenes on film, to give her more time to go back to college and get her degree. She had made more than 250 films, and was considered one of the industry's most prolific performers. She later expanded that to complete retirement from pornography.

AKA Cynthia Michele Watros

Born September 2, 1968
Location Lake Orion, Michigan
Cynthia Michele Watros (born September 2, 1968) is an Emmy-Award winning American television actress, who also starred in films and on stage. She is best known for her roles as Libby on the ABC TV series Lost, Kellie in The Drew Carey Show, Erin in Titus, and Annie Dutton in Guiding Light. She was born in Lake Orion, Michigan.
Career
Early stage career and education
Graduating from high school, Watros attended Macomb Community College. She transferred to Boston University and graduated with a BFA, and like many, headed to New York City to seek fame. She was cast as Agnes Gooch in a Broadway musical theatre production of Auntie Mame.
Daytime television
Watros initially became known for her role as Annie Dutton on the CBS soap opera Guiding Light from 1994 to 1998. Her character, a nurse, began as a heroine, but she gained notice and critical acclaim when her character's rivalry with Reva Shayne (played by Kim Zimmer) led her to become a scheming villainess. In 1998, Watros won a Daytime Emmy Award as "Outstanding Lead Actress" for her role on Guiding Light.
In 1998, Watros briefly filled in for Jensen Buchanan as Victoria Hudson McKinnon on Another World while Buchanan was on maternity leave.
Primetime television
Watros is also known for several primetime television roles.
She appeared as Erin Fitzpatrick on Titus from 2000 to 2002 and gained recognition as a comedic actress, playing the real-life fiancée of the title character. According to the DVD commentary, Erin was originally supposed to be more like Tommy in the series (worrysome, neurotic), and Tommy was supposed to be more like how Erin was (strong, supportive). The characters' personality changes were made a week before the pilot was shot.
After Titus was canceled, she took on the role of Kellie Newmark on The Drew Carey Show, as a replacement for the departure of Christa Miller. Watros played the role from 2002 to 2004. As a welcoming gesture, Drew Carey sent flowers to her on a weekly basis.
From 2005 to 2006, she was a cast member on the hit ABC series Lost. She played psychologist Libby, a member of the "Tailies", a group of survivors of the plane crash who were in the tail section of the plane (and not seen during Season One). Towards the end of the season (in the episode Two for the Road), Libby was shot and killed by Michael Dawson (played by Harold Perrineau) along with Ana Lucia Cortez (played by Michelle Rodriguez).
After her departure from Lost, Watros filmed a pilot for a show titled My Ex-Life for CBS. She was slated to play the ex-wife of a character played by Tom Cavanagh. However, the pilot was not chosen by CBS.
Personal life
Watros overcame a serious disease as a teenager; she was diagnosed with Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, an autoimmune disease of the blood. It required several years of chemotherapy and a splenectomy. In an interview in the Season 3 DVD of Titus, she stated that she had lost her hair and gained over 100 pounds as a result of this disease.
Watros has had a complicated history with Guiding Light co-star Kim Zimmer. Zimmer and Watros met and became friends when they co-starred in an off-Broadway show Four Dogs and a Bone by John Patrick Shanley. Although there is no long-standing rivalry, working in close quarters apparently caused a serious rift between them when they both appeared on Guiding Light. In particular, a physical altercation between the two actors was captured on tape during filming of a Guiding Light episode.
Watros is married to Curtis Gilliland and has twin daughters, Emma Rose and Sadie Anna (b. July 14, 2001).
Watros and her Lost co-star Michelle Rodriguez were each arrested on the morning of December 1, 2005 in Kailua, Hawaii, where Lost is filmed. Rodriguez was charged with drunk driving. Five months later, both characters in the show were killed in an episode called "Two For The Road", leading some fans and TV pundits to suggest it was punishment for their arrests. Rodriguez and the producers have denied this, saying it was to be so from the start

Measurements: 34C-26-32
Height: 5 ft 2 in
Weight: 114 lb
Eye colour: Blue
Hair colour: Blonde
Natural breasts: Yes
Orientation: Bi
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Tiana Lynn (born September 1, 1983 in Tucson, Arizona) is an American pornographic actress.
Tiana is most famous for her ability to squirt. Tiana states that she is a born again Christian, and that she feels this is not an impediment to her chosen career as a porn star. Prior to mastering her ability to squirt, she worried about why she always created large wet-spot puddles and believed something was medically wrong with her. She now describes her natural wetness as being like the bottled beverage Propel. Although she had her nipples pierced several times, she no longer wears her post or stud jewelry on them. Other than her ears, Tiana Lynn has a pierced belly-button.
Given her squirting ability, she often appears in movies with other actresses who can squirt on demand, most notably Cytherea, Flower Tucci, and Angela Stone.
Tiana credits pornography for helping her break a drug habit. She also claims that when she was not actively performing before the camera, her personal sex life was non-existent. She would go home, feed her cat and go to bed alone. While not having a significant other or live-in boyfriend, it did allow her to be extra enthusiastic in her sex scenes because it filled the void in her personal life.
In December 2005, Tiana added "marketing" to her resume by being national marketing director for Elegant Angel in addition to performing for them under contract. In March 2006, Tiana retired from performing and focused all her attention into marketing along with directing.
