Elisha Ann Cuthbert is a Canadian actress. Cuthbert is known as the former co-host of the Canadian children's television series Popular Mechanics for Kids. She had her first lead role in the 2003 feature film, Old School followed by The Girl Next Door. She has also had starring roles in the 2005 House of Wax film and the 2007 horror film Captivity. Her most prominent role is as Kim Bauer in the American action-thriller television series 24.
Early life
Cuthbert was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Patricia, a homemaker, and Kevin, an automotive design engineer. She has two younger siblings, Jonathan and Lee-Ann, and she grew up in Greenfield Park, near Montreal, Quebec. In 2000, she graduated from Centennial Regional High School and moved to Los Angeles at the age of 17 to pursue an acting career.
Career
Early career
When she was nine, Cuthbert started modeling for various lines of children's clothing and also became a foot model. She made her first televised appearance as an extra in the horror-themed series for children Are You Afraid of the Dark?; she later became a series regular. Cuthbert also co-hosted Popular Mechanics for Kids, which was filmed in Montreal. Her reporting captured the attention of then–First Lady Hillary Clinton, who invited her to visit the White House.
Cuthbert landed her first role in a feature film in the family drama Dancing on the Moon (1997). She appeared in several other Canadian family-themed movies and an airplane thriller, Airspeed. Cuthbert starred in the Canadian television movie Lucky Girl in 2001 and was awarded a Gemini Award for her performance.
Soon after her move to Los Angeles, Cuthbert was cast in the role of Kim Bauer, daughter of CTU agent Jack Bauer in the television series 24. She appeared in the show's first three seasons, but not in its fourth; she guest-starred in only two episodes in the fifth season. She also reprised her role as Kim Bauer in 24: The Game.
2003-2005: Commercial success
Cuthbert auditioned for the role of Mary Jane Watson in the Spider-Man film, but the role went to Kirsten Dunst.
She began her Hollywood film career with small roles in Old School and Love Actually in 2003.
Cuthbert's next film, The Girl Next Door, cast her in her first lead role as an ex–porn star, Danielle, opposite Emile Hirsch. Cuthbert had initial reservations about taking the part, but was persuaded by director Luke Greenfield into accepting. She researched the role, speaking to actual adult actresses from Wicked Pictures and Vivid Entertainment. Upon its release, the film received comparisons to Risky Business, – although Cuthbert claims her character was not directly based on Rebecca De Mornay's character. Critics were divided; some praised the film for its boldness, while others, notably Roger Ebert, decried it as gimmicky and exploitative. Ebert wrote that he saw Cuthbert's character Danielle as "quite the most unpleasant character I have seen in some time."
In her next big-screen outing, Cuthbert starred with Paris Hilton and Chad Michael Murray in the 2005 remake of the classic horror film House of Wax. Cuthbert, along with the rest of the cast, was made up to look haggard. In one scene, her character was to attempt to open her mouth while her lips were sealed with glue. For the sake of realism, Cuthbert opted for real superglue over prosthetics. Despite her efforts, House of Wax was largely panned, with critics citing a range of flaws. It was called "notable for having some of the most moronic protagonists ever to populate a horror film," though out of those characters, critics tended to think Cuthbert "fares the best." Others noted Cuthbert as an "exception," playing her role "earnestly" and "fine."
2006-2007: Career transition
Cuthbert's next film project was the indie film The Quiet, which she not only co-starred in but also co-produced and helped finance. She played Nina, a temperamental 17-year-old cheerleader who suffers from sexual abuse. Cuthbert looked to her younger cousin for inspiration as to how to play a teenager. The Quiet, distributed by Sony Pictures Classics, premiered at the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival and received a limited release in Los Angeles and New York City on August 25, 2006, before expanding regionally on September 1.
Cuthbert appeared in the music video for Weezer's "Perfect Situation" in early 2006, where she played the group's fictional original singer who threw a tantrum that led to Rivers Cuomo, the unlikely roadie, becoming the frontman of the band. Cuthbert also had a small role in Paris Hilton's music video for the song "Nothing In This World".
In 2007, Cuthbert appeared in the film, Captivity, a thriller centered around a fashion model taunted by a psychopath who has imprisoned her in a cellar, a role for which she was nominated for a Razzie award as "worst actress."
In He Was a Quiet Man, Cuthbert played Vanessa, a quadriplegic, starring opposite Christian Slater. The film was in limited release in 2007, and it was released on DVD in early 2008.
2008-present: Current and future projects
In 2008, she appeared in My Sassy Girl, a remake of a Korean film, starring alongside Jesse Bradford. Her next film is the family comedy The Six Wives of Henry Lefay with actor Tim Allen, in which she plays his daughter. She is one of the stars in the Canadian mini-series Guns, due to premiere sometime in 2009.
Cuthbert will reprise her character Kim Bauer in the seventh season of 24. She also was scheduled to star in the CBS drama pilot Ny-Lon, playing a New York literacy teacher/record-store clerk who embarks on a transatlantic romance with a London stockbroker. The project, which was based on a British series starring Rashida Jones and Stephen Moyer, has since been canceled.
Cuthbert is slated to voice Cleo, "the feline daughter of a wealthy kitty litter baron," in Cat Tale, an animated film set in a civilized world of cats and dogs.
Personal life
Cuthbert, who enjoys painting, is an ice hockey fan and Los Angeles Kings season-ticket holder. In 2005, she maintained a blog on the NHL website, though she did not post for most of the season. She was once involved romantically with Dallas Stars player Sean Avery, and she is now dating Dion Phaneuf of the Calgary Flames. Her relationship with the latter two hockey players turned into a minor scandal when her ex-boyfriend, Avery, told a Canadian reporter in December 2008, "I'm really happy to be back in Calgary. I love Canada and I just wanted to comment on how it's become a common thing for guys in the NHL to fall in love with my sloppy seconds, I don't know what that's about." Avery was suspended six games for the remarks, and was not invited to rejoin the team following his suspension.
Cuthbert regularly secures a place in FHM and Maxim's annual "hottest women" lists. Her highest ranking was #4 in the 2008 UK Edition of FHM's 100 Sexiest Women in the World list. She was ranked #14 in 2003, #10 in 2004, #5 in 2005, #22 in 2006, and #10 in 2007. The U.S. Edition ranked her #53 in 2003, #63 in 2004, and #54 in 2006. She was not listed in the U.S. 2005 list. Cuthbert was ranked #10 by AskMen.com readers in the list "Top 99 Women of 2007." Maxim named her #92 in its 2006 Hot 100 list and #6 in 2008, and the magazine features her in its Girls of Maxim Gallery. As of 2006, Cuthbert has stated that she would refuse to be photographed nude in film roles or magazines and uses body doubles whenever necessary, specifying that she would "like to keep some things to [herself]."

Mary Elizabeth Winstead

November 28, 2009
Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Born November 28, 1984
Location Rocky Mount, North Carolina, U.S.A.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead (born November 28, 1984) is an American actress. Winstead has been called a scream queen, à la Jamie Lee Curtis, because of her roles in the horror films The Ring Two, Final Destination 3, Black Christmas and Death Proof. She has also branched out into other genres, including roles in Sky High, Bobby, and Live Free or Die Hard/Die Hard 4.0. Throughout her career, she was nominated for a Young Artist Award for her work in Passions, and she was part of the cast of Bobby, where she was also nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Early life
Winstead was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, the daughter of Betty Lou (née Knight) and James Ronald Winstead. When she was five, her family moved to Sandy, Utah, a Salt Lake City suburb. Her interest in performing art also began to emerge with interests in ballet and acting. As a child, Winstead appeared in the Mountain West Ballet's version of The Nutcracker. Hoping to become a ballerina, at the age of eleven, she received the opportunity to study dance in a summer program of the prestigious Joffrey Ballet School in New York City. There, she studied ballet and jazz dance, but decided to also study acting. Winstead ended up appearing on Broadway during Donny Osmond’s successful run of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She was also a member of the International Children's Choir during her youth and honed her skills performing at her church.
Career
Winstead began her acting career in the late 1990s, guest starring in episodes of the CBS dramas Touched by an Angel and Promised Land, before being cast as Jessica Bennett in the NBC soap opera Passions, a role she played from 1999 to 2000. She subsequently appeared in the short-lived CBS drama series Wolf Lake (2001-2002), and in the made-for-television film Monster Island (2002). Trying her hand at comedy, she went the independent film route as the Jewish daughter of a large, zany family in the indie feature Checking Out, but her screen time fared better in the more mainstream Walt Disney Pictures confection Sky High, which was both financially and critically successful. She starred as Gwen Grayson, the in-disguise alter ego of the supervillain Royal Pain.
After the exposure Sky High provided, 2006 saw her forge a professional relationship with the creative team of James Wong and Glen Morgan, formerly best known for their memorable contributions to The X-Files. She and her co-star, Ryan Merriman, landed in the path of the grim reaper’s master plan in Final Destination 3. She had failed to land a part in the second film in the trilogy, but found her place in the third installment, which to this day is the most successful of the trilogy. Morgan and Wong wanted to collaborate with her again and convinced her to appear in their sorority slasher Black Christmas. The film, however, failed with critics and viewers. One day, she inadvertently received a chance to lampoon horror scream queens when The Tonight Show host Jay Leno, unaware of who she was, knocked on her front door and included her in a comedy segment spoofing horror movies. That same year, she appeared in Emilio Estevez's Bobby, a valentine to the politics and morals of Robert F. Kennedy, which drew moderate critical attention, and became a minor box office success. The film's cast included Laurence Fishburne, Anthony Hopkins, Ashton Kutcher, William H. Macy, Demi Moore, and Sharon Stone, but most of her scenes were with Shia LaBeouf and Brian Geraghty. She and her co-stars were nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Cast in a Motion Picture.
In 2007, Winstead appeared in a pair of high-profile event films. Quentin Tarantino cast her as a well-intentioned but vapid and naïve actress in his high-speed segment of Grindhouse called Death Proof, his half of a double-billed feature. The film failed to produce ticket sales, but drew critical acclaim. Death Proof is also the second film to feature both Winstead and Kurt Russell. The same summer, hot off the heels of its release, Winstead received another shot at action as Lucy McClane in Live Free or Die Hard co-starring Bruce Willis (who also starred in a segment of Grindhouse, Planet Terror). The film earned over $130 million domestically, making it the highest grossing film that features Winstead.
She has recently screen tested for the role of Wonder Woman in the film adaption of Justice League. She starred in Make It Happen, a dance film. The film went straight to DVD in the US, and gained a small collection in the UK, which eventually led to its financial failure. It was also announced on May 16, 2008, that Winstead would co-star opposite Michael Cera in forthcoming comic-book adaptation Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Filming is due to start in early March 2009.

The group provided Bedingfield with the opportunity to explore different musical genres and expand her songwriting abilities. She provided vocals for the group which primarily performed dance-pop music about religion, independence and empowerment, themes that would later be found in her own solo compositions. The DNA Algorithm performed at several Christian music festivals before disbanding. Bedingfield attended a year at the University of Greenwich, where she studied psychology to "make [her] a better songwriter." After a year of studying psychology, she left the university to concentrate on singing and songwriting. She began to record demos in the garages of friends who had recording studios. Bedingfield eventually took these demos to record companies. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Bedingfield composed and recorded songs for the Hillsong London Church. In 2004, her recordings appeared on the church's live album Shout God's Fame and the children's album Jesus Is My Superhero by Hillsong Music Australia.
Music career
2004–2006: Unwritten

Her first album Unwritten was released in September 2004 and features collaborations with Steve Kipner, Danielle Brisebois, Wayne Rodrigues, Nick Lachey, Andrew Frampton, Wayne Wilkins, Kara DioGuardi, Guy Chambers, Patrick Leonard and rapper Bizarre. The album contained uptempo pop rock songs and influences from R&B music. Bedingfield's lyrics focused on independence, opportunism and female empowerment. Reviews of the album were generally positive and it was described as a "well-made pop album for the new millennium" by Allmusic. The album debuted on the UK Albums Chart at number one and reached the top thirty in the United States. It sold well, reaching multi-platinum status in the United Kingdom and the U.S. At the 2005 Brit Awards, Bedingfield was nominated for four awards, she was also nominated for an award at the 2006 Brit Awards and in 2007 she was nominated for "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance" at the 2007 Grammy Awards. The song's lyrics, and its accompanying music video, depict Bedingfield's single lifestyle. "These Words" (written by: Natasha Bedingfield, Wayne Wilkins, Andrew Frampton, and Steve Kipner / produced by: Wayne Wilkins, Andrew Frampton, and Steve Kipner) was released as the album's second single. The song became Bedingfield's first UK number one and U.S. top twenty single. The songs lyrics discuss "living your own life without other people telling you how to live it". "I Bruise Easily" was released as the album's fourth single, it did not perform as well as its predecessors but was still a moderate success, reaching number twelve on the UK Singles Chart.
In November 2006, Bedingfield released the DVD Live in New York City, which contained a live concert performance as well as music videos and a documentary. That month she recorded the Diane Warren-penned song "Still Here" for the film Rocky Balboa. The song, however, did not appear on the soundtrack although it was included on her second album.
2007–2008: N.B. and Pocketful of Sunshine
Bedingfield's second album N.B. was released in April 2007 only in Europe. Her album "Pocketful of Sunshine" is the US version of N.B. Bedingfield recollaborated with Kipner along with Eve, Wayne Wilkins, and Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine. The album takes influence from a variety of music styles such as R&B, reggae and electronica. Bedingfield commented that it differed from Unwritten because it represented her shifting priorities from being a single young woman to "dating, searching for a partner" and "looking for Mr Right". The album debuted on the UK Albums Chart at number nine and received mixed reviews by critics, who found that it had "good pop moments".
"I Wanna Have Your Babies", the album's lead single, was about finding the right man to father her children and became criticized by fans and critics alike. The song was moderately successful, reaching number seven in the UK, number eight in Ireland and the top fifty in most other markets. "Soulmate" was released as the album's second single on 2 July 2007 and also peaked at number seven in the UK. "Say It Again" was confirmed as the third single to be released from N.B. on 8 October 2007.
In July 2007, she appeared on an online YouTube music video of Esmée Denters singing "Unwritten". Bedingfield sang backing vocals off-screen for most of the video, but joined Denters in front of the camera at the end of the song. In September 2007, it was announced that the lead single "I Wanna Have Your Babies" would in fact not be the lead single in North America. A new track titled "Love like This" would serve as the lead American single. The track, which features Jamaican reggae act Sean Kingston did not appear on the original pressings of N.B..
To promote N.B., Bedingfield embarked on the FutureSex/LoveShow tour in May 2007, supporting Justin Timberlake and on 1 July 2007, Bedingfield performed "Unwritten" at the Concert for Diana at Wembley Stadium in London.
Bedingfield's live session at Abbey Road Studios was recorded for Live from Abbey Road and the performance was screened on an episode shared with Iron Maiden and Gipsy Kings. The show was screened on Channel 4 in the UK and the Sundance Channel in the United States.
On 3 October 2007, Bedingfield won an award for "Best Pop Artist" at the 2007 BT Digital Music Awards held at The Roundhouse in Camden, North London, she also performed her latest single "Say It Again" at the ceremony.
Bedingfield stated on TRL that the U.S. version of her second album would be titled Pocketful of Sunshine. The album featured six songs from N.B. alongside seven new ones. The album was released on 22 January 2008, with the lead single, "Love like This" being released a few months earlier. The title track is set to be the second single and was played on the season finale of MTV's The Hills.
On 18 January 2008, Bedingfield's forthcoming UK tour was cancelled for the second time, one month before it was supposed to start. It has now been officially scrapped, so she can spend more time in the U.S. promoting her album. However, she will perform a number of free acoustic gigs in the spring to compensate for the cancellation. She recently signed on to become the opening act on the recently reunited New Kids On The Block Fall Tour of 2008 in the US. Bedingfield has been back in the UK recently to promote new single "Love Like This" which recently made the top 20 in the UK chart, with the album Pocketful of Sunshine to follow later this year.
In February 2008, Bedingfield was invited by EA Games to re-record the single Pocketful of Sunshine in Simlish, with a music video released as part of a viral advertising campaign for the release of The Sims 2: FreeTime.
Stateside, the single Pocketful Of Sunshine has reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100. The third single is "Angel." The song was due to impact on US radio on 12 August, and now is out. Bedingfield performed "Just Stand Up" with 14 other female artists on the 5 September, becoming a top 10 hit in the United States. On 18 September 2008 she performed "Angel" live on America's Got Talent.
2009: New Album
Natasha has stated on her latest blog that she will start work on her new album in early 2009. Bedingfield has confirmed to be writing for the new album whilst on holiday in New Zealand, she says "I'm here for a couple of weeks to do a bit of writing. It is such an inspiring place to write music. I love coming here as often as I can, usually once a year to fuel up on ideas for my next album".
Non-musical projects
Bedingfield is a philanthropist who has donated time and money to organizations such as the Global Angels, an international children's charity founded by her mother, Molly Bedingfield.[36] She became associated with the organization in 2006 because of her celebrity status which she could use to help "people around the world, particularly children, who live in conditions that would horrify us".
Bedingfield is now an ambassador for Global Angels and in November 2006 she visited India for three weeks in support of the charity. She visited an orphanage in Calcutta and a refugee camp for former child prostitutes in Mumbai to learn more about the situation and the conditions in these areas. Bedingfield later expressed her shock at what she had witnessed. Video diaries filmed during her trip were posted on her official website in early 2007. She is also an advocate for Stop the Traffik, a global coalition which works to end human trafficking and a member of the (RED) campaign. In a 2008 rockumentary, Call+Response, headed by Justin Dillon, Bedingfield performed acoustic versions of "Unwritten" and "Soulmate" in support of the film's cause: a movement against current slavery and human trafficking.
In 2004, Bedingfield showed interest in acting and made her debut in the James Bond video game From Russia with Love in November 2005. She lent her voice to the character Elizabeth Stark, the British Prime Minister's daughter who is kidnapped in the opening sequence. Bedingfield commented that she would like to do more acting, but only if the film "was good enough, and it was a role that [would] fit me." Bedingfield is not set to appear in any forthcoming films in the near future.
She has made an appearance in the seventh season finale of the hit Canadian television series Degrassi: The Next Generation and as a guest star in the thirty-second episode of The Naked Brother's Band. She has recently made guest appearances on the NBC series Lipstick Jungle.
Personal life and image
In 2006, the media incorrectly reported that Bedingfield was dating Nick Lachey and Maroon 5 lead singer, Adam Levine. Referring to the media reports, Bedingfield commented that "Adam is lovely but I didn't date him or Nick. As soon as you talk to a famous guy, you're immediately linked with him." Bedingfield is currently engaged to Matt Robinson, a businessman and documentary filmmaker from California.
She lists Audrey Hepburn, Debbie Harry and Brigitte Bardot as her "celebrity style icons".

Heigl started her career as a child model with Wilhelmina Models before she turned her attention to acting. She made her debut in the coming-of-age film, That Night. Heigl appeared in the television series Roswell and movies including My Father the Hero before landing her break out role in Grey's Anatomy. Over the years, Heigl has established herself as a sex symbol and cover model appearing on numerous publications including Maxim, Vanity Fair and Cosmopolitan.
Heigl married Josh Kelley in Park City, Utah on December 23, 2007.
Early life and family
Heigl was born in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Nancy, a personnel manager, and Paul Heigl, a financial executive/accountant. Heigl has German and Irish ancestry, and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is the youngest of four children (in addition to siblings Meg, Jason, and Holt). Heigl lived in Virginia and then Denver before her family settled in Connecticut, where they moved into a large, old Victorian-style farmhouse in the wealthy town of New Canaan, where she spent most of her childhood.
In 1986, her older brother Jason died of injuries suffered in a car accident, after being thrown from the back of a pickup truck while out for lunch with some of his high school classmates. Following his death, the family decided to donate his organs. Afterward, their parents converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (prior to that her mother was Lutheran and her father Catholic). Heigl is now a strong proponent of organ donation. Although she is no longer a "strong practicing Mormon", she stated that she that she hopes to "...find my way back as I get older and a little less selfish."
Career
Early work, 1986—1998
When Heigl was nine, an aunt visiting the family decided to take a number of photographs of her. After returning to her home in New York, her aunt sent the photos to a number of modeling agencies, with the permission of Heigl's parents. Within a few weeks, Heigl was signed with Wilhelmina Models as a child model. Soon after signing with the agency, a client slated Heigl for use in a magazine advertisement where she made her debut. At the time, she was earning $75 an hour posing for Sears and Lord & Taylor catalogs. Heigl appeared in her first national television spot for Cheerios cereal.
She made her acting debut in the 1992 movie That Night. Heigl appeared as Christina Sebastian in Steven Soderbergh's Depression-era drama King of the Hill before being cast in her first leading role in the 1994 comedy My Father the Hero. During this time, Heigl continued to attend New Canaan High School, balancing her film and modeling work with her academic studies. Heigl dropped out of New Canaan High School after her sophomore year to pursue her career in Hollywood.
In 1995, she starred in the Steven Seagal action thriller Under Siege 2: Dark Territory. Heigl portrayed his 16-year-old niece travelling on a train across a mountain pass (out of communications range) to visit the grave of her deceased father with uncle Casey Ryback (Seagal), an ex-SEAL counter-terrorist expert. The main plotline has the train hijacked by mercenaries in Colorado, keeping her as a hostage. Much of her work in the film was opposite Morris Chestnut, Sandra Taylor and Everett McGill.
Despite an increased focus on acting, she still modeled extensively, appearing regularly in magazines such as Seventeen. She took the lead role in Disney's made-for-television film Wish Upon a Star in 1996. Also in 1996, Heigl's parents divorced and her mother was diagnosed with cancer. After her high school graduation in 1997, she moved with her mother into a four-bedroom house in Malibu Canyon, Los Angeles, and her mother became her manager.
In 1998, she co-starred with Peter Fonda in a re-working of the classic Shakespearian play The Tempest, set during the American Civil War. Later that year, she starred in the horror film Bride of Chucky.
Rise to fame, 1999—2004
In 1999, Heigl turned her attention to television when she accepted the role of Isabel Evans on the science fiction TV drama Roswell, a role that was expanded in the show's second and third seasons. Heigl had auditioned for all three of the show's female leads (the other two roles eventually went to Shiri Appleby and Majandra Delfino) before she was finally cast as human-alien hybrid Isabel.
Heigl was frequently featured in photo essays in magazines such as Life, TV Guide, and Teen as well as FHM. She appeared in the FHM and Maxim calendars, FHM's annual "100 Sexiest Women in the World", and was featured in the Girls of Maxim Gallery. In May 2006, Maxim awarded her #12 on their annual Hot 100List as well as voted the 19th "Sexiest Woman in the World" by readers of FHM magazine. While Roswell was in production, Heigl worked on several films, including 100 Girls, an independent 2001 film, and Valentine, a horror film starring David Boreanaz and Denise Richards.
Heigl accepted a role in Ground Zero, a television thriller scheduled to be telecast that fall which was based on the bestselling James Mills novel The Seventh Power, in the spring of 2001. She co-starred as a brilliant and politically-concerned college student who helps to build a nuclear device to illustrate the need for a change in national priorities. The device ends up in the hands of a terrorist following betrayal by a fellow student. However, after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the film was shelved when its plot was considered inappropriate. It reemerged in 2003 under the title Critical Assembly. After the attacks, Heigl recorded a public service announcement for the American Red Cross in an effort to help raise money for victims.
In 2003, Heigl appeared in three television movies. She returned to the horror genre with Evil Never Dies, a modern-day variation on the Frankenstein story co-starring Thomas Gibson. Love Comes Softly, for Hallmark Entertainment, found Heigl starring as Marty Claridge, a young, pregnant newlywed traveling west. (She reprised the role of Marty in the sequel Love's Enduring Promise the next year.) Heigl played Isabella Linton in MTV's modern revamp of Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights. In October 2003, Heigl was cast opposite Johnny Knoxville in The Ringer, a Farrelly brothers comedy that was released in December 2005. Heigl starred as Romy in the 2005 television movie Romy and Michele: In the Beginning, a prequel to the 1997 film Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.
Breakthrough, 2005—present
In 2005, Heigl was cast in what would become her most high-profile role to date, as medical intern Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens on Grey's Anatomy, an ABC medical drama. The show, originally introduced as a mid-season replacement, became a huge ratings success and is still one of the highest-rated television series on broadcast television. The same year, Heigl landed the starring role in the independent film Side Effects, about marketing and the pharmaceutical industry. In late 2006, Heigl was nominated for a Golden Globe award in the category Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Mini-series, or Motion Picture Made for Television for her work on Grey's Anatomy. Also in 2006, she filmed Knocked Up, a comedy from writer/director Judd Apatow, starring opposite Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, and Apatow's real life wife, Leslie Mann. Upon its June 2007 theatrical release, the film received largely positive reviews from critics, and proved to be a box office success. Despite her run of success, she also starred in the box office bomb Zyzzyx Road which despite being filmed in 2004, was not released until 2006. It has been cited as the lowest grossing film of all time. She has been on FHM's "100 Sexiest Women in the World" list twice as of 2007.
On September 16, 2007, Heigl won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Izzie Stevens. In her acceptance speech she acknowledged that even her mother did not believe she would win, and when her name was called, she had to be censored vocally by the telecast's producers, due to her saying "Shit!" when she reacted to the win. Earlier, she had corrected telecast announcer Rebecca Riedy, who had been given an incorrect phonetic spelling of Heigl's name, when she mispronounced her name as Hi-jell before the presentation of the award with Kyle Chandler for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie. She starred in the film, 27 Dresses which was released in January 2008, playing alongside James Marsden.
Katherine Heigl was announced the Most Desirable Woman of 2008, according to AskMen.com.
There was some speculation that Heigl may be leaving Grey's Anatomy after the end of the 2008-2009 season. This speculation revolved around her refusal to put her name in for Emmy Award consideration and the time she had devoted to producing a film version of Carolyn Jessop's book Escape. Grey's showrunner Shonda Rhimes said she was not insulted by Heigl's Emmy withdrawal, but also noted that Heigl's character Izzy had less to do during the season because Heigl asked for a light work schedule. However, despite Heigl's reported displeasure with the previous season as well as suggestions that her character had died, Heigl's return for the sixth season of Grey's has been confirmed by ABC.
In 2009, Heigl starred opposite Gerard Butler in The Ugly Truth, which opened July 24.
Heigl is currently filming the Lionsgate thriller Five Killers, opposite Ashton Kutcher. She has signed on to star in and produce the big-screen drama Life As We Know It. Life As We Know It revolves around a woman and a man whose respective best friends die in a car accident. Following the tragedy, they are left to share in caring for the deceased's orphaned daughter. Everwood creator Greg Berlanti will direct the film.
Feminism
Despite Heigl's constant reassurances that she is "quite boring... really", Movie Entertainment called Heigl a complex individual with many contrasts, referring to her as an "ex-model with a strong feminist streak" and an "actress known for her dramatic roles who really wants to do comedy".
In the wake of widespread media attention to accusations of sexism (including articles in New York Magazine, The New Yorker, Slate, The Los Angeles Times, USA Today, The Guardian, Vanity Fair and People) against director and producer Judd Apatow and his film Knocked Up, Heigl has been tagged as a potentially important and assertive modern proponent of women's rights.
In a highly-publicized Vanity Fair interview, as one of the lead actors in the hit film Knocked Up, Heigl admitted that though she enjoyed working with Apatow and Rogen, she had a hard time enjoying the film itself. She called the movie "a little sexist", claiming that the film "paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys". Following Heigl's controversial comments, an online survey of 927 individuals was performed by lifestyle publication Buzzsugar (a media product of Sugar Publishing) in which the majority (59%) of movie-goers agreed that Knocked Up was sexist or could be viewed as sexist (although 38% were not personally offended) while 37% of viewers saw the film as devoid of sexist aspects. In his review for The Guardian, humorist Joe Queenan called Knocked Up "the latest in a new genre of romantic comedies in which an unappealing hero gets together with a gorgeous, successful woman".
Heigl's comments spurred widespread reaction in the media, primarily consisting of personal attacks in which she was called "an ungrateful traitor", "hypocrite", and "assertive, impatient go-getter who quickly tired of waiting for her boyfriend to propose", in some cases debasing her religious beliefs and criticizing her private relationships. Heigl clarified her remarks to People magazine, stating that, "My motive was to encourage other women like myself to not take that element of the movie too seriously and to remember that it's a broad comedy", adding that, "Although I stand behind my opinion, I'm disheartened that it has become the focus of my experience with the movie".
The Guardian noted that Heigl's comments "provoked quite a backlash, and Heigl was described as ungrateful and a traitor. Some people even suggested she would never work again", remarks which in retrospect were not only proved demonstrably wrong but the publicity and promotion in the wake of her comments may well have propelled Heigl's career.
Following the release of 27 Dresses, the New York Post expressed some disappointment with the mismatch of Heigl's talent with the "chick-flick" triviality of the film, suggesting that Heigl might be more compatible "with female directors such as Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don't Cry) or Tamara Jenkins (The Savages)...". On the other hand, her newest project, The Ugly Truth, has been touted as "a battle of the sexes" chick flick.
Personal life
Heigl dated Joey Lawrence in 1994 and Roswell costar Jason Behr during the run of the series. In June 2006, she became engaged to singer Josh Kelley, whom she met on the set of his music video for "Only You". They were married on December 23, 2007 in Park City, Utah. During a taping of Live With Regis and Kelly, Heigl stating that she and Kelley chose not to live together before they were married, saying, "I think I just wanted to save something for the actual marriage... I wanted there to be something to make the actual marriage different than the dating or the courtship." For their honeymoon, they went to the Esperanza resort in Cabo San Lucas. In December 2007, Heigl and Kelley moved into a new home in Los Feliz, California.
At the end of 2007, Barbara Walters named Heigl one of "The 11 Most Fascinating People of 2007" on an ABC program of that title. Heigl questioned her inclusion on the list, saying that in fact she is actually "quite boring...not, just kidding, but really".
On September 9, 2009, Heigl's rep confirmed that the couple had started the process of adopting a baby girl from Korea. Later that month, the couple adopted a special needs baby girl they named Nancy Leigh (named after Heigl's mother and sister), nicknamed Naleigh.

Disney career
Cyrus was twelve years old when she originally auditioned for Disney for the lead role of Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana, as well as the show's "best friend" roles] but Disney Channel executives judged her to be too small. However, Cyrus was persistent in her desire to be part of Hannah Montana, so Disney called her back for further auditions. According to Disney Channel Executive Vice President Gary Marsh, Cyrus was chosen for the show because of her energetic and lively performance and was seen as a person who "loves every minute of life," with the "everyday relatability of Hilary Duff and the stage presence of Shania Twain." She spent several years trying to get rid of her Southern accent, but in the end Disney wanted her to revive it. Later in an unusual twist, Cyrus had to audition her own father, Billy Ray Cyrus, to see if he would fit the role as Hannah's dad. Cyrus currently stars in Hannah Montana as the lead character Miley Stewart, whose alter ego is the pop music sensation Hannah Montana. The Jonas Brothers were the opening act for most of the tour. Tour tickets for each date sold out in record time after they went on sale, disappointing a large number of fans.
The tour was recorded and released to cinemas in Disney Digital 3-D. The concert film brought in $8,651,758 on its opening day, and continued on to gross $31,117,834 to finish off the weekend, making it the highest-grossing opening weekend for a film to be released under 1000 screens, and on July 26, 2008 it was released on Disney Channel. Though its initial run in theaters was due to last just a week, Disney extended the film's run indefinitely because of the demand of the fans.
After that, Walt Disney Records/Hollywood Records released a live album recorded by Cyrus during this tour. It features seven songs as her character, Hannah Montana, and another seven as herself. The album peaked at number three in the United States.
2008–present
Just over a year later, Cyrus released her second studio album under her own name. Breakout is the first Miley Cyrus album that has no connection with the Hannah Montana franchise. Cyrus said that Meet Miley Cyrus was "just meeting me, finding out who I am", while Breakout was inspired by "what's been going on in my life in the past year." Cyrus co-wrote all but two songs on the album. "Songwriting is what I really want to do with my life forever, [...] I just hope this record showcases that, more than anything, I'm a writer." A majority of the songs are co-written by Antonina Armato and Tim James, the writers of "See You Again" and "Good and Broken".
The album debuted at #1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart with a first week sales of about 371,000 copies. As of July 31, 2008 this was the second-biggest sales week of the year for a female artist; Mariah Carey's E=MC² previously sold 463,000 copies in its first week.

The memoir, called Miles To Go (ISBN 978-1-42-311992-0) was written with Hilary Liftin and was published by Disney-Hyperion Books in March 2009. The memoir discusses Cyrus' relationship with her father, her thoughts on the media, her love life, her future ambitions and milestones she still has to reach in her life. Miles to Go reached #1 on the New York Times children’s best seller list.
Personal life
Cyrus is good friends with fellow Hannah Montana co-stars Emily Osment and Mitchel Musso, often texting and conference calling each other during busy days. Miley Cyrus also taught Emily Osment how to play the guitar and Osment taught Cyrus how to knit. She is also friends with the stars of the highly successful TV movie High School Musical, including Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron, and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody stars including Brenda Song and Ashley Tisdale.
In an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, she stated that she looks up to Hilary Duff as her role model. She also has many pets, including horses, dogs, cats, fish, and chickens. On January 29, 2008 Miley Cyrus announced her intent to officially change her name to "Miley Ray Cyrus," her middle name reflecting that of her father's. The name change became official on May 1, 2008.
In an interview with USA Today, Cyrus was quoted as saying her faith is "the main thing" and is the reason why she works in Hollywood. When interviewed by Parade, she added that she attends church regularly with her family. In an interview with Christianity Today, Billy Ray said, "Being Christian, we believe in heaven," and "We also had a great church, and when you give up your church, your pastor, and the community you are involved in, you're making a big sacrifice. Let's face it, Hollywood is a completely different environment than Franklin, Tennessee."
Beginning in February 2008, Cyrus and her friend Mandy Jiroux (who is also a backup dancer for Cyrus) have been creating videos on YouTube called The Miley and Mandy Show. The show, described as a "YouTube hit," is said to be filmed for fun by Cyrus and Jiroux and to be entirely their work, with Cyrus and Jiroux editing the footage together. It is mostly filmed in Cyrus' bedroom.
In 2007, Cyrus made a large contribution to the City of Hope, giving $1 for every "Hannah Montana" concert ticket sold. She said that "the cool thing about being a part of City of Hope is that they are a cancer research center. They're not only helping kids that are there, but also finding out how they can heal them by figuring out what exactly is going on, which is amazing."
In the September 2008 issue of Seventeen magazine, Cyrus stated she was in a relationship with Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers for two years, and that the two "were in love." They broke up at the end of 2007.
Cyrus celebrated her 16th birthday with a charity fundraiser at Disneyland, which was closed early for the event attended by 5,000 fans at $250 per ticket. The proceeds went to the charity Youth Service America, a youth volunteering organization. Ten outstanding youth volunteers from Youth Service America were invited to attend, and later in the evening, Cyrus presented a $1 million check to the organization. She also gave a musical performance for the attendees, singing four of her Breakout songs.
On December 1, 2008, TV Guide reported that Cyrus was selected as one of America's top ten most fascinating people of 2008 for an Barbara Walters ABC special aired on December 4, 2008.
Controversies
Pregnancy hoax
On September 24, 2007, rumors began circulating that Cyrus was pregnant. The cause of the rumor was an image of a page of J-14 Magazine circulating on the Internet entitled "Miley's Meltdown" and saying, among other things, "Miley herself confirmed the pregnancy rumors during a J-14 interview." J-14 immediately responded saying that, "Someone doctored the "This Just In" article that appeared on page 16 of J-14's July 2007 issue" and that "this story is completely fabricated!" The real story on J-14's Page 16 magazine was about 'Miley's Gross Habits' told by her co-stars on the set of Hannah Montana.
Vanity Fair photos
On April 25, 2008, the televised entertainment program Entertainment Tonight reported that Cyrus had posed topless for a photoshoot with Vanity Fair. The photo, and subsequently released behind-the-scenes photos, show Cyrus with her bare back exposed but her front covered with a bedsheet. The photoshoot was taken by photographer Annie Leibovitz. The full photograph was published with an accompanying story on The New York Times' website on April 27, 2008. On April 29, 2008, The New York Times clarified that though the pictures left an impression that she was bare-breasted, Cyrus was wrapped in a bedsheet and was actually not topless. Some parents expressed outrage at the nature of the photograph, which a Disney spokesperson described as "a situation [that] was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines." Gary Marsh, president of entertainment for Disney Channel Worldwide, was quoted by Portfolio magazine to have said, “For Miley Cyrus to be a ‘good girl’ is now a business decision for her. Parents have invested in her a godliness. If she violates that trust, she won’t get it back.” Branding consultants John Tantillo and Michael Stone appeared on Fox Business News to discuss possible repercussions for Cyrus' brand and her best marketing strategy going forward.
In response to the internet circulation of the photo and ensuing media attention, Cyrus released a statement of apology on April 27, 2008:
“ I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed. I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about. ”
Leibovitz also released a statement:
“ I'm sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted. The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little makeup, and I think it is very beautiful. ”
On April 28, 2008, Vanity Fair published their full interview and photo shoot with Cyrus and her father Billy Ray Cyrus, as well as the behind-the-scenes photographs, on their website. According to the interview, Cyrus' parents and/or minders were present during the entire duration of the photo shoot. The idea to pose with the sheets on was suggested by Leibovitz. When asked if she were "anxious" about the pose, Cyrus stated to interviewer Bruce Handy:
“ No, I mean I had a big blanket on. And I thought, this looks pretty, and really natural. I think it's really artsy. It wasn't in a skanky way.... And you can't say no to Annie. She's so cute. She gets this puppy-dog look and you're like, okay. ”
However, on December 2, 2008, TV Guide reported that Cyrus is interested in working with Leibovitz again in the future and is even considering a career in photography for herself.
“ That's what I want to do with my life. I would love to be a photographer ... I want to come to London to study. I hear there are some great art schools here so I would love to do that.

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson
Born: 22-Nov-1984
Birthplace: New York City
Gender: Female
Religion: Jewish
Race or Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Actor
Nationality: United States
Executive summary: Ghost World, Lost in Translation
Father: Karsten Johansson (building contractor)
Mother: Melanie Sloan Johansson (her manager, b. 1951)
Brother: Adrian Johansson (b. 1976)
Sister: Vanessa Johansson (actress)
Brother: Hunter Johansson (her twin)
Brother: Christian Johansson (half brother)
Boyfriend: Jack Antonoff (lead singer of Steel Train, together 2001-02)
Boyfriend: Patrick Wilson (actor, together 2002-03)
Boyfriend: Jared Leto (actor, together in 2004)
Boyfriend: Josh Hartnett (actor, together 2005-07)
Husband: Ryan Reynolds (actor, together 2007-08, m. 27-Sep-2008)
She was named for Scarlett O'Hara of Gone With the Wind, and as a child Scarlett Johansson always loved movies, especially Dirty Dancing and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. She loved to sing and dance and pretend, and says she knew at three she would grow up to be an actress. When she was seven years old, her mother took Scarlett and her siblings to an audition for a commercial, and when an agent showed interest in her brother instead, Scarlett began screaming. At the girl's insistence, her parents took her to many more auditions, but she was never the girl anyone wanted for a commercial, and she often cried if she felt a try-out had gone poorly.
Finally understanding that she was serious about her desire to be an actress, her parents enrolled her in the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. She was eight when she began her studies there, and almost immediately made her professional stage debut, appearing off-Broadway in a production of Sophistry with Ethan Hawke and Steve Zahn. In her dramatic studies, she was quickly promoted out of the kids' class and in with the adult students. As word of her precocious talent spread, she landed a tiny role in her first film, Rob Reiner's disastrous North, playing John Ritter's young daughter. In her second film, the thriller Just Cause, she played Sean Connery's daughter. At 11 years of age, she finished her course with the Strasberg School.
She first drew critical acclaim for Manny & Lo, as the younger sister of a pregnant runaway. At 12 she played the girl who had her leg amputated after an accident in Robert Redford's The Horse Whisperer (the credits said "introducing Scarlett Johansson", though it was her seventh film). She starred with Thora Birch in Terry Zwigoff's anti-social masterpiece Ghost World, playing a recent high school graduate when she was only 15. In the Coen brothers' The Man Who Wasn't There she was inappropriately eyed by Billy Bob Thornton. She was the Hungarian girl held behind bars in her American bedroom in An American Rhapsody with Nastassja Kinski, and she fought off mutant supersized spiders in Eight Legged Freaks with David Arquette. And then she turned 18.
If any doubt remained about Johansson's talent, it was wiped away with her heartbreaking performance in Lost in Translation, as a neglected newlywed sharing a Tokyo encounter with washed-up star Bill Murray. Opposite Colin Firth in Girl With A Pearl Earring she played the maid immortalized by Jan Vermeer's painting. In A Love Song For Bobby Long she was the depressed homeowner surprised to have John Travolta as a housemate. For her role in the action flop The Island, she offered to film her sex scene with Ewan McGregor topless, but director Michael Bey declined, wanting the film to be rated PG-13, not R. She has starred in two Woody Allen projects, the morality tale about love and tennis Match Point, and the understated comedy of journalism and old money Scoop with Hugh Jackman.
She is only in her mid-20s, but for more than a decade she has been called "mature beyond her years," perhaps because of her husky Lauren Bacall voice. She has won rave reviews and numerous critics' and film festival awards, and even in turkeys like My Brother the Pig or The Perfect Score, her performances always seem to hit the right note. She plans to direct movies, but decided not to attend film school because "it didn't really make any sense to me, to go to school for something I've been involved with for so long."
Johansson was photographed nude, with her arms over her breasts, alongside Tom Ford and Keira Knightley for the February 2006 issue of Vanity Fair. She was a celebrity spokesperson for Calvin Klein's perfume for two years, but left CK in 2006 for a multi-million deal to promote L'Oreal beauty products. She also has a deal with Reebok, for "Scarlett Hearts Rbk" branded shoes and apparel. She collects art, drives a BMW, has said her favorite actress is Judy Garland, and she describes herself as "totally ambitious."
Her high school sweetheart was Jack Antonoff, now the frontman for the band Steel Train. He wrote the band's song "Better Love," about Johansson after she dumped him, with lyrics including "This girl, she had it kinda sweet, Till fame swept her off her feet, She sees nothing she did before, Lets her colors hit the floor, Scars are in her name, And she scars me in blame, Hey Scarlett, you're not the same..."
In 2006, attending the Golden Globes ceremony, she was accosted by fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi, who pawed at Johansson's breasts while conducting red-carpet interviews for the E cable channel. Mizrahi later explained that he had been trying to ascertain how her dress was put together. "Like he doesn't know how a dress works," Johansson said. "I think he's a guy that's starting his TV career and he's making a bit of an exciting moment for himself."
Her paternal grandfather, Ejner Johansson (1922-2001), was a documentary filmmaker who also served as host of Tema (Topic), a Danish talk show in the late 1960s. Her mother comes from the Bronx, manages her daughter's career, and according to Scarlett "she's good about getting what she wants." Her father was born in Denmark, and came to America in his late 20s after divorcing his first wife. Despite her family's Danish background, please note, Johansson's name is pronounced Jo (not Yo) hansson.

Angelina Armani (born November 18, 1987 in Brooklyn, NY) is an American pornographic actress and adult model.
Biography
Angelina Armani’s interest in porn began in her late teen years. While she was never a fan of adult entertainment, she was attracted to the exhibitionism. At 5’10, Armani is model-esque in stature. She briefly perused that modeling while in New York, engaging in photo shoots and runway jobs.
Armani decided to make the leap into Adult. A brief flirtation in late 2007 with porn soured Armani on the industry. In mid-2008 the blonde made a second attempt, this time Armani fully committed to the job and with a new look, she began attracting a lot of attention and was steadily booked by her then agency (Type9 Models).
After only a month of performing, Armani hired The Star Factory publicity team to raise her exposure. Almost immediately Armani began to attain recognition. Under the guidance of The Star Factory, Armani began making several red carpet appearances and mainstream news blogs began taking an interest. Most prominent was her MMAwesome.com interview.
One of the events The Star Factory escorted Armani to, was the Digital Playground premiere of the Pirates II. It was there that Digital Playground owners Samantha Lewis and Joone witnessed how much Armani dazzled the crowd of photographers that lined the red carpet. Not more than a few days later, Armani received a MySpace message from Joone asking if she was interested in an exclusive contract.
At the time Digital’s offer was made, Armani had already been in contract talks with other prominent adult companies. Even though she had never shot for Digital Playground Armani was well aware of the brand’s strength. In early October 2008 Armani signed with the company. As a part of the contract, Armani had dropped her previous name in favor of her current moniker ‘Angelina’. It was revealed during the contract negotiations that Joone had actually seen Armani before the Pirates II premiere. The two happened to be at the same Starbucks in Sherman Oaks at the same time a month before. Joone noticed the blonde candidly posing for pictures for her boyfriend, which he was later surprised to see on her MySpace after looking her up post Pirates II.
Within days of her contract signing, Angelina Armani made her debut with Digital Playground at the Berlin show. To have product to promote at the fast approaching Adult Entertainment Expo, Armani’s first starring movie for Digital Playground was fast tracked. Angelina Armani: The Big Hit was directed by multi-award winning director Robby D., and was released January 13, 2009.
Angelina Armani: The Big Hit was promoted during the Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas. While there Armani acted as Trophy Girl for the AVN Awards.
In the following months Armani made several appearances on behalf of Digital Playground.
The relationship with Digital Playground came to an abrupt end in late April 2009. Neither Digital Playground nor Armani gave too much reason for the split, other than Armani saying to Xbiz.com “I thought it was time to branch out. I’ve been doing a bunch of mainstream work that I’d like to continue, as well as work for other adult companies.”
With Digital Playground Angelina filmed approximately eight movies. The titles of the following are known: Angelina Armani: The Big Hit, You & Us, Teachers, Angelina Armani: Overcome and Bad Girls 2.
After leaving D.P., Armani filmed an appearance for the movie Born To Be A Star. Prior to that she filmed for an HBO show called Designated Driver.
As a free agent, Angelina has filmed only a handful of adult movies/scenes. The most prominent being a parody called Not Monday Night Football XXX and Angelina Armani: Starlets (Elegant Angel).
Angelina has also begun to blossom as an on screen personality. She hosted a series of videos for XFanz.com covering the XBIZ Summer Forum in Las Vegas, She did interviews from the red carpet of the 2009 F.A.M.E. Awards (where she was also a presenter) and interviewed several adult stars at the Free Speech Coalition’s Freedom Fest for AVN.
Recently Armani won her first award. The Nightmoves Adult Entertainment Award for Best New Starlet.
Personal life
While she usually shows off a more glamorous side at appearances and in photos, Armani is also a Horror fan and has been showcased on genre specific websites like HorrorYearbook.com and in September 2009 named “Fangirl of the Month ” on comic book news site PanelsOnPages.com.
Other than her love of horror and all things glamour, Armani keeps her personal life mostly private.

Margaret Ruth "Maggie" Gyllenhaal (born November 16, 1977) is an American stage and screen actress. She is the daughter of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal (née Achs) and the older sister of actor Jake Gyllenhaal. She made her screen debut when she began to appear in her father's films. Gyllenhaal later achieved recognition in a supporting role in the indie cult hit Donnie Darko (2001). She made her break-through role in the 2002 sadomasochistic comedy Secretary, for which she received critical acclaim and a Golden Globe nomination.
Gyllenhaal has appeared in an eclectic range of films, including the indie film Sherrybaby (2006), for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe, the romantic comedy Trust the Man (2006) and big-budget films such as World Trade Center (2006) and The Dark Knight (2008). Gyllenhaal has also appeared in theatrical plays, including Closer (2000) and television productions including Strip Search (2004).
Gyllenhaal has been in a relationship with actor Peter Sarsgaard since 2002. In 2006, the two became engaged and Gyllenhaal gave birth to their daughter, Ramona, on October 3, 2006. On May 2, 2009 she married Sarsgaard in Italy. She is a politically active Democrat and, like her brother and parents, supports the American Civil Liberties Union. Prior to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq she participated in anti-war demonstrations. Gyllenhaal drew criticism in 2005 for her opinion that America was "responsible in some way" for the 9/11 attacks.[2] She is actively involved in human rights, civil liberty, and anti-poverty campaigns.
Early life
Gyllenhaal was born in New York City to film director Stephen Gyllenhaal and film producer and screenwriter Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal (née Achs). Jake Gyllenhaal, her younger brother, is also an actor. Her father was raised in the Swedenborgian religion and is of the Swedish noble Gyllenhaal family; her last purely Swedish ancestor was her great-great-grandfather, Leonard Gyllenhaal, a leading Swedenborgian who supported the printing and spreading of Swedenborg's writings. Her mother is from a Jewish family in New York City and is the ex-wife of Eric Foner, a history professor at Columbia University. Her parents, who married in 1977, filed for divorce in October 2008.
Gyllenhaal grew up in Los Angeles and studied at the Harvard–Westlake prep school. In 1995, she graduated from Harvard–Westlake and moved to New York to attend Columbia University, where she studied literature and Eastern religions; she graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, she had a summer job, working as a waitress in a Massachusetts restaurant.
Career
Early work
Gyllenhaal's first films – her feature film debut at the age of 15, Waterland (1992); A Dangerous Woman (1993); and Homegrown (1998) – were directed by her father; the last two also featured her brother, where they had supporting roles as children. With their mother, she and Jake appeared in two episodes of Molto Mario, an Italian cooking show on the Food Network. After graduating from college, she played supporting roles in films like Cecil B. Demented (2000) and Riding in Cars with Boys (2001). Gyllenhaal later achieved recognition in her own right playing her real brother's on-screen sister in the indie cult hit Donnie Darko (2001).
She made her theatrical debut in the Berkeley Repertory Theatre production of Patrick Marber's Closer, for which she received favorable reviews. Production started in May 2000 and ended in mid-July of that year. Gyllenhaal has performed in several other plays, including The Tempest, Antony and Cleopatra, The Butterfly Project, and No Exit.
2002–2005
Gyllenhaal's break-out role was in the black comedy Secretary (2002), a film about two people who embark on a mutually fulfilling BDSM lifestyle. New York Times critic Stephen Holden noted: "The role of Lee, which Maggie Gyllenhaal imbues with a restrained comic delicacy and sweetness, should make her a star." Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle wrote: "Maggie Gyllenhaal, as the self-destructive secretary, is enigmatic and, at moments, sympathetic." The film received generally favorable reviews, and Gyllenhaal's performance earned her the Best Breakthrough Performance award from the Online Film Critics Society, her first Golden Globe nomination, and an Independent Spirit Award nomination. Secretary was Gyllenhaal's first film role which featured full frontal nudity. Although impressed with the script, she initially had some qualms about doing the film, which she believed could deliver an antifeminist message. Yet after carefully discussing the script with the film's director, Steven Shainberg, she agreed to join the project. Although insisting Shainberg did not exploit her, Gyllenhaal has said she felt "scared when filming began" and that "in the wrong hands ... even in just slightly less intelligent hands, this movie could say something really weird." Since then, she is guarded about discussing her role in the film, saying only that "despite myself, sometimes the dynamic that you are exploring in your work spills over into your life."
She next played a supporting role in the comedy-drama Adaptation. (2002), a film that tells the story of screenwriter Charlie Kaufman's struggle to adapt The Orchid Thief into a film.[30] She later appeared in the unauthorized biography Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002), part of an ensemble cast that included Sam Rockwell, Drew Barrymore, George Clooney, and Julia Roberts. The movie grossed $33 million worldwide. That same year, she also had a smaller role in the comedy 40 Days and 40 Nights.
In 2003, she co-starred with Julia Roberts in Mona Lisa Smile in the role of Giselle. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, she revealed the reason for accepting the role was "to play somebody who feels confident in herself as a sexy, beautiful woman". The film generated mostly critical reviews, with Manohla Dargis of the Los Angeles Times describing it as "smug and reductive". Her next roles were in smaller independent films: Casa de los Babys (2003), a story about six American women impatiently waiting out their lengthy residency requirements in an unidentified South American country before picking up their adoptive babies, and Criminal (2004), a remake of the Argentinian film Nine Queens, with John C. Reilly and Diego Luna. Gyllenhaal played an honest hotel manager forced to help her crooked brother (Reilly) by seducing one of his victims. Gyllenhaal was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2004. She starred in the HBO film Strip Search (2004), where she portrayed an American student in China suspected of terrorism.
In 2004, Gyllenhaal returned to theater in a Los Angeles production of Tony Kushner's Homebody/ Kabul as Priscilla, the Homebody's daughter, who spends most of the play searching for her elusive mother in Kabul, Afghanistan. Kushner gave her the role in Homebody/ Kabul on the strength of her performance in Closer. Ben Brantley of The New York Times wrote: "Ms. Gyllenhaal provides the essential bridge between the parts of the play's title." John Heilpern of The New York Observer noted that Gyllenhaal's performance was "compelling". Viewed as a sex symbol, she was ranked in the "Hot 100 List" by Maxim magazine in 2004 and 2005.
Gyllenhaal's next film role was in the 2005 comedy-drama Happy Endings, in which she played an adventuress singer who seduces a young gay musician (Jason Ritter) as well as his rich father (Tom Arnold). She recorded songs for the movie's soundtrack, calling the role the "roughest, scariest acting ever" and adding she is more natural singing on screen than acting. Lisa Schwarzbaum of Entertainment Weekly declared Gyllenhaal's performance "as wonderfully, naturally slouchy-sexy as her character is artificial".
–present
Following Happy Endings, she starred in the 2006 films Trust the Man, Stranger than Fiction, Monster House, World Trade Center, and Sherrybaby. In Trust the Man, featuring Julianne Moore, David Duchovny, and Billy Crudup, she played Elaine, who has been dating Tobey, Crudup's character, for seven years and has begun to feel that it is time for her to settle down and start a family. The film was critically and financially unsuccessful. Ethan Alter of Premiere felt that the performances by Gyllenhaal and Duchovny were "much more at ease" and concluded with "that's probably because they're [sic] played these characters many times before". In Stranger than Fiction, Gyllenhaal played a love interest of Harold Crick, played by Will Ferrell. Her performance in the film received favorable reviews; Mike Straka of Fox News wrote: "Gyllenhaal has never been sexier in any film before and her interplay with Ferrell will propel her to more A-list films, leaving her indie-darling days behind, no doubt." She voiced Elizabeth "Zee" in the computer animated horror film Monster House. Gyllenhaal depicted Alison Jimeno, the wife of Port Authority officer Will Jimeno, in Oliver Stone's World Trade Center, based on the September 11 attacks on the same-title towers of New York City. She regarded this as "one of the films she most enjoyed making". The film received favorable reviews and proved to be an international success, earning $163 million worldwide.
In Sherrybaby, Gyllenhaal played a young, drug-addicted thief trying to put her life in order after prison so she can reconcile with her daughter. During promotion of the film, she noted of her portrayal of the character: "I think she's in such dire straights [sic] that all she has are these kind of naive, fierce hope. And while I was playing the part I was looking for pleasure and hope in everything, even in these really bleak things. And so it was really mostly after I finished the movie that I felt pain." Her performance in the film was well received: David Germain of the Associated Press wrote, "Gyllenhaal humanizes her so deeply and richly ... that Sherry elicits sympathy even in her darkest and weakest moments", and Dennis Harvey of Variety called her performance "naturalistic". For her work, Gyllenhaal earned her second Golden Globe Best Actress nomination and won the Best Actress category award at the 2006 Stockholm International Film Festival.
She appeared in The Dark Knight (2008), the sequel to Batman Begins (2005), in which she replaced Katie Holmes as Assistant District Attorney, Rachel Dawes. Gyllenhaal acknowledged her character was a damsel in distress to an extent, but said director Christopher Nolan sought ways to empower her character, so "Rachel's really clear about what's important to her and unwilling to compromise her morals, which made a nice change" from the many conflicted characters she had previously portrayed. The Dark Knight was a big financial and critical success, setting a new opening weekend box office record for North America. With revenue of $1 billion worldwide, it became the fourth highest grossing film of all time, and Gyllenhaal's highest grossing film to the end of 2008. In a Salon.com review of the film, Stephanie Zacharek called Gyllenhaal's character "a tough cookie in a Stanwyck-style bias-cut gown" and stated that "the movie feels smarter and more supple when she's on-screen". IGN film critic Todd Gilchrist wrote, "Gyllenhaal adds real depth and energy to Rachel Dawes."
Gyllenhaal played Yelena in the Classic Stage Company's 2009 Off Broadway production of Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya in New York City. The cast also included Peter Sarsgaard, Mamie Gummer, Denis O'Hare, and George Morfogen. The production, directed by Austin Pendleton, began previews on January 17 and ended its limited run on March 1. Joe Dziemianowicz of the New York Daily News, was somewhat less enthusiastic with her performance, writing: "Gyllenhaal, who was so dynamic as a druggie in the film Sherrybaby, plays Yelena with a slow-mo saunter and monotonous pasted-on smile that makes it seem as if she's been in Sherry's stash. However, Malcolm Johnson of the Hartford Courant was complimentary towards her, noting that she "ultimately blossoms" as the character.
Gyllenhaal agreed to appear in the comedy film Away We Go, where she plays a bohemian college professor who is an old friend of John Krasinski's character. The film generated broadly mixed reviews, with Owen Gleiberman of Entertainment Weekly describing Gyllenhaal's subplot as "over-the-top". However, A. O. Scott of the New York Times praised Gyllenhaal and co-star Allison Janney for their performances, writing that "both [are] quite funny". Scott concluded with, "Ms. Gyllenhaal’s line about sex roles in 'the seahorse community' is the screenplay’s one clean satirical bull’s-eye". Away We Go was screened at the 2009 Edinburgh International Film Festival. In addition, she will appear alongside Jeff Bridges and Robert Duvall in the drama Crazy Heart] scheduled for release in December 2009. Gyllenhaal has also signed to appear in Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, set for a release in 2010, the sequel to the 2005 film Nanny McPhee. The role requires her to speak in an English accent.
Personal life
Gyllenhaal has been in a relationship with actor Peter Sarsgaard, a close friend of her brother Jake, since 2002. In April 2006 they announced their engagement. They have a daughter Ramona, born October 3, 2006, and live in Brooklyn, New York. On May 2, 2009, Gyllenhaal and Sarsgaard were married in a small chapel in Brindisi, Italy.
Gyllenhaal is politically active. At the 18th Independent Spirit Awards, she spoke out against the Iraq war, stating the reason for the invasion was "oil and imperialism". Gyllenhaal also took part in Artists United to Win Without War, a campaign started by Robert Greenwald with the aim of advancing progressive causes and voicing opposition to the Iraq war. She and her brother Jake filmed a commercial for Rock the Vote and visited the University of Southern California (USC) campus to encourage students to vote in the 2004 U.S. presidential election, in which she supported John Kerry. Gyllenhaal supported Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election. She has campaigned on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), an organization her family strongly supports.
Besides acting, she has modeled for Miu Miu, Reebok, and Agent Provocateur, and recorded the first unabridged audiobook version of Sylvia Plath's novel The Bell Jar. Gyllenhaal is a supporter of Witness, a non-profit organization that uses video and online technologies to expose human rights violations. She co-hosted a benefit dinner with founder Peter Gabriel in November 2007. Gyllenhaal helped raise funds for TrickleUp.org, a non-profit organization that helps impoverished people start a micro-enterprise. For one of the fundraisers, Gyllenhaal helped design and promote a necklace that sold for $100; all proceeds from sales went to the charity. In October 2008 she hosted a fashion show event called "Fashionably Natural", which was presented by Gen Art and SoyJoy in Los Angeles. The show featured four up-and-coming designers who only worked with all-natural and eco-friendly fabrics and materials.
Comments on 9/11 attacks
Gyllenhaal drew criticism for comments on the September 11 attacks made during an interview with NY1 at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival. She remarked, "I think America has done reprehensible things and is responsible in some way..." In response to the criticism, she issued a statement saying that 9/11 was "an occasion to be brave enough to ask some serious questions about America's role in the world" and that it was "useful as individuals or nations to ask how we may have knowingly or unknowingly contributed to this conflict." She pointedly denied saying that the 9/11 attacks were deserved. Gyllenhaal later said that she regretted her comments and asserted that film interviews were not the "right place" to discuss politics. Gyllenhaal also said that she had "nothing but gratitude and admiration" for firefighters and that she should have "been more gentle and more thoughtful" in her comments.
Gyllenhaal eventually met with Port Authority officer Will Jimeno and his wife, Allison, whom Gyllenhaal depicted in the 2006 film World Trade Center. She said she would have left the project if the Jimenos wanted, but Allison Jimeno expressed the opinion that she and her husband were comfortable with her and "had no problem with her in [the] movie"

Birth name Janine Marie Lindemulder

Height 5 ft 8 in
Weight 125 lb
Hair colour Blonde (dyed)
Ethnicity Dutch/German
Janine Marie Lindemulder, also known as Janine Marie James, (born November 14, 1968) is an American exotic dancer and adult film actress, best known for her work in American pornographic films (typically credited as just Janine), during the mid-1990s and a 2004–2005 comeback.
Early career
She was born in La Mirada, California. After graduating from high school in 1987, Lindemulder supplemented her income by working as a stripper. In 1987, she modeled for Penthouse magazine, making her first appearance in the December 1987 issue, as the Pet of the Month. She appeared several more times in Penthouse over the next ten years, and was chosen as Pet of the Year Runner-Up for 1990.
Janine attempted to take roles in mainstream films early in her career. Her first role came in the 1988 Italian film titled Bersaglio sull'autostrada. Known as Moving Target in English-speaking countries, Janine was credited as Janine Linde and the film also starred Linda Blair of The Exorcist fame. She went on to act in other mainstream films including Spring Break USA and Caged Fury although neither was very successful. Her appearance in Penthouse led to a role in a video released by that company titled Penthouse Satin & Lace that featured various models from the magazine. This eventually led to her debut in the adult film industry.
Adult film career
Lindemulder made her adult film debut in the 1992 movie Andrew Blake´s Hidden Obsessions. She was featured in two more adult movies before joining Vivid Video and becoming one of their contract girls, who are collectively referred to as the Vivid Girls.[ Within her contract, Janine worked under a girl-only policy which meant she would do adult work only with other women; this became her trademark of sorts. Her first film with Vivid was titled Parlor Games and she would go on to be featured in over fifty other titles through her run with the company. She was named as the best actress of lesbian scenes. Many women claimed that they wanted to have sex with her.
During her tenure with Vivid, Janine continued to branch out into other forms of entertainment. She formed half of the exotic dancing duo Blondage, along with Julia Ann, and the duo headlined several videos for Vivid. Janine received a part on the Howard Stern film Private Parts as the wife of a camp director. She also appeared on Stern's television and radio shows as a featured guest. Lindemulder was the cover model for Blink-182's album Enema of the State and appeared in their video for the song "What's My Age Again?" as a nurse. She appeared in several other music videos as well.
In 1999, Janine announced she was leaving the adult film industry to pursue a career as a kindergarten teacher. She also stated her reason for leaving was to focus more on raising her child. Her retirement lasted until April 2004 when she announced that she would be making a comeback and working with men as well as women. She signed with her former company, Vivid Video, and starred in eight films under their brand. Her first film scene with a male was with Nick Manning in the film Maneater. After her contract with Vivid expired, Janine signed with Digital Playground and was featured in several films from that company. In November 2005, Lindemulder announced on her official website's forum that she was once again retiring from adult films but in January 2006 she won two AVN Awards and subsequently returned to the adult film industry. Her latest film stars another well-known porn star, Jenna Jameson, in Janine Loves Jenna, which debuted in April 2007.
Personal life
Lindemulder was married to a former construction worker from 1988 to 1996. They had a son named Tyler in 1991. Following this marriage, Lindemulder dated Headbanger's Ball host Riki Rachtman and rock musician Vince Neil. A homemade video tape of Lindemulder, Neil, and actress/former Penthouse Pet Brandy Ledford (who was mosaically-obscured) was leaked and eventually released by the same company that distributed the infamous sex video made by Canadian-born actress/former Playboy model Pamela Anderson and then-husband rock musician Tommy Lee. The explicit footage of Lindemulder engaged in intercourse with Neil predated her "official" boy-girl video debut by several years.
Lindemulder re-married in 2002, to West Coast Choppers founder Jesse G. James. Their marriage was documented in the Discovery Channel special Motorcycle Mania 3. The presentation showed a wide range of their relationship: from the marriage ceremony, to Lindemulder throwing a vase at James and being arrested for abuse. Lindemulder and James later divorced, and Lindemulder gave birth to their daughter, Sunny James, on January 1, 2004. Jesse James and his now wife Sandra Bullock are currently in a custody battle with Lindemulder for their daughter Sunny.
Lindemulder is a relative of adult entertainer and figure model Kelly Madison.
Between her first retirement and return, Lindemulder had extensive tattoo work done.
In August 2008, Lindemulder pled guilty to federal charges of willful failure to pay federal income taxes. She had failed to pay over $200,000 in back taxes. She had made a down payment on a $647,000 house and bought two new vehicles, despite being aware of her tax debt. She faced up to one year in prison, and a $100,000 fine.
In December 2008, Lindemulder was sentenced to six months in federal prison. The sentencing judge ordered that she live in a residential community corrections center for up to six months after her release from prison, and, one year of supervised release after that. She was also ordered to pay the estimated $294,000 owed to the U.S. government. She was incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution at Victorville, near Adelanto, California, and was released on July 13, 2009. She was planning to blog from prison by writing letters to her webmaster and complete her GED. She also planned to write books about her lesbian sex with other inmates.

Interview
Hello Kirsten, for those who might not know you, what is your name and please describe yourself?
My name is Kirsten Price. I am 5'5" 105 lbs with reddish brown hair and brown eyes. My measurements are 34C-24-34 and I'm one hell of a good time.
What was it like when Wicked said they wanted to sign you to a contract? Was it something you were seeking or did it come as a surprise?
I wasn;t necessarily looking for a contract when I was approached by Wicked, but I was very interested in one. I was doing a lot of girl/girl scenes and working with my ex so I had to kind of step outside of my box, no pun intended, and take the leap into doing boy/girl. It was the best decision I have ever made. I wouldn;t ever want to be with another company.
Your character in 2040 is Kimi AKA Special K? Please tell us about Kimi's character in the movie?
Kimi is kind of a rebel which is something I can totally identify with being quite the little rebel myself. She is the assistant to an underground scientist/anabot builder named Morris, played by Marcus London. Kimi definitely has a funky style which I like to refer to as Rainbow not so bright because I wear a lot of colors in my hair and on my face but Kimi is still sort of dark and underground
What is the best part of making one of the big fall releases for Wicked?
I think the best part is just getting to work with all the girls and collaborating on something that we all know is going to turn out really amazing in the end. I also love the cool wardrobe and hair and make up we get to wear while transforming into our character. I like that I got to play an edgier character and show my versatility.
How many scenes do you have in this movie and did you have a favorite?
I had two sex scenes. One is with Eric Masterson who plays an anabot that I am working on and the other being the huge orgy scene. The orgy scene was my favorite because I hadn't had sex in awhile, so I was super horny 'and ready to get off! I squirted three times and it was the first time I had ever squirted on camera, it was a milestone for me.
Earlier this year, House of Wicked, was released featuring all of the Wicked Girls. What was it like being part of this project?
It was absolutely amazing. I especially loved my scene with Kris Slater and Alan Stafford. Our set up had a cruel intentions/boarding school kid's gone bad vibe. It was also the first time I had ever done two boys at the same time not only on camera but also off camera. I think we have the best group of contract girls, so to get us all together in the same movie is a pretty big deal.
Do you have any ambitions to write and/or direct movies?
I would definitely love to write scripts. I am actually throwing some ideas around right now. When it comes to directing though, I'm on the fence. I always said it wasn't something I was interested in doing but now I'm finding myself leaning more in that direction. What I would like to direct would probably be all sex movies, very stylized with a woman
On top of the many personal appearances you also feature dance. What are the fans like when you go to these events?
The fans are great. They bring me gifts and things to sign. I love it when I get a chance to sit down and talk to my fans even if just for a few minutes to find out what that like/dislike about my movies and just get to know them a little better.
Is there one person that you haven't shot with yet or worked with at one time that you would love to get in front of the camera with again? If so, who?
Manuel Ferrara. We just did a scene together recently and he just blew my mind. I wouldn't mind working with him everyday!
Can you share a silly or embarrassing story for your fans?
I was doing a scene with Eric Masterson and jessica drake for the movie Tasty. It was a baker scene in the kitchen and I was feeling quite silly that day. I took one of the metal bowls from off the counter and put it on my head while I put one of my legs up on the counter and pretended like I was fucking, when I fell off my giant stripper heel and took everything off the counter with me! It was pretty awesome and I think they got it on behind the scenes.

However, at the age of fifteen she decided not to become a nun after learning that her brother, Michael, is gay. Despite her Catholic upbringing, she felt that she could not be part of a religion that disapproved of her brother's sexual orientation. She has stated that she is a non-denominational Christian because she hasn't "found the religion" for her.
As a child, Hathaway was involved in a Montessori program as a preschooler and was then able to enter first grade while she was technically still a kindergartner. Hathaway graduated from Millburn High School where she participated in many school plays; her high school performance as Winifred in Once Upon a Mattress garnered her a New Jersey Rising Star Award nomination for Best Performance by a High School Actress. During this time, Hathaway was also involved in plays such as Jane Eyre and Gigi at New Jersey's Papermill Playhouse (which is located in Millburn, across the street from Hathaway's middle school). She spent several semesters studying as an English major and Women's Studies minor at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, before transferring to New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study. She referred to her college enrollment as one of her best decisions, because she enjoyed being with others who were trying to "grow up." Hathaway was a member of the Barrow Group Theater Company's acting program and was the first teenager ever admitted into the program. She is a trained stage actress and has stated that she prefers performing on stage to film roles.
A soprano, Hathaway performed in 1998 and 1999 with the All-Eastern U.S. High School Honors Chorus at Carnegie Hall and has performed in plays at Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, NJ. Three days after her 1999 performance at Carnegie Hall, she was cast in the short-lived Fox television series Get Real, at the age of sixteen.
2001–04: Career development
Hathaway's first role in a motion picture was as Jean Sabin in The Other Side of Heaven, opposite Christopher Gorham. Before production of Heaven began in New Zealand, she auditioned for the lead role of Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries, directed by Garry Marshall. Hathaway auditioned for the role during a flight layover on the way to New Zealand and won the role after only one audition. Marshall claimed that he loved her immediately because she fell off her chair during the audition and believed her clumsiness would make her perfect for the role. (However, in a 2008 conversation with Steve Carell, Hathaway denied that she fell during this audition, although she openly admits to being a "klutz".) The Princess Diaries was released before The Other Side of Heaven in the hopes that its success would increase interest in Heaven. Across the world, The Princess Diaries was a commercial success, and a sequel was planned shortly after. Many critics praised Hathaway's performance in Diaries; a BBC critic noted that "Hathaway shines in the title role and generates great chemistry." The Other Side of Heaven was received weakly by critics, but it performed well for a religion-themed film.
In February 2002, Hathaway starred opposite Brian Stokes Mitchell in the City Center Encores! concert production of Carnival! in New York City, receiving positive reviews for her portrayal of Lili. Also in 2002, Hathaway began voicing the audio book releases of The Princess Diaries and has since voiced the first three books of the series. She also provided the voice of the character Haru in the English version of Hiroyuki Morita's The Cat Returns.
Hathaway continued to appear in family-oriented films over the next three years, subsequently becoming known in mainstream media as a children's role model. In 2002, she appeared in Nicholas Nickleby, opposite Charlie Hunnam and Jamie Bell, which opened to positive reviews. The Northwest Herald referred to it as "an unbelievably fun film," and the Deseret News said that the cast was "Oscar-worthy." Despite critical acclaim, the film never entered wide release and failed at the North American box office, totaling less than US$4-million in ticket sales.
Hathaway's next film role was as the titular character in Ella Enchanted (2004), the film adaptation of the novel, which opened to mostly indifferent reviews. Hathaway sang two songs in the film as well as three on the soundtrack.
In 2004, Hathaway was set to star opposite Gerard Butler in The Phantom of the Opera, but was forced to turn down the role because the production schedule of the film overlapped with that of The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, which she was contractually obligated to make. Disney began production on The Princess Diaries 2 in early 2004, and it was released in August of that year. The film opened to negative reviews, but still managed to peak higher at the box office than its predecessor, commissioning $95.1-million against a $40-million budget.
2005–07: Career transition
Hathaway began appearing in more dramatic roles after The Princess Diaries 2. She said that "anybody who was a role model for children needs a reprieve," although she also noted that "it's lovely to think that my audience is growing up with me", a reference to her previous status as a children's actress. She voiced Little Red Riding Hood in Hoodwinked! (2005), which received generally positive reviews. That same year, Hathaway starred in the R-rated Havoc, in which she played a spoiled socialite. In a surprise move, Hathaway was featured in several nude and sexual scenes throughout the film. Although the content of the movie was radically different from her previous films, Hathaway denied that her role in the film was a blatant attempt to be seen as more of a mature actress, citing her belief that doing nudity in certain movies is merely a part of what her chosen form of art demands of her; and because of that belief she does not consider appearing nude in appropriate films to be morally objectionable.
After Havoc, Hathaway appeared opposite Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal in the drama Brokeback Mountain, in a role that further displayed her development as a dramatic actor. Havoc was not released in theaters in the United States (but was later released in other countries) because of its weak critical reception, but Brokeback Mountain won rave reviews for its depiction of a homosexual relationship in the 1960s and received several Academy Award nominations. Hathaway would later assert that the content of Brokeback Mountain was more important than its award count and that making the film made her more aware of the kind of stories she wanted to tell as an actress.
Hathaway's next film was the 2006 comedy The Devil Wears Prada, in which she starred as an assistant to a powerful fashion magazine editor portrayed by Meryl Streep, whom Hathaway described as being "just divine." Hathaway said that working on the film made her respect the fashion industry a great deal more than she had previously, though she also claimed that her personal style is something she "still can't get right."
In an interview with Us Weekly, Hathaway spoke about her weight loss for the film, stating, "I basically stuck with fruit, vegetables and fish [to slim down for the movie]. I wouldn’t recommend that. Emily Blunt and I would clutch at each other and cry because we were so hungry."
Hathaway was initially cast in the 2007 comedy Knocked Up, but dropped out before filming began and was replaced by Katherine Heigl. Writer/director Judd Apatow stated in a May 2007 issue of The New York Times Magazine that Hathaway dropped out "because she didn't want to allow us to use real footage of a woman giving birth to create the illusion that she is giving birth." In an August 2008 interview with Marie Claire magazine, Hathaway commented that she "didn't believe that it was necessary to the story."
Hathaway was next seen in the 2007 drama Becoming Jane, in which she portrayed English writer Jane Austen. Also in 2007, Hathaway performed a selection from the musical Saturday Night for Stephen Sondheim's 75th Birthday and ASCAP Foundation Concert.
Tim Burton considered Hathaway for the part of Johanna in his 2007 film Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, but the role went to Jayne Wisener, a then-unknown actress, reportedly because Burton decided he wanted an unknown actress for the part.
2008–present: Recent and future projects
Hathaway's first film of 2008 was a modern adaptation of the 1960s Mel Brooks television series Get Smart, in which she starred opposite Steve Carell, Dwayne Johnson, and Alan Arkin. The film was a hit at the box office and received mostly positive reviews, prompting talk of a sequel. She also made a cameo appearance in the corresponding film Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd: Out of Control. In October 2008, she premiered the drama Passengers, alongside Patrick Wilson, as well as the drama Rachel Getting Married, opposite Debra Winger. Rachel Getting Married premiered at the 2008 Venice and Toronto Film Festivals and garnered her widespread critical acclaim for her performance as Kym, including nominations for both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe. Hathaway stated that the film appealed to her because of its real depiction of relationships and because of the strong emotional connection she felt with her character.
Hathaway most recently appeared in the comedy Bride Wars, released on January 9, 2009, in which she starred opposite Kate Hudson. Hathaway has described the film as "hideously commercial – gloriously so." She appeared with Hudson on the February/March 2009 cover of Modern Bride despite her admission that she is "not the type of girl who dreams about her wedding." Her future film projects include a Tim Burton-directed adaptation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass alongside Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp, the romantic comedy The Fiancé, and an adaptation of the Julie Buxbaum novel The Opposite of Love. Hathaway is also set to return to the stage in the summer of 2009, appearing as Viola in an open-air production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, which will be run at the Delacorte Theater in New York's Central Park.
In January 2008, Hathaway joined beauty giant Lancôme as the face of their fragrance Magnifique. In October of that year, Hathaway hosted Saturday Night Live, with musical guest The Killers.
Hathaway is scheduled to provide her voice in an episode of The Simpsons titled "The Good, the Sad and the Drugly", expected to air in 2009.
Personal life
Hathaway is involved with various charities, including The Creative Coalition, The Step Up Women's Network, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The Human Rights Campaign, and The Lollipop Theatre Network, an organization that screens films to critically ill children. In 2008, she was honored at Elle magazine's "Women in Hollywood" tribute, and has also been honored for her work with The Step Up Women's Network and The Human Rights Campaign.
In early 2007, Hathaway spoke of her experiences with depression during her teenage years, saying that she eventually overcame the disorder without medication.
In a fall 2008 appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, Hathaway noted that she had once again stopped smoking. The actress, who had begun smoking "heavily" while filming Rachel Getting Married, had "quit for a while", but had started again in the wake of her stressful summer and the end of her relationship with Raffaello Follieri. She credited the decline in her stress level to quitting smoking. She also declared her return to being a vegetarian.
As of November 2008, Hathaway is reportedly in a relationship with actor Adam Shulman.
In regard to personal strife and subsequent media attention, Hathaway's self-subscribed mantra is a quote by Oscar Wilde: "The less said about life's sores the better."
Relationship with Raffaello Follieri
In 2004, Hathaway began a relationship with Italian real estate developer Raffaello Follieri. During their relationship, Hathaway took part in the development of the charitable Follieri Foundation, serving as a financial donor as well as a member of the foundation's board of directors until 2007. A Manhattan-based charity founded in 2003 focusing on programs such as providing vaccinations for children in Third World nations, the organization had come under investigation in early June 2008 by the IRS, reportedly for failing to file tax papers required from non-profit organizations. Citing the fear that this and other ongoing legal issues involving Follieri would become detrimental to her acting career (as well as for her own ethical reasons), Hathaway ended her relationship with Follieri in mid-June 2008.
Follieri was arrested in June 2008 on fraud charges for allegedly fleecing investors out of millions of dollars in a scheme involving purchasing Catholic Church properties in the U.S. for redevelopment. Court papers state that Hathaway was an unwitting beneficiary of the stolen money, which had in large part paid for Follieri's opulent lifestyle of jet-setting, shopping sprees, and fine dining. It was reported that the FBI had confiscated Hathaway's private journals from Follieri's New York City apartment as part of their ongoing investigation into Follieri's activities; however, Hathaway was never implicated in any wrongdoing from the events.
In the October 2008 issue of W Magazine, Hathaway spoke for the first time of the break-up and Follieri's subsequent arrest. She related that she "spent a week in shock" after Follieri's arrest, and credited the kindness of friends for her ability to keep working during such difficult times.

Calista Kay Flockhart is an American actress, primarily on television. She is best known for playing the title character of Ally McBeal (1997–2002). She now plays Sally Field's feuding daughter, Kitty Walker, on the ABC drama, Brothers & Sisters.
Early life
Calista Flockhart was born in Freeport, Illinois, the daughter of Kay, a teacher of English, and Ronald Flockhart, an executive for Kraft Foods. Calista has English, Irish and Italian ethnicity. She has one older brother, Gary. Her mother, Kay Calista, reversed her own first and middle names in naming her Calista Kay. Calista also had a great- grandmother named "Calista." (The name "Calista" is an Anglicized version of a Greek word which means "most beautiful." An alternate Anglicization or spelling of that Greek word is kallista. Despite having a name of Greek origin, Flockhart does not have any Greek ancestry.)
Because her father's job required the family to move often, Flockhart was raised with her brother in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, and New Jersey. As a child, she wrote a play called Toyland in which she performed to a small audience at a dinner party.
Flockhart attended Shawnee High School in Medford Township, New Jersey. Following her graduation in 1983, Flockhart attended the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. While there, she attended a specialized and competitive class, lasting from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. In her sophomore year at Rutgers, Flockhart met aspiring actress Jane Krakowski, the best friend of her roommate. Later they would both work together on Ally McBeal.
Flockhart's acting ability was recognized when William Esper (Mason Gross' theatre director and Flockhart's acting teacher) made an exception to policy by allowing Flockhart to perform on the main stage. Though this venue is usually reserved for juniors and seniors, Harold Scott insisted that Flockhart perform there in his production of William Inge's Picnic. Flockhart graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theatre in 1988 as one of only a few students who successfully completed the course. She was inducted into the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni on May 3, 2003.
After receiving her degree, Flockhart moved to New York City in 1989 where she remained until 1997, living with three other women in a two-bedroom apartment and working as a waitress and aerobics instructor while she simultaneously sought auditions.
Career
Early career
In spring 1989, Flockhart made her first television appearance in a minor role in an episode of Guiding Light as a babysitter. She made her professional debut on the New York stage, appearing in Beside Herself alongside Melissa Joan Hart at the Circle Repertory Theatre. Two years later, Flockhart appeared in the television movie Darrow. Though she later appeared in films Naked in New York (1993) and Getting In (1994), her first substantial speaking part in a film was in Quiz Show, directed by Robert Redford.
Flockhart debuted on Broadway in 1994, as Laura in The Glass Menagerie. Actor Julie Harris felt Flockhart should be hired without further auditions, claiming that she seemed ideal for the part. Flockhart received a Clarence Derwent Award for her performance. In 1995, Flockhart became acquainted with actors such as Dianne Wiest and Faye Dunaway when she appeared in the movie Drunks. Later that year, Flockhart starred in Jane Doe as a drug addict. In 1996, Flockhart appeared as the daughter of Dianne Wiest and Gene Hackman's characters in The Birdcage. Throughout that year, she continued to work on Broadway, playing the role of Natasha in Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters.

Main article: Ally McBeal
In 1997 Flockhart was requested to audition for the starring role in David E. Kelley's FOX television series, Ally McBeal. Kelley, having heard of Flockhart, wanted her to audition for the contract part. Though Flockhart at first hesitated due to the necessary commitment to the show in a negotiable contract, she was swayed by the script and travelled to Los Angeles to audition for the part, which she won. She earned a Golden Globe Award for the role in 1998. Flockhart also appeared on the June 29, 1998, cover of Time magazine, placed as the newest iteration in the evolution of feminism, relating to the ongoing debate about the role depicted by her character.
Throughout her professional career, Flockhart has maintained her natural thin figure. However many have commented that Flockhart had become dangerously too thin, particularly when the actress made red carpet appearances in clothing that showed her excessively thin build. She had maintained throughout the show's run that she has never been diagnosed with either anorexia or bulimia, nor has she been a user of illegal drugs. She did remark, however, that while starring in the show she refrained from eating sweets, retaining her slim figure by working out. She has now admitted that she had a problem at the time, and was "exercising too much" and "eating too little".
Other work
Flockhart played the role of Helena in the 1999 film version of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. In 2000, she appeared in Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her and Bash: Latter-Day Plays, later accompanying Eve Ensler to Kenya in order to protest violence against women, particularly female genital mutilation. Flockhart also starred in the off-Broadway production of Ensler's The Vagina Monologues.
In 2004, Flockhart appeared as Matthew Broderick's deranged girlfriend in The Last Shot. In the same year, Flockhart travelled to Spain for the filming of Fragile, which premiered in September 2005 at the Venice Film Festival.
She was offered the role of Susan Mayer on Desperate Housewives, but declined. The role went to Teri Hatcher. Flockhart currently co-stars as communication advisor Kitty Walker, opposite Sally Field, Rachel Griffiths and Matthew Rhys, in the ABC TV prime time series Brothers & Sisters, which premiered in September 2006 in the time slot after Desperate Housewives.
Personal life
Flockhart is currently the national spokesperson for Peace Over Violence. She is the longtime partner of Harrison Ford and has a son, Liam, whom she adopted as a newborn in 2001. In March 2009 it was reported that the couple is engaged after more than 7 years together.

Miranda Lambert

Miranda Lambert
Born: 10-Nov-1983
Birthplace: Lindale, TX
Gender: Female
Race or Ethnicity: White
Occupation: Country Musician
Nationality: United States
Executive summary: Kerosene
Father: Rick Lambert
Mother: Bev
Miranda Lambert is an American country music artist who gained fame as a finalist on the 2003 season of Nashville Star, where she finished in third place and later signed to Epic Records. Lambert made her debut with the release of "Me and Charlie Talking", the first single from her 2005 debut album Kerosene. This album, which was certified Platinum in the United States, also produced the singles "Bring Me Down", "Kerosene", and "New Strings". All four singles were Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.
After the closure of Epic's Nashville division, Lambert was transferred to Columbia Records Nashville for her second album, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which was released in early 2007. Although its first single (the title track) failed to make top 40, the next three singles ("Famous in a Small Town", "Gunpowder & Lead", and "More Like Her") were all Top 20 hits, with "Gunpowder & Lead" becoming her first Top 10 country hit in July 2008.
Miranda Lambert grew up in Lindale, Texas. Her father, Richard Lee "Rick" Lambert, is a retired police officer who in later life became a private investigator in partnership with her mother, Beverly June Lambert(nee Hughes). Miranda was taught about guns by her father at an early age and later became an avid deer hunter. Her parents took her to a Garth Brooks concert when she was nine and this started her interest in country music. Her father wrote and performed country music and she soon began singing in talent contests under his tutelage.
At age sixteen, Lambert began appearing on the Johnny High Country Music Review in Arlington, Texas, the same show that helped launch the career of LeAnn Rimes. Lambert quickly landed a recording session in Nashville, but left the studio after she became frustrated with the "pop" sound of music. She then went back to Texas and asked her dad to teach her how to play guitar so she could write her own songs.
While still in high school, Lambert made her professional singing debut. She fronted the house band at the Reo Palm Isle Ballroom in Longview, Texas, a long-running venue that has showcased Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson.
Music career

On September 19, 2005, Rebecca announced her engagement to actor Jerry O'Connell. The date of the announcement was controversial, as it would have been her seventh anniversary with Stamos, if not for their divorce.

In February 2007, Hauserman revealed in an exclusive interview that she would spend her half of the money: "I’m going to go to Disneyland and go on vacation, and get my hair done." However, during a phone interview in September 2008, Hauserman was asked what she had done with the Beauty and the Geek money and she said she put all of it, $125,000, towards her mortgage.
Rock of Love with Bret Michaels
Hauserman was also a contestant on the second season of VH1's Rock of Love with Bret Michaels. Megan said that she discovered the show from an advertisement on Craigslist: "I had just seen an ad on Craigslist and I went to an open call in Chicago at a restaurant in which the casting people were traveling all over the country and accepting videos from all over the world. And they picked me out of thousands of applicants." She appeared on eleven of the fourteen episodes in the second season. Megan was eliminated in the ninth episode because Michaels never felt a real "connection" with her, leaving her in fifth place.
In an interview with The Jacksonville Observer she stated, "I really was heartbroken over him (Bret Michaels) for a long time. I went on there and I did fall in love with him, but we remain friends."
I Love Money
Hauserman was a contestant on the first season of VH1's I Love Money, a reality show where 17 former contestants from Rock of Love, Flavor of Love, and I Love New York compete for a $250,000 cash prize. On the first episode when she was asked what she would do with the money if she won the competition, she stated that she wants to help "mentally challenged" dogs, and that she adopted a mentally challenged dog, a chihuahua named Lily. She quit the competition in the thirteenth episode (the finale) when it was revealed that she would have to face a jury of former contestants whom she had a part in eliminating. She finished the competition in third place. Hauserman stated in her exit interview that she was happy with her decision to quit not only because it stopped her contestants from getting the satisfaction of payback, but also that she was happy that she stopped everyone she didn't want to win the money and that she was satisfied with whoever won the money in the top three. Hauserman also stated that she never thought that she would win the money, and that she came simply to have fun and play the game to the best of her ability. On the I Love Money reunion special, Megan said that there were no rules opposing the way she played the game, so she used her brain to out-smart people, because it was her given talent.
Rock of Love: Charm School
Hauserman was a contestant in VH1's Rock of Love: Charm School, a reality show where 14 former Rock of Love contestants must learn to abandon their improper old ways and develop proper etiquette in order to compete for $100,000 and the title, Charm School Queen. The show premiered October 12, 2008 and is hosted by Sharon Osbourne. She appeared on seven of the twelve episodes, despite getting expelled in the fourth episode for kicking fellow classmate, and later winner, Brandi Mahon. Megan finished in tenth place.
Hauserman has filed a lawsuit against Sharon Osbourne, claiming battery, negligence and infliction of emotional distress, over an incident occurring during the taping of the twelfth episode, the reunion special, after Hauserman made derogatory comments about Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne.
Megan Wants a Millionaire
Hauserman's own VH1 reality dating show, titled Megan Wants a Millionaire, premiered August 2, 2009 on VH1. Hauserman stated in the interview that she is looking for "a mature guy that can handle me and doesn't cry" and states "He doesn't have to be rich; he has to be stable." Hauserman said she is taking the show seriously, it will be "very real". Hauserman's best friends, Brandi Cunningham (who appeared with Hauserman on I Love Money and Rock of Love: Charm School) and Cecille Gahr (who lost to Megan in the finale of Beauty and the Geek 3) appear on Megan Wants a Millionaire to support her and help her with her decisions.
On August 21, 2009, VH1 announced that the show had been cancelled after only airing three episodes, because contestant Ryan Jenkins was a suspect in the murder of Jasmine Fiore. Hauserman has been audibly interviewed on the subject by AOL and TMZ. Megan Hauserman also has been interviewed by People, stating that the Jenkins-Fiore situation has "...been a very challenging time, I'm happy to move forward at this point. It's been a very upsetting, sad, tragic situation that nobody could have expected."

Trishelle Cannatella
Born November 4, 1979
Location Cut Off, Louisiana
Trishelle Cannatella (born November 4, 1979) is an American actress, reality TV contestant, and Playboy model.
Biography
Cannatella was born on November 4, 1979, and raised in Cut Off, Louisiana. She is of French and Italian ancestry. She was raised as a Southern Baptist, and has described herself as a "momma's girl." Her mother, a devout Christian, took her family to church three or four times a week. When she was 14, her mother died from a brain tumor. Cannatella was on several athletic teams throughout her high school career at South Lafourche High School, but after her mother had died, Cannatella began rebelling by associating with an unsavory crowd, acting the part of the "bad girl."
During her senior year of high school, however, she began to associate with a more respectable group of friends who "took her under their wing". After visiting her sister Buffy at The University of Southern Mississippi, Cannatella decided on that college, which she began attending at age 17, majoring in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in English. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority.
Reality career
The Real World
Sullen about the impending need to pay back her student loans as her graduation neared in 2002, Cannatella heard a radio ad for a show called Lost in the U.S., which offered a $50,000 prize. She wore a low-cut shirt and boots to the interview in order to gain favor and cut her way through the line to the front, telling those in charge that she was told to do this. Later, she was notified that the show was canceled, but was asked if she wanted to audition for The Real World: Las Vegas, the twelfth season of the long-running reality show, which would later air in 2002-2003. She accepted, but perceived the questions she was asked during the audition process to be part of an attempt by the producers' part to cast her as the stereotypical racist cast member, and later, in light of the questions they asked about her religion, as the "holy roller". Cannatella was selected as a cast member. During her stay, she and her roommates worked in the hotel and clubs. On one of their first few nights in the suite, Cannatella enjoyed a three-way makeout session with castmates Steven Hill and Brynn Smith in the hot tub, which a producer would later cite as a sign that this season would be a successful one. Cannatella and her fellow castmates felt pressure from the producers to act out for the cameras in order to make appealing television, saying that she was asked leading questions by the producers about her plans on certain nights. She also notes that alcohol was made readily available to the cast, which she pointed out in light of the fact that alcoholism runs in her family.
During the season of Road Rules: Campus Crawl, which was filmed at the same time as The Real World: Las Vegas, the cast members from the two shows faced off against each other in a series of challenges.
In May 2007, she appeared on the reunion show, Reunited: The Real World Las Vegas. Cannatella was also a member of the Real World team during the Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet, but was sent home during the tenth episode when she lost a gauntlet to Sarah Greyson. During the show, she had an on-screen romance with Mike Mizanin. Their romance caused tension between Mizanin and his friend Coral Smith, who felt that Mizanin was influenced by his relationship with Cannatella in making tactical decisions during the competition. Their feud culminated in Mizanin voting Coral into the "Gauntlet". Mike and Cannatella would later break up, and after a period of tension, become friends. Another notable moment during The Gauntlet occurred when she fell off of her bicycle and had to be sent to the hospital.
Other reality work
In 2005, Cannatella was a part of the reality show Kill Reality which chronicled the making of the movie The Scorned. She has also appeared in an episode of the reality show that punks celebrities, Punk'd, hosted by Ashton Kutcher.
Cannatella appeared on Fear Factor in a special reality themed episode in 2006. Her partner was former boyfriend Mike Mizanin. The two competed against other teams of former reality contestants including Jonny Fairplay and Victoria Fuller. In the end, Cannatella and Mizanin won the show, taking home the prize money and several other prizes.
Cannatella appeared in the USA Network reality series Dr. Steve-O. She was the first cast member signed to the Country Music Television show Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Championship Wrestling. After intensive training to become a professional wrestler known as "the Red Hot Redneck," she was eliminated at the end of the sixth episode when she failed to give it her all during a hardcore match, where judges expected her to be struck and strike others with a series of foreign objects.
Other media
Cannatella has posed nude for Playboy magazine and the online Playboy Cyber Club. She also appeared in a Playboy DVD. She played for the New York Euphoria in Lingerie Bowl III.
Cannatella appears in William Hung's music video for his single "She Bangs". During the 2007 Super Bowl, she appeared in a commercial for GoDaddy.com alongside WWE Diva Candice Michelle. Later that year, she also appeared in the May 2007 issue of Stuff and on their website to promote her new television series VIP Passport, where she and several other girls fly to hot-spots around the world.

Jennifer Ann "Jenny" McCarthy (born November 1, 1972) is an American model, comedian, actress, author, and activist. She began her career as a Playboy magazine model in 1993, before launching a television and film acting career. Most recently, she has written books on parenting issues and has become an activist promoting scientifically unsupported claims that vaccines cause autism and that chelation therapy is effective against autism.
Early life
McCarthy was born in Chicago, Illinois. Her middle-class Irish Catholic family lived in the West Elsdon neighborhood of Chicago. She is the second of four daughters; her sisters are named Lynette, Joanne and Amy. Her cousin is Melissa McCarthy of Gilmore Girls fame. McCarthy's mother, Linda, was a housewife and courtroom custodian, and her father, Dan McCarthy, was a steel mill foreman. She attended St. Turibius Grade School on Chicago's South Side. As a teenager, McCarthy attended Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School (whose school sweater she donned in the pages of Playboy) and was a cheerleader at both Brother Rice High School and St. Laurence High Schools] although she has referred to herself as an "outcast" at her school. After McCarthy graduated from high school, she attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale to study nursing. She needed money to pay for college, so she decided to submit her picture to Playboy magazine to make money. She was accepted and became a model.
Career
Modeling and acting career
After getting accepted by Playboy in 1993, the magazine wanted her to pose for the October issue. McCarthy was paid $20,000 for the photo shoot. McCarthy became the Playmate of the Month and later the Playmate of the Year. In 1994, thanks to this newfound attention and popularity, McCarthy moved to Los Angeles and, for a time, hosted Hot Rocks, a Playboy TV show featuring uncensored music videos.
In 1995, MTV chose McCarthy to be the host of a new dating show called Singled Out, for which she left Hot Rocks. Her job as a host was a success, and Playboy wanted her to do more modeling. That same year, she also appeared at WrestleMania XI as a guest valet for Shawn Michaels. She left after the match with the victor, WWF Heavyweight Champion Diesel. She returned to the WWE on the August 2, 2008 edition of Saturday Night's Main Event to thank the fans for supporting Generation Rescue. In 1996, McCarthy landed a small part in the comedy The Stupids. In 1997, McCarthy launched two shows. The first one was an MTV sketch comedy show The Jenny McCarthy Show, which was sufficiently popular for NBC to sign her for an eponymous sitcom later that year, Jenny. The latter show is generally considered a disappointment and was quickly canceled. Also in 1997, she appeared on one of two covers for the September issue of Playboy (the other cover featured Pamela Anderson). McCarthy also released an autobiography: Jen-Y.
In 1998, McCarthy starred in BASEketball. In 1999, she starred in Diamonds, a movie which was directed by her husband John Mallory Asher. The next year, she appeared in the horror movie Scream 3. Since 2001, McCarthy has guest starred in such shows as Stacked, Charmed, The Drew Carey Show, Wings, Fastlane, and Just Shoot Me!.
In 2003, McCarthy appeared in Scary Movie 3 along with model and actress Pamela Anderson. In 2005, McCarthy produced, wrote, and starred in Dirty Love along with Carmen Electra. The same year, McCarthy hosted a new show on E! called Party at the Palms. The reality show, which is filmed at The Palms Hotel in Las Vegas, features hotel guests, party goers, and celebrities. In March 2006, she was given Razzie Awards for "Worst Actress", "Worst Screenplay", and "Worst Picture" for her work on Dirty Love, which also netted her then-husband, John Asher, a Razzie for "Worst Director."
McCarthy has continued her work with Playboy over the years, both as a model and in other capacities. She appeared on the cover of the magazine's January 2005 issue wearing a leopard skin bunny suit and was featured in a pictorial shot at Elvis Presley's Graceland mansion in the same issue. She was the second woman (Carmen Electra was the first) and first Playmate to become a celebrity photographer for the Playboy Cyber Club, getting behind the camera to photograph model Jennifer Madden, who is not a Playmate.
Jenny's younger sister, Amy, has also posed for Playboy. She was a Cyber Girl of the Week and the Cyber Girl of the Month for January 2005.
She is the current voice of Six in the third season of Canadian CGI Sci-Fi cartoon Tripping the Rift.
McCarthy currently stars in an online five episode series, called In The Motherhood, along with Chelsea Handler and Leah Remini. The show is on MSN and is based on being a mother where users could submit their stories to have it made into real webisodes.
She also plays the role of Agent Tanya in the video game Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3, replacing Kari Wührer.
Public persona
Though McCarthy initially rose to fame because of her sexual image, a frequent source of her celebrity derives from toilet humor. McCarthy once modeled for Candie's, a shoe company. In one magazine ad, McCarthy posed on a toilet seat, with her underwear near her ankles. Cultural scholar Collin Gifford Brooke wrote that the ad's "taboo nature" brought it attention, while noting that the ad itself helped to weaken that taboo. Another Candie's ad depicted McCarthy passing gas in a crowded elevator.
A sketch on her MTV show centered on her character, a well-coifed business woman, answering the question of "What did you have for lunch?" by seeming to force herself to vomit all over a table which she then ate on-screen. This was faked using special effects. The direct contrast of McCarthy's reputation as a sex symbol and this often grotesque humor is closely associated with her image. This image was taken to a new extreme in her film Dirty Love, which featured McCarthy's character sitting in a massive pool of her own menstrual blood.
Personal life
In 1993, McCarthy underwent breast augmentation to enhance her look as a model for Playboy. McCarthy had the implants downsized in 1998.
McCarthy dated her manager Ray Manzella for a short time in 1998. After breaking up with Manzella, McCarthy began dating actor/director John Mallory Asher. The couple became engaged in January 1999, and married on September 11 of that year. They have a son, Evan Joseph, born on May 18, 2002. Evan was diagnosed with autism. In August 2005, McCarthy and Asher filed for divorce.
In a February 2006 interview with Howard Stern, adult actress Jenna Jameson said she had two sexual encounters with McCarthy. When McCarthy visited Stern's show in April 2006, she denied having sex with Jameson, but said she "made out" with her during the two encounters. McCarthy also took a lie detector test and passed the questions regarding Jameson.
In December 2005, McCarthy began dating Jim Carrey. They did not make their relationship public until June 2006. She announced on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on April 2, 2008 that she and Carrey are now living together, but have no plans to marry, as they do not need a "piece of paper." Carrey almost made a mock proposal to McCarthy as a promotion to the film, Yes Man, in which Carrey's character has to say "yes" to everything.
Her brother-in-law is NHL hockey player Dan Hinote of the St. Louis Blues. Dan is married to her younger sister, Amy McCarthy, a former Playboy Cyber Girl. She is also an avid Chicago White Sox fan.
McCarthy is a vegan.
Activism and autism controversy
In May 2007, McCarthy announced that her son was diagnosed with autism in 2005. The disorder of McCarthy's son began with seizures and his improvement occurred after the seizures were treated; these symptoms are more consistent with Landau–Kleffner syndrome, which often is misdiagnosed as autism. McCarthy served as a spokesperson for Talk About Curing Autism (TACA) from June 2007 until October 2008. She participated in fundraisers, online chats, and other activities for the non-profit organization to help families affected by autism spectrum disorders. Her first fundraiser for TACA, Ante Up for Autism, was held on October 20, 2007, in Irvine, California. Before claiming that her son's autism was caused by vaccination, McCarthy wrote that he was a "crystal child" and she an "indigo mom".
McCarthy's book on the subject, Louder than Words: A Mother's Journey in Healing Autism was published September 17, 2007. She has stated both in her book and during her appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show that her husband was unable to deal with their son's autism, which led to their divorce. She added that her relationship with Jim Carrey has made it easier on her and that finding someone who loves her and her son is great. McCarthy also told Oprah Winfrey that her son was developing normally until he received his measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine (at 15 months of age) and claimed that they were the cause. In 2008 she appeared on a Larry King Live special dedicated to the subject, and argued that vaccines can trigger autism. No scientists were invited to speak in response.
McCarthy's claims on television that vaccines cause autism, despite being unsupported by the medical evidence, have contributed to parental concerns about a possible link; parental concerns have led to decreased immunization rates and increased incidence of measles, a highly contagious and sometimes deadly disease. McCarthy has stated at many talk shows and rallies that chelation therapy helped her son recover from autism; the underlying rationale for chelation, which is that mercury in vaccines causes autism, has been roundly rejected by scientific studies, with the National Institute of Mental Health concluding that autistic children are unlikely to receive any benefit to balance the risks of cognitive and emotional problems posed by the chelating agents used in the treatment.
